You did amazing Charlie, it was great to see you flex your muscle with a story-telling narrative.

Congrats on the win, and thanks for the fight!
Good luck in round 4!
Also sorry Jong, but I leave the rest to MORTIDO.

Thanks Kozi! I know I haven't touched much upon the underlying plot points (yet) mostly because I didn't have one until round 2 where I had to cram it in. The serpents are not actually "The Man" rather the snake represents the Ouroboros - the thing the man wants to revive for nefarious reasons I shall not say yet. I kept him open ended for now but dropped the bomb in the chat one day anyway which is why I assume rofl is using that thread too (even though describing him as a space desperado in round 2 gave it away), but Mortido is actually the main villain if I were to face him. The reasons as to which again, not saying for now. It was said in the beginning of round 2 that Mortido was on Earth and she could feel his presence - but again there is something more to that too. I have been dropping reallllllly subtle hints as to what Sally is afraid of, what Ai is afraid of, in this comic and in the previous one too that won't make sense until I finally blow the lid off it. I figured she would come across more worried than angry in this one as she has been under Sally's mentorship for three years which explains her composure but the hint is there that when faced against Mortido she may lose that control. There are a lot of little odds and ends and it's been difficult to convey it all in 3 pages but I would liken it to a slow burn with a huge payoff if I can make it that far. It will all make sense in time as the pieces are there but not fully revealed to everyone yet.
That said it is a fault that I couldn't accurately convey it in a way that people have remembered yet and the critique is a good one, doing a longer style story in an episodic format in 3 pages has definitely been a challenge. But at least I hope that clears a little up of what happened in these last two rounds. The information was there I just didn't present it clear enough or I have kept things intentionally vague in the event I get to move on. If not maybe I will just spill the beans somewhere to get it out of my system
Glad you dig what I did with Sally I was hoping it would go over well so that's a relief for sure.

This was for sure the heavyweight of battles for LSDT. You guys brought it, and brought it with gusto.
CHARLIE- If there is one thing I dig about your work, its the fact you take a concept like LSDT, or a regular opponent and turn it on its head. Granted, there are times your tweaks and stylization make the story AND opponent unrecognizable, but in this instance there's a great harmony of concept. Old Salli looks super fab and really drives home the wisdom given based on what Roflqu has established with the character what with his sibling connection. To go from unsure lizard kid to wizened tournament monk has me reeling ,but in a good way. Its such a unique direction to take this story that it left me smiling. The collage of Salli's unfortunate life events on page 2 is a particular favorite. To end it all with the Silhouette of Ai best on both sides by that faceless serpentine adversary known only as the man is good hype. Good hype indeed.
While Featuring your opponent is admirable, I feel thus far we haven't really gotten to know Ai. Honestly, we haven't gotten much based on the previous battles either. I'm not talking about the backstory, the bad guy or reasons she's on earth. I mean her specifically. Where's this burning resentment and vengeance apart from just being written via exposition? Why would Sally bring it up when she seems so...well, pretty collected? I'm not really seeing much of a conflict more so than just general worry. Even in previous battles, the only time I truly saw her go off the handle was when she lost her toast. For someone whose lost a planet and everything she knows, I figure we'd see her kind of unraveling with some righteous fury and needing to uphold justice. That we'd see a reason as to why ol Sally is concerned about her feelings to bring it up.
ROFLQU- Once again, you find a way to worm everyone's favorite little salamander into our hearts. This poor kid. THIS POOR KID. The tournament has not been kind to him. Now here is a developing storyline where you definitely see the wear and tear something like LSDT would have on an individual. Even so, this comic allowed for us to get a glimpse of the tender side Sally has doing his best to handle very adult situations of death and dying he cannot help or fix. I also like the nods to elements outside of just you and your opponent. I see you with that '3 page max' graffiti on the wall. Also, ambitious to already be thinking of a possible next opponent by tying in Mortido. It really expands your story to more than just 'chance encounter, fight of only these two people' as well as provides a legitimate reason why two folks we expect to kill one another would team up. Clever!
I'm also not sure what ABI means when they say your narrative was lead by words rather than illustrated. Ai talking about her past is illustrated at every point on page two. We get snapshots of a backstory which I think ties in well to Alli Ally alliyahgahfkdfgd (because don't they look similar?? I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought so), not to mention unifies them both into having feels for their respective siblings. I think my only complaint would be that I wish the flashback was more evident. We suddenly switch over to a goon crashing through a window which took me a while to realize we'd snapped back to the present. Maybe coloring the past differently from the future would've made it more obvious.
Also considering Ai is rocking something a sailor moon-ish trope, it was bittersweet to see her go out in such a heroic way. To be honest, the both of you had really creative and beautiful ways of dispatching your opponents. Is that ok to say beautiful when peeps are dying? IDK XD Its funny how you both had no idea what the other was doing, but both of you used your opponent after death to help your fighter in some way. While I thought Charlie's guiding star was poetic, seeing Ai become something of a part of Sally was really cool. Argh! This is going to be one super tough vote you guys.
But hey, arent those the best kinds of matches?

I liked your comic a lot Rofl, you even wove it into my other characters story haha which was neato. I can't say I thought of that one actually, also I loved how you used my Mortido setup I was going for (I guess the cat is outta the bag on that one but I recall spilling those beans in the chat lol). Nice art as always :>
Sorry for my comment being brief I am on my phone laying in bed still lol.

It's funny how both of these comics turned out to be somewhat similar in theme, but I'm giving the edge to Charlie's comic. Even if it was a somber piece of mostly talking and remembrance, I like that most of the development is told visually with relatively little dialogue, and the vibrant colors and creative paneling give it life and character. Amazing way to demonstrate how to do such much with so little. By contrast I think Rofl's colors were a little too muted, and I think the saturation could have been cranked up leading up to the finale to ramp up the energy. I also think those tiny panels aren't doing you any favors, where your narrative was carried more through strings of words rather than illustrated.
Great job guys.

Very cool and interesting direction! I really liked your story.
I also thought the tombstone said 'Beloved JESTER'.
Drop more critique later.

Well I submitted.
I didn't have as much time as last round to work on this one (I basically lost a day and I had to contend with work so I lost a lot of sleep)...but I tried really hard anyway to make something at least nice out of this :>

It all comes full circle. From SRT to this. Can Charlie dazzle us with a knockout win, or will Roflqu have that victory on repeat? Either way, its gonna be a darn good time.
Super excited for this one. G'luck you'se guys!

Charlie- I pretty much instantly fell in love with your artstyle and binged a good chunk of your archive right away.
Ew Schneider- easy to see why your one of the heavies around here after reading this. Several people have kept recommending Sallys comics specifically and they live up to the hype. Hope she shows up for more one day.
