ArrJhey, I hope you get a better scanner soon. >: I should've offered to tweak these levels or something. I loved the grittiness of this but the narrative was a little hard to follow at times. Still, rad is rad.
Doodlegal: Supercute. It was easy to follow and entertaining. Especially because we all know zombies are people too. D; *sniiiif*
rj, i loved the line work, but aside from the really stark toning, the consistency of it kinda threw me off. like the scans all seemed different. one was real bitmappy, another one the lines kinda blurred, & the real stark tones being so crisp on all but the last page. like it was all over the place. and personally, give me romero zombies, the serpent & the rainbow/straight voodoo zombies, or hell even the rage monkey 'zombies' any day. the left 4 dead species of zombies is really dumb to me.
doodle, angie brings up a good point. your b&w is a lot stronger than your color work. that's not to say give up on color, but work on it some. it is really good to have the knowledge of how to use blacks effectively though. just in the future, try to crush them more. get those strokes & lighter bits out of the solid black areas. the story was a bit predictable but still different. and as much as i love the rio bravo/zombie siege scenario, this was still fun.
RJ-Oh RJ, you know you're hot, if the character in the comic was you then you totally didn't get yourself accurate haha In all seriousness now, you started out pretty strong but started to fall apart towards the end. I think artistically this would have been significantly better without any of the toning since your lineart can carry itself just fine without it. Story wise I probably didn't get all the references, but since I've been my share of zombie flicks I was familiar enough with what was going on to follow the story.
thedoodlegirl-Oh my god dude, please continue to work with just black and white because this looked wonderful and was way better than any of your colored work I have seen. Just a little more line variation could have helped your figures pop from the background a bit better. Story wise I really enjoyed this and found it precious, I was glad you took a different approach to the whole zombie theme and I found it very entertaining.
Rabbit: I really adored how that first page looked, but after that, it sort of just got messy. I liked how you used those tones though, the patterns, it was different for me. But at one point it got me dizzy ahah Maybe you should try and tone it down a bit with those and I just think it's just a matter of keeping them neat. No biggy. God, what I REALLY loved were the char's faces. The expressions. Just the way you showed them were pretty cute :3 And the button nose, damn, i wanna eat them hahah The story was ok, though I did have some trouble figuring out what was going on...But overall, this was ok. I know you can do better though. Can't wait to see what you do next, 'cause I KNOW you'll do better next time! :D Glad to have you back~
Doodle: I really liked this. Yes i did yes i did. Your lines were clean, they were neat, they were consistant, and i loved the variation. It had a special kind of "life" to and it was really cute. Simple and straight, but there was enough to keep me interested. I had no trouble at all following it and I finished it all the way through with no pause, just like it should be! I was left satisfied too. There's nothing really to nit pick at and it was all fine to me. Hope to see more from you! C:
My vote goes to thedoodlegirl only because of the (possibly) intentional nod towards Shaun of the Dead.
Best movie ever. Sure you both had the Left 4 dead involved in some way, and Rabbit came so close to getting my vote
if only because you have a boomer (and as we all know, Boomers rawk!).
Better luck next time Rabbit.
Rabbit:
+ Real lovely textures/tones.
- If I hadn't read Darius' comment I wouldn't have understood this.
Doodle:
+ Really cute story, with funny ending.
- The scatological humour kinda took away from the cutesy charm.
