Artwise, I think this was pretty solid for the most part, although there were points I felt the characters were a bit-off model (particularly with facial expressions) and were a bit distracting to look at times... though this feels a bit hypocritical to say, considering how my own preferred art style is rather loose and simple lol Your usage of monochromic tones and spot blacks really shine here and enhance the more serious tone of the story, giving more of a shounen manga vibe (which I admittedly have a bias for lol). I dig it overall!
Storywise, I felt it was solid throughout as well. I wasn't exactly too sure what to expect how Satraxia was going to present her campaign in Void's political run but it wasn't as... violent as I was expecting. Not exactly out of character from what the stuff I've read of her, don't get me wrong. It's honestly refreshing to see her trying to take the diplomatic route instead of simply going in and seizing control by force like you'd expect from an OP galactic overlord. It was nice seeing moments of her being soft with Yama and the Dog and further reinforce her more peaceful approach she's showing through the comic. Even the moment where she could've squished Choko's head like a grape and the callback to her emphasizing she was a mother in the beginning felt like it came around full circle. Though they felt like genuine soft moments, it didn't shy away from how brutal and proud she really can be. Be grateful indeed, Choko lol
Aside from the Satraxia praise, I loved seeing her buffoon children, especially Saiko ≧◉◡◉≦ They are such a fun and dynamic duo. The Dairyu and Satraxia was certainly interesting and I can see her point in calling out Dairyu's callousness in regards to the people of Void and the world as a whole as an outsider to Earth's politics. It's almost insane how much cameos you were trying to fit in your crowds and I applaud the effort! I was kinda curious what was going on and how/why Satraxia was warranting so much attention. This is a bit of a nitpick since I don't think it deters away from the story quality too much but I'm still left wondering lol another nitpick I had was your word bubbles. There were some dialogue I think could've benefitted from into separate word bubbles to help with the read flow a little but as with the other nitpick, it didn't deter from the quality a lot.
Overall, a fine read! This makes me more excited to read more future Satraxia stuff, hehe.
Everybody did an absolutely incredible job on this! You should all be proud of yourselves!
Tgood: GOD what an entry! This comic creates such a wonderful build of tension, and the ending with Regi sent chills down my spine. The scene with Yamato being asked if Choko was worth their blessing was an incredibly cool moment, too! Also, the storm battle looks absolutely stellar! I wonder what interaction Maneki-Neko and A Dog had, too...
However, my absolute favorite thing about your entry is the interesting implications for Voids future - a total police state run by a corrupt officer that doesn't even think robots should have rights. It's a shakeup that fills me with dread (in a positive way, of course).
Snowy: Whatever has got you down or stressed, I hope things get better for you soon!
SirJellyRaptor: Funniest possible tonal whiplash considering I read Tgood's entry right before it, lmao. I know that you said you weren't used to doing comedy before on the Discord iirc, but I honestly had NO idea about that before you mentioned it. This is absolutely hysterical! There were so many gags that stuck out to me - the Sovereign Greece mixup, Kurdis' breakdown, but my absolute favorite HAS to be Yamato carrying Keito out.
I first read this comic right after it came out. It was 1 in the morning. I am surprised I didn't get any noise complaints about how hard I laughed.
(And also thank you for the Felix cameo!! He looks so good :D)
Selevan: Honestly, I've pushed things up until the last possible moment so often that I'd feel a bit hypocritical if I criticized you for it. I'm honestly kinda impressed you managed to pump out this amount of detail in such a short amount of time!
I also really enjoy what direction you took with TL Bot here. Him asking why they were just talking instead of truly doing something was honestly a pretty cool scene!
Footini: Love the balance between seriousness and humor! The discussion of Dairyu being worshiped across multiple planets brought up a lot of interesting implications, and the reveal of the disguises was incredibly funny. The bodyguard begging them to live was probably my favorite gag, lol.
Regi trying to save Gwen and Choko thinking apologizing to Ito when she thought she was gonna die were some incredibly powerful scenes, too! Overall, great work (and thanks for the cameos)!
Gregly: There's a ton of fascinating artistic decisions right off the bat! Having Choko be the main POV and making it all set in a medieval fantasy AU were super interesting.
On one hand, I'm not too sure how to feel about this comic not being set in Void proper - this is one of the few events that affects most other canons, after all. But on the other hand, it's both such an interesting take and I can't help but admire the fact that you had a vision for your comic and pursued it wholeheartedly. I know that I get a bit nervous when I think I'm bending pre-established characterization or worldbuilding too much, so comics like these help remind me that they're not supposed to be taken as hard rules!
Incredible work on the characterization and worldbuilding! Congrats on managing to get this all out with full colors, too :D
Everyone did so well! It was super close but my favorite was Gregly's! A full color entry is nothing to sneeze at and I especially liked the weed joke at the beginning lmao. Tbh the AU setting didn't bother me at all I thought you implemented everyone's characters well. Tgood's had nice pacing and really cool art on some pages, Jelly's was the funniest by far, Selevan's had good inks and some good angles and Footini's was pretty gripping throughout and very polished. Good job everyone! No matter who wins we'll have one interesting mayor that's for sure!
Great effort on everything- so many pages done!
