AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAGAAHD! Holy shit this is beautiful Crafty! My only criticism is that sometimes it gets a little too soft, and you need some points of sharp articulation to focus on. You totally did that in a bunch of spots though! Also, be careful to keep your structure strong. Sometimes in your art it feels like you do your pencils/roughs really fast, and skip to the rendering before you have that stuff in solidly.

But really, this is gorgeous. The colors, the texture, the tone, ffffffffffffffffffff. I don't even know what to say beyond bashing my keyboard until my laptop breaks into pieces, and I can never navigate away from your beautiful comic. You're setting the bar high for the rest of us dude!

Julz               -

MAN WAHT! HOW IS THIS A PIECE OF SHIT?! Are you serious right now bro? When I hit the first lovely shot of the forest on page 3, it just froze me. It's so perfect. Like fucking storybook perfect. All those biits of tonal change, and little textural lines. There's so much love and care thrown into the backgrounds. And you're still like one of my favorite peeps when it comes to expressions. Everyone is just so charming, all of the time. Really, that's what I thought this comics was, incredibly charming. You can't be up and always funny, you need to create moments of contrast, periods of rest.

I would've like it if you'd have used cold shadows a little bit more consistently when that was the light situation. Like all of the orangey bits on Nyasuu where just darker orange/yellow, and you could've  pushed the awesome atmosphere of the forest into the characters way further.

You both brought it guys, and you should BOTH be preening with pride.

Both of these are technically slice of life stories handled two different ways and both done correctly.

Crafty introduced a new world and setting that's all her own, and learning about it was an interesting read in itself.
This would have gotten really low marks from me if they simply met and talked about the tribes, but then CONFLICT actually happened towards the end that left off on a pretty good cliffhanger.

Julz on the other hand showed a chance meeting between two strangers that gave us some insight where Nyasuu has been this whole time as well as breaking off from the Avant Guardians that never were to finally become her own strong character.   Her meeting with Leandre changed something about how Leandre can control his bestial instincts (which by the way is his character CONFLICT) which can set up into future comics.

This is how you do slice of life people.  Even if the conflict isnt a fight, there still needs to be conflict.

Ah yeah I know, sorry guys XD Everyone gets discouraged now and again. I guess I was overreacting calling it a fucked up piece of shit, but I just really feel like I didn't use the full potential of the opportunity of battling Crafty! It's such a fun character to battle!! Crafty!! I challenge you to a rematch... later! Consider us rivals! And ofc LeFred you are still me #1 rival ;P don't think I've forgotten about you.

Yeah, don't ever call your work shit :V If you worked hard on it, then that's what really matters. Even if it didn't work out as well as you wanted, every comic you make, good or otherwise, helps you learn and improve. Don't be afraid to try different genres and techniques and styles, even at first they don't turn out as well as you hoped, because the more you do them, the better you will become. Your comic is far from 'fucked up'. It has flaws, every comic does, but if you really gave it your all, then no-one can ask any more of you than that. I thought your story was real cute and your style is adorable, and I'm so happy to have had the honor of battling you.

Did crafty just retcon my story?

Wow crafty, your pages are fuckin beautiful. How do you do it? It's just so damn colorful and painted. Did it take long? How much time did you have to actually work on it? Don't you go to school? Geez girl.

Yeah I know mine's not as funny as previous ones. I guess I was just doing something else, but I guess it hurt me in the end. Yeah as far as the consistency goes, I don't know what I  was thinking. I made a fun face and I just ran with it, not considering that every face was in a completely diff style. I really fucked this one up. I worked so damn hard on it I guess I expected it not to be a piece of shit.

My initial impressions:

CRAFTY: lovely colors, but maybe too rough. I think you can keep your painterly style while paying more attention to the figures and overall details.

