Zetsubou - I like how you're using your strokes to add texture and interest to your shadows. I really liked the setting too, and I wish you hadn't avoided drawing the background so much. Also, I only just figured this out, but if you want box city skylines to look more three dimensional while keeping them a silhouette, you can use two subtle angles at the tops instead of a flat line. This makes it look as though the building is turned at an angle to viewer, and as a result more three dimensional. Animeshen - That was a great scar, and Lexicons expressions were nice. I really liked the lighthearted interaction between the two, but after you went to that lighter place you never really got out of it, and it made Gray seem melodramatic at the end rather than getting the reader to empathize with her. It might have helped to mess with your color scheme and rendering a little bit from page to page, since you maintained the same bright art from start to finish, regardless of the mood in the page. These were both wonderfully complete comics for just 1 week, you guys should be proud!

Kura: I like this idea you've got going with the alternate universe, but I'm going to need to see it fleshed out a bit more before I'm really sold. I know that you've got all these ideas for 'Nega' characters, but I'd love to see if there's any prominent changes to the city itself. Now as for the comic, I really the like the dotted/stipple sort of effect you used for the portal and magic on pages 5 and 6. And the limited palette looks real good. Shen: Good stuff! I was wondering what kind of scar you could give a book, aside from pulling out pages, but that was pretty creative.

Either avoid it or work on it so that its executed better (like I had said, it can be done if she's hanging her head down like way a baseball cap would cover eyes if one hung their head down). I didn't know that you started in anime honestly, because your style is pretty unique. I wouldn't worry about trying to break away from your roots, as such. It's not necessarily a bad thing to look Manga/Anime, the artist Reavz embraces the style and it looks beautiful. As long as you can make the style your own, you can look like Toriyama if you wanted. Just keep drawing and practicing and it'll flesh itself out.

thank you for the critique Pyras! I don't think I even realized I overuse the "bangs to cover the eyes" trope but you might be right. Like Kura I came from an anime background and while I'm still trying to pull away from that, some things are now just ingrained into my art style ^^; I'll watch out for that. And I think it would please a great many readers to know this battle is planned to be a catalyst point from which I steer Gray's direction in another path. Its a very IMPORTANT fight because if Kura wins, I get blue tattoos and have to re-write my whole story haha! (I can do it though, I'm already getting some ideas!) and Kura, since this is such an important fight for my character I'm honored it was against you! You are one of my favorite artists on the whole site! I like to hope that people are sort of warming up to Gray around here and you are still beating me with a character you JUST introduced because you are that good! I'm so happy at different times I could be your partner and your opponent! Maybe someday we will fight again (perhaps with less on the line!)

I must confess, while both of you did exceptionally well, I am in preference to Animeshen's comic. Kura: I can see what you mean about the writing; there isn't anything WRONG per say, the story is just a bit on the bland side, and despite being an influential scar match, it still feels like nothing much has happened in the end. No complaints on the art at the moment really and as usual your action blasts, if brief, are terrific to look at. I'm going a little cold into Lexicon's story, so if there's something else I need to know about this elf and Cue and their relationship with Lexicon outside of the Intro Comic, I'm lost on that part, but it isn't too hampering. I was confused when I saw Lexicon absorb what I am assuming to be Gray's psychic powers. In my eyes, magic and psionics have always been two different power sources, and Lexicon absorbs spells. Animeshen seems to share in this distinction as well, in Gray's comic, Gray's psychic attacks are dispelled, not absorbed, by Lexicon, and in her bio it states she has few options against magic. If Lexicon is able to absorb not just magic, but various other kinds of power sources, or if your comics' world views them both as the same, that's fine, but its something you'd want to clarify because it affects how people write him in combat scenarios. It's fine if he can absorb just about anything even, as long as you have the "rules" that you place, as they were, clearly defined. One thing I would like to see you work on in the future is Lexicon's face. Like most artists who stem from a manga/anime influence (myself included when I started developing my drawing), you have a strong grasp of young women, but falter a bit with other types of people and faces, and it shows clearly in that first panel with Lexicon's face close up and large on the screen. You just need to experiment out of the comfort zone of standard manga/anime faces more and more and you'll find faces that are both comfortable for you to draw as well as appealing to look at. I would take a page (hah!) from Animeshen's rendering of Lexicon's face, even has that sense of androgyny that comes from his double voice and overall genderlessness. Animeshen: very very impressed with how clean this looks from previous works I've seen from you in the past. I love the abrupt shifts between drama and comedy. Lexicon drying himself under the blower was as funny as it was creative. And I feel like this comic accomplished alot for Gray, I would love to see more of the pieces start to fall in place for her from this point onward. I think you can only milk the "thinks she's dead" thing for so long. I think the last panel could be retooled because the look you were trying to give her backfired I believe; it comes off as comical rather than dramatic. I enjoy the bright colors but I can tell that they're masking some of your drawing weaknesses. I would avoid using the token "hair covers eyes to show detached sorrow" look in exchange for another way to convey that, like you did in the panels that just show the bottom of her face. The problem with the token convention is that now you've got hair bangs that shrink and grow based on how she's feeling, which is fine for someone who has growing/shrinking hair. If you want that the bangs cover her eyes when she lowers her head, then it's that perspective that you need work on. Great work, both of you! Looking forward to see what happens next for both characters.
