Thanks, guys, for the kind words! I'm glad y'all like what I submitted, even incomplete as it is. I was worried without the dialogue it might get hard to follow so I'm really glad the story even partially comes across!
TheCydork: I also loved how the ending referenced the beginning with the whole “messing with forces people don’t understand.”
Yes! I pushed the time limit to get this line in at the end, I love the symmetry it gives the script and it ties into the theme I would have been following if I were to have made it further into the tournament. I wanted to work with a theme of sort of karmic retribution, that whatever ended up happening to my opponents was ultimately, in some sense self inflicted or something they had coming to them for some reason or another.
snager: Jelly: You were asking me for help in the discord and I feel bad if what I was feeding you just made things worse. you got a little ambitious with just a 2 weeker. //maybe you were doing too much back-and-forth trying to settle on one thing or another? I think you can treat this as a learning experience. if you know you're going to become your own worse critic, factor in how much time you're going to spend arguing with yourself when you chose a story to work on. ;_;
You didn't make things worse, I think there was just a communication failure on what exactly I was asking for help with. I just wanted a way to visually distinguish the Tam copy from actual Tam so that the plot wouldn't get confusing with the deception, since I had originally intended this to be colored and that would have been the main differentiator. From our conversation I decided that whatever I did, had to be clearly shown to be a conscious choice and not me cutting corners for time, like I did go with the lack of pupils, and shows that this was intentional by making sure everyone else had them, especially the real Tam. You also suggested a lack of shadow, which I did end up using on page 4, though it's subtle. It's also why I added the panel of Tam reintegrating the copy, just to really hammer it home. With that out of the way, there was no conflict on my end with trying to decide on a story or style. Once I had the idea for the plot down, that was it. Once it became clear that I wasn't gonna get to coloring I went full in with the pencils. There was no back and forth or arguing with myself about the story, it was just a matter of trying to get it all done in time. That said, this comic HAS been a major learning experience for me, I got a lot of introspection into how my own process works, and what kinds of changes I need to make in the future to help my process better, so I hope to implement some of my ideas soon.
Gregly: Reading through again I noticed that Tam is projecting a double on the roof who is watching Senki which I didn't notice the first time, which is a cool detail!
I'm really glad you noticed that! My intention was actually that that's Tam, herself, on the roof with him but it could just as easily be another double. Either way she has the drop on him >:) Also, once again, thanks for the battle! Your comic is an absolute delight to read and it still gets a laugh out of me every time! I wouldn't fret too much about the hand mismatch, after my several rereads I never even noticed ^^; And absolutely feel free to keep the scar if you want! And if Senki lives through this tournament then maybe these two will run into each other again down the line, and settle some of this newfound beef.

I'm embarassed that Senki bites off Tam's right hand and then her left hand is missing-- my bad! Jelly, this comic looks great even at the sketchy stage! You made Senki look so much cooler than I could have, I love how he holds the big blaster with one big arm and one little arm. Tam looks so cool on panel 1 page 7. And the scar is so cool I almost wanna keep it anyway! Reading through again I noticed that Tam is projecting a double on the roof who is watching Senki which I didn't notice the first time, which is a cool detail!

Jelly: Hot DAMN even though this is mostly just sketches, i t's still so nice to look at. Your sketches are so solid and clear that I wasn't ever confused as to what was going on. seriously give me your sketching abilities these look so nice. I also super love the scar you gave at the end, it's super creative and also super cool. I think this fight would've been cool to have seen in full color considering what you could've done with the amulet and whatnot, but honestly it's hard to complain too much cuz, again, the pencils be really gorgeous. Obviously there's some dialogue missing and it would've been neat to have at least had full dialogue, but at least you managed to have dialogue in the most important places where the action couldn't necessarily convey what was going on. Gregly: The most prominent word that comes to mind when reading this is *fun*. This is just a fun comic, with a fun premise and fun expressions and action. I love that this took place in a fast food restaurant, and imo all the jokes landed really well. I also think you set the tone up well so the sudden shift to violence didn't feel out of place; it's just good silly fun. I think the only place where I feel like there could've been more done is with the scar itself--the sudden shift from cartoony violence to biting off an entire hand and then eating it felt super jarring, and I can't help but think there might've been more interesting scars to have done that would have been more in line with the overall tone of the comic.

