Snager: You know I'm always down to look at more of your silly linework :] I loved watching the Nomad and Behemoth trying to help the two of them out the best they can (and Nomad getting pushed around by Make-a-Mess during it, lol).

Thewkhangkbon: I love your characters' dynamic with each other and how the Winged Behemoth is slowly branching out to feelings of joy. Them realizing that they were wrong about the Messusalems and trying their best to apologize was incredibly sweet to see!

@ snager

Messusalem was one of the standouts of the roster for me design-side, with shades of Gerald Scarfe and Nicolas Marlet, and the first few pages of this comic gave earnest Chuck Jones vibes. Having such a strong design code naturally lends itself to a monster that looks great to watch in action and it's one of the best things about this comic.

I think reaching such highs with this creature, thus, is causing other elements of the comic to struggle when placed side by side. The Winged Behemoth's master is not rendered with as much precision, for example, and what results is a sort of lack of visual cohesion among all the cast members. I would have liked to see you translate these guest characters further into your style, even if it means warping them a little, to maintain a constant visual vibrance from start to finish

@ thewkhankbon

Big congratulations for one of the most complete-looking entries of Round 1! You have a lot nailed down, from good use of coloring to a strong action sense and decent wording and ballooning (I think you should go a little further with the Rumble SFX though), and this level of speed of completion is one of the most important skills for comics if you want to be prolific.

I have to address the one major flaw in your workflow though: The copy-pasting of models, most apparent with the herd of Messusalem. For pages 6-7, 10, and 18, it's clear that you drew one Messusalem model that you pasted about with slight turns at the joints but not enough differentiation to not notice (the biggest tell being the identical heads). As a result these moments have life sapped out of them from an otherwise lively comic. In the future you will want to pursue other time-saving methods to keep your speed up, or practice to not need these kinds of methods at all

Having not seen much of your art for the past couple years it's been such a treat reading this comic and how your art has evolved. your inks are amazing and the expressions you give the characters is hilarious, this was such a fun cute interaction.

Cute comic! I love how expressive your characters are, and as a pet owner I heavily relate to having to save my child from their own lack of brain cells 😂 I'm glad everything turned out all right, and the punch line at the end was a perfect way to finish off the comic!

This was such a sweet story. The interactions between all the characters really shine here. I love your style; the expressions are so fun, and I feel like I could learn a thing or two from you on how to really exaggerate them. Loved the light tone, easily one of my favorites in the round.

Cute comic, though there is some confusion in panels for me and the high increase of detail of some of the panels seems out of place. Very wholesome story tho, nice work!

great read, i like how much personality you were able to give your characters without dialogue. The whole thing is just so fun and wholesome. Your depiction of bug society being decimated in the first page was a creative standout to me!

Both comics were very entertaining to read and look at! Snager's comic reminded me a lot of the usual Sunday morning cartoon, specifically Ren and Stimpy, which left me smiling throughout the entire thing. I much enjoyed those panels of the Messusalem eating out of the trunk.

Thewkhang K'Bon's had stellar artwork, making everything gorgeous and pleasing to look at. I enjoyed how crazy good the action looked and I very much enjoyed the dialogue.

Great job to the two of you!

I love the backgrounds here, with just a few lines you were able to capture the whole scene, empty spaces on the paneling makes it focus on the things that are important, very efficient. the gestures are also a highlight, very expressive.

I guess my only critique is in page 6, that first panel that had a lot of detail felt a bit out of plase considering how the rest of the comic is drawn, not saying it looks bad, just breaks up the pace, unlike page 9 which had the same impact but there it kinda works cause of the whole mystical magical thing going on, so a shift in style makes sense there.

Overall is a funny and cute comic, it has some nice beats and moments.

This was a very cute comic! There's a surpris8ng amount of those in this giant monster tournament, I'm noticing. My only real nitpick is some areas, especially near the beginning, need some more contrast. This could be done with some slight gray washes, just to belp break up the elements of the composition. Idk how much time you had for something like that but it's a relatively minor criticism. Otherwise this comic is full of the explosive personality that I've come to expect from your work

I personally enjoyed the fun art style this had, like cartoony, expressive, and fantastic job on the POV and detailing for the trees and rocks. This was a fun read!
