This is pretty great! I love the spot blacks and how everything fits in art-wise. The story seems more of a one-shot thing it seems and shows Conway in a (rare?) vulnerable moment while reflecting on all the wrong things that had happened to him lately. It's not a bad thing in my book and it's good to see characters out of their element once in awhile.

Heathen:I disagree. I think the final panel informs pretty clearly that Conway's devil-may-care confidence is an act. Even the way he's crumpling the bill tells us that his trademark mooching is just keeping up appearances, and he has bigger problems than pocket money on his mind.ArtsandGoodies: going so quickly from his low state to high state devalues both of them and makes it less serious than what may have been the goal of this comic.Quote

I love seeing the more grounded or humanizing moments in characters like this. It's why I like writing my own toon characters, so I can get to meaty moments like this.

I love your inks, they're so clean and the comic feels complete without needing colors or color is really impressive. However due to the tonal switches and jokes it was hard for the reader to fully comprehend how bad a situation Conway is in, which makes it hard to get invested in the story. The emotional crux of the story seems to be the final panel on page 3 and I don't think it gets enough time to on it for the reader to be invested and realize how series the situation is. It is mostly tell without show. Along with that the next panel we see him in he's in an excited state, going so quickly from his low state to high state devalues both of them and makes it less serious than what may have been the goal of this comic. that being said this is a good lead up to toontown and good luck in the tourney.

I had actually written this right after my election loss, but you know how it goes. I found my thumbnails and the first sketched page and decided to finish it this week. So consider this a quickie to update on Conway (and have some La Bomba screen time) before the tourney. <3

My hope was that the jokes would still play and then make it apparent that Conway is very intentional about keeping things light for his friends. If I go for anything heavier than this moment in future comics, I'll plan them to give it enough breathing room. So still good critique to learn from!
