Damn, dude, way to flex with those backgrounds! I agree that it'd help if you utilized some better line weight variation (making the lines around the main focus characters a bit bolder while making background lines thinner) or using some grayscale to help things stand out, because there's times where the sheer amount of lines starts feeling visually cluttered (most notable examples of this are the second panel of page 2, and the final panel of the comic).
However! despite that, I'm seriously impressed with your backgrounds here, and I do love the patience/dedication you show by putting in so much detail!! Even though there are a lot of lines, they all have a purpose by giving texture or showing form.

Congrats on getting in! If you need any help navigating the site, don't be afraid to reach out for help! :)

That's a great intro comic!! Theakon looks like the perfect character to unleash even more chaos on Void.
Congrats on getting him in!

I suggest trying some gradient studies. Try to make shades of gray going from white to black to practice mark making. Maybe watch your silhouettes, on page 1 panel two, it might be stronger to have his fist more separated from his mouth. I really like the city drawings!

JCee - Thanks! And sure thing, I'm not sure how challenges work yet on the site, but whenever you feel up to it!

TRM - Definitely a possibility!

wilsoninc - Thanks!

Radji - Only time will tell what destruction he sows. But it will definitely be stylish!

so much potential! A good ol' "I'm here to kick ass and I got no bubblegum to chew" type of character who is here to sow destruction with style.

Thanks for taking the time to do that Snowy! I really appreciate it. I'm currently working on a Beyond Battle and will definitely implement some things you mentioned and other little things you made me realize I was doing without even knowing!

Alright, I'm not the best at critique on typography, but I'll try! First, you mix lowercase and uppercase letters (most specifically the o on the second page and the o and u on the last page), which might also just be a sizing issue. The sizes of some of the text are different or the line weight of them varies quite a bit. You also go between rounded ends and sharp ends on m' and w's, when you should just choose one.

I suggest using a ruler for your text if you don't want to go digital, to keep each line straight, and maybe some tool for speech bubbles as well. You could also change the style of bubble you use, it just seems a little cramped right now, like you're placing the bubbles before doing the text (can you do the text first before inks? It may fix the problem if you're not fitting it around images.).

I do like how you're able to bold each word when you have it though, like the 'strong' and 'void city,' I think it gives it a unique feel to the words. I disagree that digital art doesn't have energy or flow, but I appreciate your dedication to traditional media!

Oooo I like this character a lot! I also dig the ink style and details of the backgrounds.

Would love to battle this guy one of these days!

kubo - Thanks! And hell yeah! Gotta take off those training wheels off at some point!

Snowy - Thanks for the critiques! I'm actually trying to learn to hand letter because I prefer the idea as well as the possibilities of hand lettering. Heard a quote from Moebius today that went something along the lines of "I like to hand letter because then what you see on the page is my own writing." And I like that idea as an artist since I'm more into art that has energy and flow instead of being overly digitized and rendered. That's just what my tastes have evolved into nowadays! That being said though, this IS my first go at it and I would really like to learn more from what made this hard to read for you. I already have some ideas of things that might have impacted it, but I appreciate the points of view of a different set of eye balls for sure! Could you pinpoint some places where it was hard to read, or was it just hard to read as a whole?

Bobert - A villain huh? Ouuhhh I might have just the idea for that laying around! But I'll get a couple comics under my belt first to get the jist of how the site works. hint: Demon.

Thanks for the comments/critiques everyone!

Freaking sweet! New guy! Can't wait for you to also add a villain to your roster!

I can't really give you much in the way of a critique besides what was already mentioned by Kubo and Snowy.

Very fun character! The perspective is fun, but I think you could work a bit more with the line weight to make it pop out, and it would be beneficial to do your typesetting with an art program (it's a little hard to read right now). You have really nice inks though, and it's nice to see that you're not afraid to have intricate backgrounds!

Ooooooh, new character, old member. Welcome back! Good work on the intro comic. Your inks are solid and I love your city backgrounds. Theakon is my kind of opponent. Hopefully we can go toe to toe sometime in the future.
