This comic is simply amazing. This art is phenomenal and you two make a great pair. In terms of story it was clear Grays role was meant for another character. Gray is not the type to just quietly smirk and disappear. all that was really needed was just a quick one liner from Gray to taunt Gray Owl and I would feel this would be fine. This is a good set up for future comics and I'm fine with there being no immediate pay-off from the interaction with Gray. I look forward to future collabs since you two make such a powerhouse team.
Holy color palettes Batman! Kozi p much summed it up, but yeah, way to work color to give the mood plenty of atmosphere! I really liked seeing this glimpse of personal life of Gray Owl and seeing there’s not much of a separation when the mask is on or off. Page 6 is definitely my fave - the composition, the intensity of the glare and sfx, the colors - everything meshed so perfectly!
I agree with everyone about Gray’s appareance. Wish we could have gotten a liiiiitle more interaction before she faded away because she literally had nothing to do but to be there and leave.
This was a really great collab combo and I hope we see more from you guys!
only a few nitpicks from me, feel free to ignore:
i realize the background people are background, but if you're going to give them detail like that, try not to be so rushed about the lines? I think that goes for several other things, this comic could look a lot more polished if more detail was given. The inside tree is just mostly a color block with lights and sometimes hatching, but outside the trees have bark patterning? its certainly moody, and i do like that. I'm also assuming you guys did this on short time, but overall I really like it. In fact, the contrast here is really good for a lot of it, that I was able to finally figure out how Shen's coloring IS so successful, so I learned a thing! Thank you!
I also think you two make a good team overall. Pyras has this clean technical look most of the time, and Shen has a lot of movement in her stuff, so this really has the best of both worlds. I see nice proportions and good action overall (page 4 there's something weird about that guy's shoulder in the first panel? maybe im misreading it.)
I'd actually like to see more teamups from y'all. Please keep the good stuff coming!
Oh I forgot about the credits stuff (we had run through it on discord)
Pyras: Pencils & Layouts, some color direction & random edits
Shen: Lines, colors, sound and visual effects
This script was originally featuring a different character who speaks with Revu at the winter party and follows him and witnesses the murder and they interact more at the last 3 pages, so originally 50% of the pagetime was with that character. I wasn't able to get that collab off the ground, but the story I felt was really important for Revu's overall portrait and I wanted to complete it somehow, and Shen came in offering to help fill it in; this comic plants seeds for further interaction with both Lily and Gray in the future as well
Kozi pretty much hit all the notes. Aside from a lackluster showing from Gray, she looked damn good anyway. I’m guessing Shen inked and colored this? Great work, guys.
This reminds me, something I’d like to see more of, especially with collabs, is a cover or credits page, so we see who did what.
You sneaky so and so''s making secret collabs!
These colors you guys, LOVE. To go from the warmth of the holiday party to the cool frigid chill of the exterior scenes is such a visually stunning mood changer. Bringing it to such a stark chill only to give it a little heat by the 6th page with our graphic dispatch of mister so and so was just magnificent. SPEAKING OF THE 6TH PAGE. Wow. Woooow that is how you do sequential action. Owls face as his blackmailer is snuffed juuust out of panel really gave me chills! I love this guy, more so out of costume. The opportunities to emote really add weight to the action he's usually in. I want more Gray Owl comics now.
This definitely felt like a Gray Owl comic and Gray showed up. When she arrived, my breath caught and I was wondering what the interaction would be. Was she writing something in the blood? Would she say something? Do something? Her apparition got me going, but the payoff kinda fell flat for me. Especially after such an explosive interaction with an NPC. Its odd Gray didn't get greater or even equal treatment when it came to interest.
The owl has one of the strongest grips in the raptor family, with a strength of around 500 psi it is 8 times stronger than that of a human being. Rather than eviscerating their prey, the owl tends to end their meal with a singular crushing strike upon capture
