I've never seen a few of these characters in action and it was nice to see Gray being a bitch to as many people at once as possible. but the real highlight for me was Windigo's minions. When I read his intro comic, i was like . wow.

gross power, bro :)

but it's nice to see how the little weirdos interact and see that they are not as gross as I thought they'd be. but most interesting of all is seeing that Windigo actually cares about the little freaks!

REALLY professional artwork as well, guys! I like how you divi'd the art up - it's basically seamless workflow! and it looks better than a lot of stuff on the shelves at comic stores!

great team up, hope to see more big hitters working together like this ~!

Your dialogue text is way to crunched together to read easily. I'd play with kerning to make sure the letters have room to breathe, or even try a new font if you need to.

I can't handle Remy and Gray bantering, it's so great. I love how lightly Remy takes this shit when it's all so serious. I also love your backgrounds; they have so many little details and cameos that make them worth taking time out of reading the comic to just look at them. I also love how Wendigo's homunculi are basically cameos too haha. Also, Lu mentioning Knowledge and Power just reminds me how Kozi left things so ambiguous at the end of Heavyweight and she still hasn't given us any more details >:[

Sorry for the abrupt and disjointed crit, I'm just way behind on comics atm. But I had to tell you how much I loved this comic. The coloring is so good, and I love how it brings everything together. It's not even totally clear who drew or inked what because of how seamlessly you all worked together. And I just love all of the character dynamics going on. Not to mention including the lore of past armas; that's such a cool idea! I have a sneaking suspicion that was Kubo's idea, since he also brought Viridius into a Kubo comic not too long ago. Really looking forward to where this takes all of these characters!

Man,  the way you all work together and merge into one artistic voice is incredible. The colors, the emotions, the line, the tense conflict for power among the city's awful people. *kiss fingers*

With only a few hours to go, wanted to drop my thanks for all the crits and comments! :D Lotsa good stuff to take and improve on with the next one that's got me excited. Also glad we weren't the only one's so far who've been inspired by this years Arma and everyone's favorite Gray.

A big thanks to Kubo for wrangling this together and Shen for allowing us to be involved in Gray's story of her becoming threat with Hunter. :D :D

A lovely comic all round, as someone who isn't too familiar with the ins and outs of recent HW tournaments I still found this short story accessible and entertaining to read. I mostly enjoyed the characters bouncing off each other with all their own ambitions and motivations, reminded me a bit of when villains from Batman the animated series interact.

YOOOOOO THAT ENDING THOU.

Crits: Artwise, I have nothing I can actually point out. ITs consistent, its gorgeous, the texturing, the confident lines, the muted yet popping colors. Its fantastically moody. HOnestly, its just... super goddamn good you guys. Wow.

Writing wise, the pacing and the dialogue is... stilted. The dialogue doesn't flow that well, and it makes the transition between storybeats a little jarring and the way this comic begins about the artifact, it does a less stellar job of continuing the thread. If your dialogue is mean to furthering a specific plotpoint, it needs to be wrapped about that plot. Instead it felt somewhat fillerish banter at times. It could have stood to have some trimming.

EYES EMOJI man I’ve been waiting for this to come out after all those hype panels. What a cast of villains to come together! The art as usual was top quality, and dang Kubo and Kozi, your styles came together really well here. I couldn’t tell when it was one of you inking or the other, it felt really cohesive. As were the colour palettes! Those were great here, damn. I love how they’re vibrant, but not overly saturated or too much. Just right! I’m guessing we can thank Shen for picking out said palettes, hehe. Lovely textures too. Also minor note, love the little heart coming from the Fowler homunculus when he gets vomited back to life XD

I really enjoyed the last half of the story particularly, I love watching Gray dramatically fling herself over Wendigo and try to manipulate him herself, while warning him that he’s being manipulated by somebody else. What delicious irony, and great character acting. I adored that last panel on page 11, that filled the lower half of the page. The combination of the closeup of just her lips, with Gray’s words, honeyed just as Lu’s were, and then Wendigo in deep shadow with those red eyes and sharp teeth, just *chef’s kiss*. The final page was also pretty stunning, with those huge muscles and gauntlets looming behind Wendigo.

