Can't add any crits that havnt already been mentioned. Ive been away from the site, so I read your last 3 installments back to back. Im really into the story and I LOVE the look of the island. The creatures and landscapes have made it really feel like an alien environment. Great stuff Heather, lookin forward to the next chapter.

Gatekeeper Muffin. I lol'd. Love your settings and landscapes, really well done! Some of the fight panels were a little confusing (sometimes too close or not enough detail to tell what's what right away) but I was able to figure them out just fine after a second look-through. Overall, excellent work. :]

Thank you! Yeah, it could have been clearer, I probably should have gone with some larger panels and maybe slowed things down a little.

I was very much taken away by your scenery the most! You definitely went all the way and it really helped build the world around them, I got a little confused when they monsters were getting mutilated but I went with it regardless (because you may have touched on it in the past and I missed out) Nice touch with the "native" dialogue too! Looking forward to the next installment.

Angie, this comic has proven to me that I did well in comparing you to Rice Boy and Bone. Your worldbuilding has me enthralled, and your art style is very clean and expressive why also being detailed where it needs to be. I think it’s a perfect balance and brings everything in your comic to life. I especially love your attention to little details like monsters just out of clear sight, or just hanging out around the island. You do an excellent job of making it feel like an actual island filled with monsters and not just a bunch of trees and brown stuff. Your use of tones throughout this comic is amazing. I didn’t notice until halfway through that you were only using black, white and gray. That tells me that you must be doing it right, because it definitely felt like there was more color in there even without using color. Your cover is beautiful. The level of detail in that landscape must have taken hours to draw, but it was worth it because of how much it drew me in right from the start. I want to see the Chuchunaa Islands, and you’ve already shown me that I won’t be disappointed. My only critiques are that the fading on the mountains looks strange with your picture of Cora and Angie behind them; it makes it look like they’re in front of it instead, which felt odd. The fading worked really well in the rest of the comic, however, so I may just be nitpicking because I’m trying to give you a really in-depth crit. :) I also am personally against using drop shadows or glows on top of artwork like you did with “Part 1,” because it disrupts the flow of seeing pure, natural artwork. The obvious Photoshop effect pulls me out of the piece and reminds me that you made this in a computer program; I prefer to see a comic page and imagine that it could have been created by some mysterious force coming out of your soul instead of a specific computer tool, so stuff like that is a personal pet peeve. I love the effect that the snow creates on what is essentially two separate scenes, making them feel like they’re part of the same scene, just from two different angles Page 2: Not much to crit here, but I just have to say that I love these little info pages you’ve put in each of your comics. The layout is beautiful, it feels professional, and it helps me catch my bearings in every comic. I never feel lost or forget who people are like I do with so many other comics or stories. I might just have to steal this idea from you ;) Page 3: Okay, so you’re fulfilling my desires here, once again. Even from what, like a mile away from the island, I can already see that there are some crazy monsters living there—huge ones, at that! The little scraggly formations at the far right of the first panel tell me that there are probably some especially dangerous parts of the island, which tells a lot about the kind of people who would choose to live there. Page 7: All I have to say is that Muffin is the best.

Page 8: Cora’s hand is kind of wonky in the bottom left panel. I don’t know if it’s because of the way you personally draw hands, the way Phinora’s hands are, or something else, but I’ve noticed some little problems here and there throughout your comics whenever you draw hands. That said, I think your anatomy in general is wonderful, especially your use of facial expressions. I’ll have more about this later. Page 10: I want to adopt that little creature in the last panel. Also, I’m so impressed with your trees. You have two different kinds, and it looks like you did some real research to make them look alive. I’m blown away by your landscapes over and over again. Page 11 was beautiful, and gave a good feeling of a long, wandering voyage. I felt a little disoriented by the layout, not sure which panel followed which, but I think you may have intended the page to feel that way. If so, I think it’s an awesome way to reflect how lost Angie must be feeling at this point on this strange island with crazy creatures all over the place. Are those cave paintings or constellations? I thought they were constellations at first, but I think the snow just threw me off or something. I don’t know why that panel looks confusing to me. Page 14: This interaction between Angie and her mother (continuing on the next several pages) shows so much about them, even without the words. You can see their personalities and feelings toward each other really come through in their expressions and body language. The double negative in Angie’s last speech bubble felt awkward; maybe something like “It’s not like we’re gonna be short on time” or something would work better. Speaking of dialogue, I love how Angie has a very clear, consistent way of speaking. I feel like I could instantly recognize her just from reading a sentence or two of something she says. That’s a huge accomplishment, I think, because it’s hard to make different characters speak in such a distinct way. Page 16: Angie’s head looks kinda flat on that last panel. I also feel like there should be more of Cora’s shoulder in the background to help me keep track of where Angie is. It looks like she’s suddenly standing in an open area or something. Page 17: I love how the panels of trees or sky make it feel like Angela and Cora don’t really like what they’re talking about. It’s like they’re both avoiding eye contact because of how uncomfortable the topic is. It also adds to the feeling of them travelling, as the scenery is changing. Page 22-25: Horrifying and brilliant. Kind of a chilling foreshadowing or discovery for Angie. I’m also really intrigued by Cora right now, because she seems to have no trouble killing these other monsters, yet seems to care for Angie quite a bit. I’m interested to see more of who she really is. It looks like both her and Angie have some messed up stuff in their lives. Page 26: Brilliant hahahah! Page 30: Dang! Just when I’m starting to trust Cora, she goes and does this. Then pages 31-32 happen, and you’ve got me begging for more! Angie, I’m impressed at your ability to capture complex characters with messed up lives, yet they still feel so relatable. Even the random Phinora who captures Angie feels like a real person. I just love everything about this comic. It’s been really fun reading Angie’s whole story from beginning to end on VOID these past few days, and I can’t wait for more! I hope this critique was helpful and not just a bunch of nitpicky jibberish or whatever. Keep it up, dude! :)

Thanks a lot for the kind words! I will see about making the pages bigger in the future. That's actually a left over from when I had a small CRT monitor, 600 pixels wide looked huge on that so it's just been habit to make them that big. But now that I have a massive widescreen monitor they're pretty damn small! I'll see about bumping them up to a bigger size on the next comic.

This is really exciting. I am intrigued by this story and I really love the creativity of it all, worldbuilding, creatures etc. I know you are really skilled with colour already but I really commend you for your use of just the grey and white for creating depth. It really works and sets a beautiful tone. The double page spread was breathtaking. A criticism, which is not of your work in any way, is perhaps to set the image to a larger scale because some of the finer details are lost resulting in a bit of confusion while reading. :)

Deadline modified as I just got a pretty tight deadline on a project so I probably won't have time to draw.

This date is an estimate. I'm fairly sure I'll be done before then as I only have about 14 pages left to draw. This is mostly to get myself to start toning everything. Then again I'm supposed to be starting on a major coloring project around then so we shall see how this goes! Hope you guys like what I have in store!
