Kent: I'll echo what the others said, I really like the bookend of the space station and the wheel! I didn't personally have a problem with Pepper walking to her death (it gave a very fatalistic feel, like she knew death was coming and couldn't avoid it so she gave in), but what I did have a problem with was how Pepper just came right out and blurted out a laundry list of illegal substances without, y'know, checking to make sure Eris wasn't a cop? XD

Kubo: I'M HERO FOR MUSCLE LAWYER. That was such a good gag omg. Poor Pepper tho. She deserves better. And she's gonna need so much therapy. As far as the death, I'm with Hellis in that I didn't really have a problem with it; it felt like it fit in perfectly with the humor of a muscle lawyer, who, until he ripped his clothes off, looked extremely skinny and frail. It's cartoon logic (and also damn brutal, lol)

I love how you matched the first and last page. It would have been a bit more meaningful if you had ever shown Pepper riding her bike, but I still got the idea. This comic was short in a way that made me wish there was more to it; it feels like a prologue, which is fine, but I would have liked a bit more of the main story, or at least have more of a fight between Pepper and Eris. The way Pepper just sort of walks to her death feels anticlimactic. I do like how you made it about a secret drug cartel, and would love to see that plot develop, but I guess I just felt like not much happened in this comic other than mentioning more interesting things that would come later. Maybe I'm being overly picky. I did enjoy the art, as always; your style just has such a unique feel to it that's hard to describe, but always enjoyable to look at. And the ending was great for sure. I love that sense of humor to go along with a much more serious vibe.

I don't have a ton to add to what's already been said; I just really love the concept of this character and how she's more of an innocent bystander than participant in this fight. Your style for this comic gives me a bit of a Saturday morning cartoon vibe, which I'm loving. Some of the backgrounds were pretty sparse, but that alleyway was looking great! I hope Pepper gets that date (and it doesn't end up being a psycho killer... but there's no way that'd happen right?)

Mr Kent: I really liked how it was opening up, but then Pepper... goes to the bathroom? And lets her follow her in? And turns her back on her? Huh. Granted, the punchline is a good way to follow up on it, but something seems a little off about the execution after all that setup.

Kubo: Okay I have ONE Question: How as Muscle Lawyer not your character for the tournament? Muscle Lawyer is the hero we need. Seriously though, the presence Muscle Lawyer kind of outshines everyone else, especially Pepper Box. Granted, her "thing" seems to be being very normal, but I was kind of expecting her to be some sort of normie extraterrestrial, too, l because of how often her nose is stylistically left off. Ending was... kind of random but that's one way to do it, and those tacos do sound nasty...

Thank you for the critiques, you three. I was under the impression that Eris wasn’t actually human. Mainly because she’s a space assassin but also because her last name is literally ‘Human.’ That’s why I thought having her head blowup from eating something as mundane as onions was an appropriate death. I could have made that part more obvious in the dialogue or visuals. I’ll keep that in mind next round :)

Kent: I loved the space noir feel of this and its a solid job for such a short time. The conclusion was logical, what with the nature of the matchup. Its a shame this is a death tournament, becouse I'd kill to battle this charachter down the line.

Kubo: I will say that I disagree with the previous commentors on the onion. The fact that its onion that makes her head explode makes it funnier to me. Its absurdist humor. There was allready a muscle lawyer, so realism should have not been the expectation at that point. On to the important part of things. The arts mindblowingly good. for such a short time window. You should seriously be making money on this shit, its so good. The writing is solid, not your best work, but still good.

Kent: I really enjoy your worldbuilding in this really nice and your inks are always solid. All around really solid, Pepper could have tried to put up more of a fight when Eris pulled out the gun, but with such a short time limit there's only so much you can do and I think you did a good job.

Kubo: the quality you put out is fantastic, Pepper is a great character and the fight with the muscle lawyer was funny. Also the layout you did for the fight was creative and flowed well. However I didn't like the death. The joke didn't work because it was a realistic ingredient causing a unrealistic over the top reaction to a human character, when I got to that point I was just left confused since that's not what onions do and it was too over the top and gorey to make that funny. just making it an alien ingredient would have solved that. Still you are super strong and this is a really good comic.

Kent - I really liked how you wrapped this comic up with the space ring vs the bicycle wheel! Interesting interpretation of Pepper too. Pretty neat and well drawn comic overall, though maybe played a bit safe?

Kubo - Aw Pepper is so cute, I loved her expressions here! Poor kid can’t seem to catch a break. The muscle lawyer segment made me laugh too. The death though... I think if you wanted to do the head popping, a made-up alien ingredient would have worked better, or if you went with an onion allergy, have Eris die with a realistic reaction. It felt like that moment couldn’t decide between absurdist gross-out or reality and so didn’t work for me.

Yall so clean, what a match! Both were very nice and to the point, with just about enough fluff to keep it fun. The quintessential SDT comics.

Oh wow good show you two! I can't imagine how Kubo was able to produce 8 full color pages but way to play!

Good luck!