Jelly: You were asking me for help in the discord and I feel bad if what I was feeding you just made things worse. you got a little ambitious with just a 2 weeker. I think you could have committed to having that tight sketchy style at the top of page 2 and just rolled and rolled until a story came out, but maybe you were doing too much back-and-forth trying to settle on one thing or another? I think you can treat this as a learning experience. if you know you're going to become your own worse critic, factor in how much time you're going to spend arguing with yourself when you chose a story to work on. ;_; but regardless, your drawings are crunchy enough with a smooth after-taste to still make this a fun and exciting sci fi read. I love your characterization here, Gregly! leave it to a cartoonist to simplfy yet pump up any character! Tam feels like if an animaniac and a Lion King hyena got lost at Taco Bell for a million years, fused into one person, then came back to earth to menace the teenage mutant ninja turtles. you just had them roll up buck ass naked and start making demands, which was pleasantly jarring after reading Jelly's version of them as 'an alien who DOES wear clothes, actually.' we then get to watch Senki fight a technicolor baboon for 5 minutes, which is just a treat, here. the way you establish everything is so professional, too. how you show Tam's powers working is so creative. you really went for the killing blow with all those bright colors on such a complicated character design, too. and also how you establish what kind of eatery Burgermiester is. the icecrememe machine being broken is explained twice, which is the right amount of times. god. I want some curly fries so bad, now. Can't wait to fight you some day, Greg >:)

Jelly - I honestly love this sketchy shaded style! I think if you cleaned up some of the areas with construction lines, you could’ve passed this off as complete/intentional. The action was really fluid and the characters have such volume with the shading. I also loved how the ending referenced the beginning with the whole “messing with forces people don’t understand.” Gregly - Fun and chaotic! Love Pam’s expressions and the wacky poses. My one crit is that there isn’t much motion when Senki punches her (page 6, panel 3). Given how animated Pam has been, I think you could’ve distorted her body more, maybe made her eyes bulge to show the impact. But it’s just a small detail, overall great comic!

These were both fun. Jelly: Even with the incomplete pencils this was fun, dare I say, cool even. The little blast of colours at the end made it cooler because of the unintended minimalism. The scar is pretty fun because of this. I'm grateful with what we got, even if a world where a polished version of this comic existed would of been a feast for the eyes. Gregly: I like the overall tone of the comic and how zany it is. Madcap comedy shenanigans are your greatest strength Gregly. I didn't consider Senki to be super reckless so I think him damaging the two cars while parking and that never being addressed even in like a throwaway gag didn't super resonate with me. Especially since at the end he shows himself to be relatively responsible and not self-entitled by declining a free meal as a reward and this made me think that you could have potentially had Tam and Senki set up as two reflections of each other where their recklessness and differing levels of mindfulness and selfish vs selfless impulses would clash, though I feel like I'm asking for too much all at once by getting so weirdly excited over the possibilities. Tams rampant selfish behaviour in the whole comic was very fun to see, especially with the duplicates gag and wanting to speak to the manager.

Both of these were great for different reasons. Sirjellyraptor, the movement of the action scenes were so fluid, and as Fluff has already mentioned, your pencil work is really nice too! Left me in awe of how pretty it looked, even if unfinished. I also loved the bits of humor sprinkled in, like the aw beans line. And the scar was so colorful and well done! As for Gregly's comic, I love the overall tone of it. A burger restaurant is not the setting I expected for a scar match, but it worked perfectly for the characters. Speaking of the characters I loved how expressive they were on each panel, Tam's overall attitude, and Senki finding a meal. Did not expect that, but it left me laughing!

First I want to apologize for how incomplete my entry is. Im not so bothered by the incomplete visuals, they get you where you need to go, but I had a lot of technical difficulties getting the text in, which ate up most of the time I had set aside for it. I got in what was vital but the comic does feel pretty empty and muddled without the rest. With that out of the way, I absolutely love this comic, Gregly, it had me laughing the whole time and you definitely make better use of my own characters abilities better than I do. You said in the discord that your concept was pretty simple but it works here. The characters are well used and easy to understand. It gets good marks from me, for sure, and it was a pleasure doing battle with you