However... the writing felt disjointed to me which unfortunately made the comic overall fall a little flat. Though I was enjoying the visuals very much, the conversation didn’t seem to flow, characters seemingly answering different questions or speaking at cross purposes to what was being asked/said by another character, making the first half of the story hard to follow (the Gray and Wendigo part was fine). For example, when Lu first addresses Wendigo, we have this exchange:

Wendigo: If you hate him (Remy) that much, why are you wasting words? Just kill him.

Lu: A straightforward, if not shortsighted strategy. There are alternatives. You claim to be the greatest fighter in Void City, but you know who truly holds the title.

Wendigo: Arena.

Lu: Yes. So now we arrive at alternatives. Remy has already divulged that we’re willing to guide you to her doorstep. What if I told you there was a way to rise to her level, beyond it, even?
Quote

So the conversation starts with Gray being angry at Remy for betraying her, and Wendigo being like “lol if ur mad just kill him”, and then it suddenly veers off into Lu bringing up Wendigo’s fighter status, his quest for Arena, and offering him power as an “alternative” to Gray killing Remy. How are these connected? This was offered as an alternative to WENDIGO, somebody who wasn’t planning on killing Remy. As it stands, Lu offers an alliance so Wenidgo can get more power... as an alternative to Gray killing Remy?? This doesn’t even work from Gray’s perspective. Lu is basically saying “hey! Instead of killing Remy because you’re mad, how about we give this other dude power and help him catch this superhero?”. It just doesn’t follow on. It’s a pretty random and jarring jump. Lu is clearly offering this because she needs Remy alive and doesn’t want Wendigo encouraging his death, but the way it’s presented as an alternative just muddled things, especially throwing the Arena hunt into the mix too. And then Gray feels sidelined as she says nothing after this during the entire conversation between Lu and Wendigo, simply hanging there and barely even reacting as they talk, until she explicitly says she’s being ignored and leaves in a huff. She doesn’t even respond to Wendigo’s direct suggestion to her to kill Remy. I know that she’s SUPPOSED to be sidelined by the characters themselves, but the fact that she doesn’t say a word when I’d expect her to be spitting the whole time makes her feel sidelined by the writer too.

I’m not even sure why she’s in the scene tbh, why she needed to be there with Wendigo at the same time. She gives all the necessary information in the second half of the comic and adds little to the story before it. The only thing that would need changing was the single line about Wendigo directly seeing how they treated her. To me it would make more sense if Wendigo maybe heard/saw bits of the conversation while he was still half knocked out, she storms out as he fully wakes up, and THEN Lu tries to make a deal with him. Or hell, the Swan homunculus herself says she heard the conversation, and we see she’s awake while Wendigo is still knocked out. Why not just show her observing things, have Gray leave before Wendigo wakes up as said before, and then do the Wendigo-Lu deal after he does wake up? Because the two threads haven’t meshed well together here imo with them all being awake and trying to establish things at the same time. For that matter Remy doesn’t do much either besides add a bit of banter. You could take him out after Gray leaves and not change anything important. He just gets the box, like Gray he becomes sidelined and doesn’t say a word after she leaves. He doesn’t react to Gray’s threat and even disappears from the room until he’s needed to grab a box! On page 8 he’s right next to Gray, in front of the railing, but even though we see Gray disappearing through the wall beyond Lu and Wendigo in the last panel, he’s nowhere to be seen. That’s how unimportant he is, that it seems somebody forgot to draw him into the scene. By the next page he’s in a totally different position, leaping off a desk he seems to have been lounging on in a different part of the room, despite little time having passed.

There were also parts of the story where I felt like context was missing (despite there being no asterisks indicating a previous comic I needed to have read, not to mention I HAVE actually read all the other comics mentioned in this one) or things were done in a way that felt unnecessary. Like, what was the artefact? The one that the homunculi in the beginning were talking about? Was it the cloth he was gripping at the end? How did he lose it? Why carry the Fowler homunculus dead for ages when Wendigo seemingly knew eating him again would revive him the whole time?

I have a few little nitpicks too, because you guys are pretty much professional level at this point haha. I can see a white ring at the edge of most (if not all) of the speech bubbles, as if they weren’t filled properly. And on page 7 the tail of one bubble points downwards into Lu’s lip rather than towards her mouth.

Seeing all these villains in one room is so chilling and exciting. I have been hearing about this BB for awhile and I am glad it finally came out and I am not disappointed. Kudos to everyone involved. I cannot wait to see where this leads.
