KUBO- You came in with a concept, a plan and a tried and true holiday tradition that you turned on its head. Totally surprised me in a great way. Who knew Wendigo and Amelia would get along so famously while breaking bread? Well, human meat bread XD This was grisly and festive which seems impossible to do and shouldn't fit, but you made me a believer. The fact the rhyme and story is this polished for just a week shows what manner of heavyweight voider we're dealing with here. Great show. INKY- If there's anyone I'd wager would be an equal to Kubo in way of quality output, it would be you and you did not disappoint. Your inks are so rich. Features and figures so highly detailed. STILL shocked this is the caliber of quality and volume for a weeks worth of work! I'll admit the flow, direction and general story wasn't as streamlined and I had a bit of a time following. It's clear your strength is in illustrative work and figures, so I was definitely wanting for background and establishing environment. That said, Wendigo never looked better- that demon form is killer (also way to be bold and be open to critiques! =0 RESPECT)

Kubo: This is such a nice polished short story. This isn't so much a crit for this story but the overarching story of wendigo, but all the homunculus in this look interchangeable. When you have time for future longer stories with him i would like to see more conflict between the different homunculus pulling wendigo in different direction and goals. If he just ate santa, I want to see that homunculus acting very different from the others and make wendigo have conflicting goals and having to resolve that to take control of the homunculus. But that's for future comics and this is a cute holiday short comic. Inky: Even your rushed inks are art goals, they look amazing and this is a great start to shaking off comic rust. For future comics one thing that may help is starting with a mid gray canvas as opposed to this white one. Having everything start off with the midtone gray looks alot better than starting with all white. This also will allow you to quickly put in the darkest areas as well as give some white highlight areas as opposed to most of the midtone being white making it much harder to put highlights in. Great job and hype to see more stuff from you.

Kubo: Hot damn this is really impressive for just a week!! I loved the whole setup and as I mentioned on another comic, custom retellings of classic poems/songs is one of my favorite things, hehe. There were a few places where I noticed the rhymes/syllables didn't quiiiite work out, but tbh I give that a pass because poetry is HARD. Honestly I don't really have much in the way of crits, though this was a simple little interaction it worked really well and was really fun in a twisted way, and the art is on point! also I now desperately need to see what SantaWendigo looks like lmaoooooo Inky: Your inks are so good looking omgggg. give me your inking skillz plz. Your backgrounds and creature designs are also real good and very fun to look at!! I won't go too much into it cuz you asked, but the one thing that stood out to me was that everything felt a bit... crowded. I think you could've benefited from a bit thicker panel borders, or some more gutter space between panels, because as-is it's occasionally hard to decipher what's going on because everything's so close together. Which is a shame because the art's so good I WANT to be able to focus on everything! I'll admit the story isn't what I was expecting, but Emmelia getting so excited about 'Sandy Clawz' was weirdly adorable, haha.

Be sure to put a plate of guts out for Wendigo on Christmas night. These are both great especially with a one week draw time. And despite needing to rush your half Inky your inks are still strong and detailed enough to carry the art on their own. Living up to your namesake.

You're both hands down two of my favorite artists on the site and I am so glad to see you battle. Such quality output from both sides. Kubo, you perfectly captured the Christmas spirit in such a unique way that only Wendigo and Frank/Emmelia can deliver. Art and script/poem/song??? are on point. It's perfect! Inky, gosh even with a sketch/inks your attention to detail and absolutely gorgeous linework shine as it is. When I joined the site, your artwork was the first thing that caught my eye. I am so ecstatic to see you make another Void comic after two long years. I really hope to see more from you. Thanks for bringing us this battle. Happy Holidays.

Kubo, my GAWD your comic was so friggin' amazing! From the effortlessly flowing, festive mood to the well-timed rhymes, I am in awe! Getting to do even such a little battle with you on some characters I am DYING to write more of together, was an absolute honor and thank you for accepting me on it! The fact it wound up on a sweet sharing Christmas theme had my little black heart all a'flutter! Thank you again, and AWESOME JOB! I'm feeling a little better about mine now, just needed to wash off that general rushed stress. I had a lot of ideas I ultimately had to toss and cut out, and really wanted to go back and do a ton of editing and grayscaling, but my speed continues to be a big issue. The text bubbles were indeed rushed, in addition to the font - only after deciding I liked the general font, did I realize how wonky it's punctuation placement was. I did learn a lot however, including some positive notes in that I can in fact pull off some convincing drawing even when it's rushed - that's certainly boosted my confidence in regards to speed. Thanks everyone for reading, this was my first comic in I think 2yrs (last being Ozias VS Sister Kiteria), and it has in fact excited me to do more in the very near future!

Kubo - Nooo Santa!! In all seriousness though, loved the messed up play on a visit from St. Nicholas! I didn’t realise the battle would actually be Christmas themed, so I enjoyed seeing the two totally different vibes juxtaposed here. I like the screen tone you used and the way you depicted Emmelia - she really seems like a creature rather than human, especially in panels 2 and 3 on page 2. Yeah, just a fun (?) little comic :) My only gripe would be that Frank’s lair looks oddly bare and nondescript. The backgrounds in page 2 are mostly bare concrete, plus the wooden ceiling and old-fashioned boiler seem to clash with Frank’s metal torture chamber sensibilities. Still, I realise this battle was only a week long and it was otherwise very polished! Inky - Don’t be so hard on yourself, from an artistic standpoint it looks great. Emmelia’s expressions are really good here, I especially like page 1 panel 6 (kinda brings to mind a vampire bat) and page 2 panel 3 (weirdly cute?). The design of the creature Wendigo chases and later semi-transforms into is really cool as well. As per your request I won’t go into things too deeply, but I thought I should comment on an issue here that’s pretty easy to fix - speech bubbles covering details or cramping panels. A piece of advice that really helped me with this is to treat the bubbles as physical objects in the composition, allowing space for them during the thumbnail/sketch phase.

Oh, Inky, I love this comic! It was so much fun! For a three pager it is jam-packed. I really love your layout and the Emmelia panels were so great. I love your expressions and it really give her a lot of character. I think my only critique is to myself: I never should have limited this to a three page comic! I want more! The chaos these three could wreak would be sublime. This better not be the only time they interact.

I failed in so many ways, but I'm happy to at least have submitted something and not entirely disappointed my wonderful opponent. It's also not as brutal as I had originally planned. PLEASE BE GENTLE WITH CRITIQUE. I am aware of many issues and super upset about it. Thank you for understanding. T_T

Oh uh speaking of blood... THERE WILL VERY LIKELY BE BLOOD. AND GORE. AND SEXUAL THEMES. AND MOST CERTAINLY VIOLENCE. Please use your best judgment before reading - my comic in particular, probably.