Looking forward to what happens next
TGood: Your round was tragic and tense. I had to put it down multiple times because of how stressful it was, and that's a compliment. Choko cuts a truly despicable but still deeply human figure, and all of the terrible things she does (Poor Regi) feel in keeping with her twisted perspective and desire to keep the people she loves safe at all costs.
And that fight scene with Satraxia was just beautiful
Snowy: I'm sorry you couldn't make a comic. I know if you could have, it would've been amazing.
SirJellyRaptor: An absolute laugh riot. Everything about this round was hilarious, and your art is amazing even in sketch form.
Selevan: I'm sorry you weren't able to make something more substantial. As it stands, it's a fun little thing, but doesn't quite match the competition.
Footini: Satraxia has my vote. You combined the intense drama of TGood's round with some of the comedy of Jelly's for a cohesively strong package. Satraxia's conversation with Dairyu and the lead up to it made her cut a charismatic and terrifying figure. I especially like the little metaphorical moments: Satraxia petting the dog as a representation of her promise to protect the vulnerable, and her biting into the fruit to represent both the fruits of her empire to be shared with Void, and her savoring this conquest.
Back to her and Dairyu, because that was the strong point of an already strong round: Her breaking in to meet Yamato was both tense and funny, and the reveal of her just playing with the kid was a silly breaking of the tension, until her true purpose was revealed, casting everything in a new light. And her debate, revealing that Dairyu is revered across the cosmos, and her criticism of her noninterference really, again, helped her cut a dramatic figure.
Gregly: It's astonishing the similarities between your and TGood's rounds, both have Choko as the viewpoint character, and both cast their heroes as truly despicable, a new look for old Gwen. The AU was fascinating, and it was a well told story. Poor Regi again.
These were amazing, everyone! Fantastic turn-out, I enjoyed all of these!
Tgood- amazing comic, i like the visuals, especially the way satraxia moves and dairyu's godform skimming on the bottom of the storm. you did a great job faking me out with 'regi' shooting at protestors only to reveal that it's some new police bots-- definitely gave me that sinking feeling in my chest! I'd love to hear what you have planned with him all dissembled in the basement! you did a great job adding cameos as well, they weren't just space fillers but they helped to inform the story and push the plot as well. awesome work!
Snowy- sorry you couldn't make a comic, i hope you're doing ok!
SirJellyRaptor- your comic was a lot of fun and silly! I love the way you used gwen and had her say what we've all been thinkin. I'm jealous of your lightning fx on p10, i drew a lot of lightning in mine but it didn't look that good! seeing yamato and A Dog playing together was so cute too!
Selevan- the environments you drew are really cool and detailed! Reading again i see that tlbot attaches a translation chip onto himself which i missed the first time. but i do agree it's a little hard to tell who's talking on page six. I love all the detail in the big auditorium panel. good work!
Footini- I like the long chat between Satraxia and Dairyu-- it didn't seem full of hate to me but like Satraxia was calling her bluff in a way, and I like the suggestion that there have been many worlds that have worshipped Dairyu through history-- it connects the two of them to something more vast than we see on Void. I like how Sizar is scared of an old lady and a child twice, that made me laugh. The sequence of them smashing up all the tanks effortlessly was very cool and the ending with the peach is sexy and sinister-- perfect for Satraxia! Well done!
Me- If I ever did an election comic I wanted for it to be some kind of AU because of Heathen's battle-royale style election from several years ago. I just gotta spend a liiiittle more time writing, but i was getting antsy and wanted to start drawing. When I read this I can feel the shift on page 37 when I just scramble toward an ending. (Just disintegrating Satraxia is a huge copout.) I think there was a way to wrap this up with a nice pretty bow that I couldn't quite figure out-- but I'm still really happy with what I did!
I really enjoyed your story Footini! It's cool seeing you improve in both art and writting. I got some chuckles out of this one.
My life’s been pretty busy lately, so I won’t be able to comment on every comic, but I just wanted to say I’m amazed at how fun, and well executed these comics were. I honestly don’t know how some of you managed to keep the quality in comics with 40+ pages! You all killed it, and have all my respect and admiration.
Great job, everyone!
This was an interesting take at this election, like most folks, we all probably assumed Satraxia would just come in all smashing and space invader-like and force herself as the new queen by brutal force, and while her kids did do a lot of the smashing here, she for the most part brought up reasons and talking points for her actions, she debated and use her words rather than her fists to do the action, hell she quickly got the dog vote (and who doesn't like dogs ), I enjoyed this comic much like all the ones this election season, its gonna be a hard fought race but I for one, can't wait to see the results, good luck footini and great job on this comic.
Satraxia read the Bible and really asked the question: "Man of Perdition? Why can't it be a Woman of Perdition? And why can't I be that woman????" Lmfao
this was very well done and I always enjoy your humorous writing. Tl bot spying and being into satraxia was my favorite gag, also I like the setting of the biome in the tower, you did a great job with the backgrounds. Satraxia and her conquering of galaxies feels a little too clean; either there needs to be an up on the brutality of her violence or an increase on the absurdity of her just having all the solutions, thinking she could just destroy tanks by slamming them with fruit trees than planting them in, or showing her ruthlessly killing people then paying the families expenses for the funeral. I want you to know this is great work, it's just a tough battle that requires splitting hairs to make decisions. be proud of what you did.
So ready to read these soon! Gonna have to start early so I can get through them all in time to vote
