Pinapple Pocky: All traditional, all by hand. No fonts. And basically no post process at all.

Shadowtoon: I'd have to agree about the lines on page four as well. Regarding colors, seems like there are tiny white areas next to the black lineart. I am assuming you didn't erase the whites from the black linework completely. If this was Adobe Photoshop and you got rid of the lines via Local Channels, make sure to go back to adjustment>Levels and slide the black arrow on the left of the chart all the way to the right side. And since you have a good grasp of color and shadows, you should work more on using those shadows to give depth and curves to the figures. Nibbles: Did you draw this by hand or computer? Either way, if you're going to letter the sound effects, make sure they have more impact on the environment of the page; you can do that by making the sound effect more obvious, or bigger, or have a different style of font. Your lettering for dialogue is fine though.

Shadowtoon: Totally digging your toony style! I really love the lineless angled castle tower on the first page, and those expressions were awesome! I really like the color choices, too. I do have to agree with the others about the wobbly/pixelated lines, they are really distracting. Also, I wouldn't mind the wobblyness of the shading, however it looks messy. There's coloring outside of the lines, places that should have been shaded haven't been completely shaded, etc. I understand the time restraint can rush things, but Shadow Princess's ref sheet seems to have the same problem. Great stuff nonetheless, especially with the time limit :D Nibbles: unnnfff you had me at brush pen~ Lovely, lovely work! Page 3 is just teh sex. Shadow Princess looks amazing and I adore her varied shadow minions! I also really like the everybody's body language and that really helped play up their expressions as well. A couple of anatomy issues here and there, but nothing too major. I do think Ghost's anatomy is a bit too inconsistent and off. His neck on the second panel on page 3 is too long, or appears to be with the perspective going on in that panel. I agree with Puzzlething with stretching the death scene out a little more. I think that would have been a really awesome opportunity to play up some super sad feels. Also, I love the line variation you did with Shadow Princess but Little Wing really didn't get much of that... so she really doesn't pop out as much. Other than that, I hope you can figure out your scanner/software soonish! Totally looking forward to more awesome brush pen work!

Shadowtoon: I like almost everything here but what is up with your lines? There is something you're not doing right with 'em, I would recommend reassessing that. Nibbles: Beautiful art, and there's emotion to the story, too! I would sharpen the lines up, they're a big soft. Good job you two~

Shadow - Your line-work is a little wobbly, which is so weird because your forms are so simple and dynamic. And your lines suddenly get super pixelated on the last page. Still, what a great first showing! I love the way you draw characters, and the little shadow soldier totally made me laugh. Awesome stuff dude! Nibbles - I like how you establish the primary conflict almost instantly "Can Little Wing Kill?" and it feels like the whole idea of the comic is that it ends up being harder to do than she initially thought. I would've liked that difficulty to be played up a little more in the scene where she's basically executing Shadow Princess. I think it'd be stronger to see even a little of that hesitation or pain during the execution scene, rather than a literal faceless mask, and the despair after the fact. If you really wanted to maintain the idea of Little Wing trying to carry out the kill as emotionless-ly and mechanically as possible to deal with it, I think you could've just stretched out the scene a little more instead of showing hesitation/emotional-pain. That way we'd get the sense of time slowing down at an awful moment, we get to feel like Little Bird without exactly seeing those feelings on her face or in her actions. The art is amazing dude, that brushwork is just so so so so good. I totally want to try using a brush for my lines, and you're just pushing me faster towards that with such amazing stuff. That giant panel on page 3 just made me stop and marvel. You really got that background in there great too, just enough texture and lines to let us know where we are without taking away from the focus. Those little bird prints at the end were a lovely touch too.

Shadow - Later on I noticed the anatomy is a little... off. Or is it just me. Either way, work on that a little bit. Also, the last page is pixelated and I dunno if that was intentional or compression issues or whatever. Nibbles - Some of that empty space throught your comic could've been filled up. Solid stuff you two.

Shadow: Such a nice style you got going there, really hope to see more from you soon; the comic was a bit too fast-paced for my liking but it will come with practice Nibbles: Solid stuff, if somewhat blurry - hope you figure out how to work your scanner soon, your stuff is too good to be looking at through "beer-goggles" :) nice use of B&W and double-plus for the drawings of the horse, hardly the easiest animal to get down on paper

It's a brand new scanner, and I'm still getting used to it, there's a bit of a learning curve. Also, unfamiliar software, so there's almost no post process on these at all beyond shrinking them down (I think you can even see one of my hairs that must've fell on my scanner and didn't notice till just now). I'm not sure why they're blurry--I'm going to play with them this week to see what I'm doing wrong. As for medium, I used two pens for this: A Pentel Standard Brush Pen (Medium Nib), and a Platinum Preppy Fountain Pen (fine) I got from JetPens for a little over 3 bucks. Love, love, love the Pentel--It's held up even though my daughter has stolen it on multiple occasions. The Preppy could use more line width variation and darker ink--but you get what you pay for. I wish this match-up was later on. Shadow: I would love to see what you could do with more time. I love your colors, your style is rad, and you character is just swell, but as is, your comic is rushed and very unrefined, and it gets lazier as the comic progresses. It seems the planning was a little rushed, as well. Overall, I like it, though, and it has a lot to do with first things I mentioned. I also really like your dialogue bubbles. They make great use of space, have a good amount of breathing room, are creatively drawn, and flow fairly nicely. I will say your narrative box, and bubbles from people not in panel need a little work, though. I would definitely like to see you continue with something similar to this in the future. Nibs: You still make good comics. It's nicely drawn, dynamic, does a great job of leading the reader through it, and has a lot of personality. Two things stick out to me immediately. First, it's blurry. It looks like you either scanned it at a really low resolution, or you sized it down, and then sized it up after. Second, parts look oddly flat. For instance, page 4, panel 1. The face appears to be skewed some. Third, you could have upped the contrast just a little more. Not really a big deal, but sharp blacks could have helped it pop even more.

Shadow: OMG I loooove your style and I really really really want to see more from you forever! Short and cute, I really don't have anything bad to say about it. The quality seemed a little bit low, like you saved it as a small JPG, but I figure that's just part of the experience of online comics and stuff. Keep drawing! :) Nibbles: When I was creating thumbnails for this comic, I was already falling in love with your work. Are you using brushes for this? Maybe a combination of tools? Anyways, <3 <3 <3 <3 Also, beautiful horse! I don't even like horses that much, but your comic makes me want to give one a hug and maybe an apple or whatever. Story-wise, I don't quite understand her motivations for killing Shadow Princess at the end, but I loooove that last page and all it implies about your character's... uh... character. Whichever one of you wins, I can't wait to see your next round! And whoever doesn't win, I hope we get to see more from you soon! :)
