Kaiju Crash: Heisei : Round 1
Still new to this whole kaiju thing. I hope I'm doing well enough. Both kaijus characters are gentle in nature.

Snager: You know I'm always down to look at more of your silly linework :] I loved watching the Nomad and Behemoth trying to help the two of them out the best they can (and Nomad getting pushed around by Make-a-Mess during it, lol).
Thewkhangkbon: I love your characters' dynamic with each other and how the Winged Behemoth is slowly branching out to feelings of joy. Them realizing that they were wrong about the Messusalems and trying their best to apologize was incredibly sweet to see!
@ snager
Messusalem was one of the standouts of the roster for me design-side, with shades of Gerald Scarfe and Nicolas Marlet, and the first few pages of this comic gave earnest Chuck Jones vibes. Having such a strong design code naturally lends itself to a monster that looks great to watch in action and it's one of the best things about this comic.
I think reaching such highs with this creature, thus, is causing other elements of the comic to struggle when placed side by side. The Winged Behemoth's master is not rendered with as much precision, for example, and what results is a sort of lack of visual cohesion among all the cast members. I would have liked to see you translate these guest characters further into your style, even if it means warping them a little, to maintain a constant visual vibrance from start to finish
@ thewkhankbon
Big congratulations for one of the most complete-looking entries of Round 1! You have a lot nailed down, from good use of coloring to a strong action sense and decent wording and ballooning (I think you should go a little further with the Rumble SFX though), and this level of speed of completion is one of the most important skills for comics if you want to be prolific.
I have to address the one major flaw in your workflow though: The copy-pasting of models, most apparent with the herd of Messusalem. For pages 6-7, 10, and 18, it's clear that you drew one Messusalem model that you pasted about with slight turns at the joints but not enough differentiation to not notice (the biggest tell being the identical heads). As a result these moments have life sapped out of them from an otherwise lively comic. In the future you will want to pursue other time-saving methods to keep your speed up, or practice to not need these kinds of methods at all
I love the color pallete and compostions in this, how behomth and nomad contrasting the icey place was great. I'm curious about nomads eyes. the constant eye shadow of them feels like a build up to a grander reveal of the eyes, I wanna see those peepers.
Those backgrounds are very nice. I felt like I needed to put on a jacket after being surrounded by so much ice and snow! I can tell you're experienced with making the most of limited time by taking shortcuts intelligently and focusing more energy on key moments, which is an excellent skill to have as a comic maker! I really enjoy your style and am looking forward to future comics!
Crazy stuff, colored and all. I really like your style, and lighting.
You did this in two weeks??? Your colors and rendering are phenomenal, especially for the amount of pages you had. The action had a lot of impact with all the color and speed lines. This was a really heartwarming story; I loved the subversion of the subterranean monsters simply acting in self-defense and the situation being resolved peacefully; I'm glad that idea is being explored more in kaiju media these days.
Oh, a double duel! This'll be a fun pair of comics to end on!
I really love your style, and the way you created the ice landscape is gorgeous! The action is also drawn in a really aesthetic way, nice job!
I cannot believe you pulled this off in 2 weeks. Holy shit! Phenomenal job!
great lines and colors, it feels so clean and polished! All your characters are so cool and mysterious, I wish to see more about them revealed!!
Both comics were very entertaining to read and look at! Snager's comic reminded me a lot of the usual Sunday morning cartoon, specifically Ren and Stimpy, which left me smiling throughout the entire thing. I much enjoyed those panels of the Messusalem eating out of the trunk.
Thewkhang K'Bon's had stellar artwork, making everything gorgeous and pleasing to look at. I enjoyed how crazy good the action looked and I very much enjoyed the dialogue.
Great job to the two of you!
This didn't feel like a comic it felt like a classic shonen anime, the way you pace the panels with each action it was like I was watching an animation, the backgrounds worked nicely with the segmented planes and cel shaded shapes, everything felt natural and part of the whole scene.
You were a bit shy on your dark colors though, I feel like you didn't pushed the shadows very far, and thus make the images like it lack a bit of dept, just a little, it did gave the feeling of something sweet and calm, which even in the parts where there was some action, it still was too safe in the light tones.
But still this is an amazing piece, specially for the amount of pages you managed to finish and with the amount of care you put, good job!
This is a crazy amount of polish and quantity for a two week deadline, the amount of effort is commendable! I don't really have much to say other than it's an impressive entry and good work
The colors blew me away, it's impressive how you've made this in two weeks. Good job!
disco a-go-go
HYPE!!! good luck to you both!!
