Sexy-sad til the end... that's the dream.

You guys both left me feeling sad af with these deaths but I loved them both for it.

@Fred: I think I came back to reread your comic the most out of any of the other comics in SDT. Something about the watercolors and the storyline left a big impression on me. It was just so somber and I love it.

@Kent: Page two is a gem when it comes to showing the repetitive nature of her life. I didn’t expect the comic ending the way it did, especially with the character like Cutie Mark and I think that help with the impact of the death in the end.

Oh my goodness I love these approaches to the tourney! It’s quirky yet still ultimately dark in regards to how the characters die and how its portrayed within each of the works. How each of you approached the content also increases the impact towards the end, and as such, truly resonated with me within the realms of narrative.
Fred V2.0.1:
Man oh man. Every time I see watercolor / marker / traditional artwork constructing a narrative I preemptively prepare myself to be sad, as this style reminds me of many stories that have horrible twists towards the end. But in this we know, its required. The rival has to die, and he did.
The way in which this was shown to the audience, Herself’s calm demeanor and lack of enjoying parties contrasting with Cutie trying hard to make his last hurrah with a ‘friend’ something entertaining, really made me feel a type of sympathy for Cutie’s lonely death. Even looking through it again I can hear this hype ass horse yell out his last words before slumping down and a long lasting beep rings out over Herself’s words. Its delightfully somber, and I love that about this comic. The border, lineart, and coloring fit perfectly with this narrative presented, and I hope you can continue on to carry on this momentum of artistically “soft” deaths.

Mister Kent:

Again, the approach on this death is...beautiful. I enjoy the mundanity of Herself’s existence presented as something that cannot be escaped unless she kills herself. One thing I’ve learned through most of these submissions, is how much you can express within a few pages. I love the general chill Cutie while this happen, and not only do we, as the audience, get to see how he reacts, if he even cares, and are left with wanting more as far as personality within this character. If he continues on, I would love to see how much farther his general day-to-day leads to other’s untimely death.

Overall the approaches to death by both of you are unique and I love that. The incorporation kind of of numbing ‘character choice’ or ‘ character has no choice’ in death into this tourney is so great to have amongst the other works. Great work, the both of you!

I have the feeling that when the trumpets sound and mortal existence draws to a close, Fred and I will still be drawing super gay comics, killing off each other's characters, and relentlessly trying to out-weird each other. Cheers on another fine work, old friend!

Edited to add: The reason we vibes so good on teh comics is because both our styles fill that really specific niche combo of bizarre-dark-sad-sexy. You do it mostly better than I, but its definitely what I aspire to.

All I have to say is I don't support Bronies... And being terminally ill IS lame. Incredible work you two! Keep it up 8)

This has to be one of my favorites from this round. Both battles were really entertaining and I love how creative the deaths were. Great work you guys!

@fred: this looks really great, it has just the right level of watercolor and detail throughout and is very  well structured. you really get to know all these characters in just a few pages. good work!

@kent: this one caught me off guard! the suicide themes are dark and dont match up with the sexy flying centaur much but this comic is well delivered. i especially like page two, the time lapse is comedic at first but now i realize it's dark because it's showing the reason why she wanted to die, i think. your inks in this are tidy and your backgrounds are pretty consistent, i'm interested to see where you'll go with this guy.

@kent: Whoops, hit "Post Comment" too early so you get your own post! I was surprised at how somber this comic ended up. Cutie Mark is such a wacky character, yet this comic ended up being kinda deep. I don't know if you used the phrase "with myself" as a reference to Fred's character's name, but I like to think you did because that would be a great little bit of wordplay. Your art was solid for this comic, too. I don't really have much to add; it was a good comic that made me kinda feel things! I think I wasn't really clear on why Fred decided to kill herself, which made it a little less emotionally impactful, but otherwise I enjoyed the ride (pun definitely intended).

@fred: OMG this entire comic was so unexpected! It was entertaining from start to finish, and I love how simple and sincere you yourself was. Your depiction of Cutie Mark went above and beyond expectations. The overall appearance of the comic was sketchy and messy. The colors were nice, and your style is always a pleasure to look at, but it just felt like less than your best work. I don't know if you're practicing new techniques or you just had to rush this one, but that was my overall feeling of it. Still a really great comic and I look forward to more from yourself!

I laughed out loud at the endings to both. Exactly what I expected from two of my faves. Great work, I don't want either one of them to die!

I'm so disappointed that one of these characters has to die so early.