JULZ: This was cute and fun, but the overall pacing is just a hair too stretched out in the begining. I like your panel layouts. However, avoid aligning the gutters like on PAGE 4. It works well on PAGE 7, but in general it's best to avoid it on layouts with less than 5 panels.

ahhhh you both colour such adorable furry faces!! so round and fuzzy and cute!! i want Christopher and Nyasuu to be BFFs and get drunk at bonfires together!!
omg Crafty I can't believe how you colour! They look like paintings, its so beautiful! I can't even express properly how much i love how you colour. The story is bittersweet and I'm so sad for poor lonely Christopher! The bullet explosion I guess could have been a little clearer if I'm gonna get picky, at first i thought it was an arrow and the cat-folk were attacking him. and like LeFred said, the ending is a bit abrupt, Nyasuu calls him her friend and then a couple minutes later says they can't be friends anymore and leaves... and i get WHY but i felt that could have been expanded upon a bit I guess. But that aside, fantastic comic!
Julz I always love your expressions and gestures, and your big bright eyes haha! your colours are pretty, i think you managed to capture a forest at dawn very well with your light pinks and earthy greens. Everybody is so lonely in both of these comics! i want to squish their fuzzy faces! speaking of fuzzy faces that last panel with the closeup of Cristopher's mouth looked great!
in conclusion Nyasuu's new role in Void is Manic Pixie Dream Girl in Ladder Shades.
glad this bug got fixed so we can all read and properly vote on these awesome comics!

CRAFTY. I like this comic a lot! The characters' structure can get a bit off or skewed at times, and the colours can get a bit muddy, especially when you've got those dark blues crawling into everything, but I really like most of your colour work and I love the kinda rough painterly aesthetic, it's got a lot of character and really fits the style of the story. The story which I also love! You created a cool little alternate world that actually fits the characters involved and you made it very compelling. I love that hunting scene, it's so fun. The only problem I have with it is the abrupt ending, which I guess is from lack of time, BUT, when you don't have time to finish things the way you want, you can end them a bit differently. For example, you easily could have made this ending better just by changing what they're saying a bit, like if Nyasuu is starting to question him and the danger he represents instead of straight up banishing him on a whim, you could leave on a note of suspense and just a hint of breaking relationships, really mess with our hearts, leave us a tiny bit of unfounded hope.

But yeah, I totally dig it. Be careful, you're starting to become one of my favorite artists around here.

Okay I have no idea where Bobo is, Crafty email me your pages and I'll see if manually overwriting the resized files fixes it.

I took the comic down for now. I don't really have a way of fixing it so it might have to wait until Bobo can do something about it.

Agreed. I can't make a proper judgment if Crafty's pages were botched by the uploader. I would also like to vouch for mods correcting the upload error.

The uploader automatically resized Crafty's long pages into what you see there.  The same thing happened to me when i tried to upload a long page for my double battle.

This is not crafty's fault.  This is a problem with the uploader.

I am not going to vote on this until something is done about the uploader's automatic resizing.

CRAFTY WHY YOUR PAGES SO SMALL?
They look like they're fucking beautiful, but they're totally unreadable!

Julz, we can kinda feel the cutdowns as everything is just crammed towards the end, but you still manage to create a pretty decent flow for it. It's a pretty cute comic, not as funny as we're used to, but it's nice to see something a bit different. Nyasu's new role as woods sage does nicely work for her. Your environment and compositions are really good when you want them to be! I think what you'd need to work on most is consistency, you've got a great style, but things don't seem exactly set in it, sometimes it's a bit looser, sometimes a bit tighter... try and find your balance.

Rock on.

Hey. I'm gonna comment now in case I don't have time before the battle goes up.
I wanted to try something new - so I guess this comic is a little different. Whether you guys dig it or not, it was fun to do and I really enjoyed making it. (And I hope I resized it right hhhhhh)
Although I may have bitten off more than I could chew, especially trying to balance art quality with story - there was SO MUCH STUFF I had to cut because I simply didn't have time, and because of that, I feel there isn't a whole lot of characterization and I mightn't have really done Nyasuu justice. Perhaps I will be able to make a compilation of deleted scenes sometime, haha. Even now, it doesn't really have a proper conclusion, which I'm not happy about; but I had to kind of get the 'ending' over and done with quickly, otherwise I would be putting up another unfinished comic, and I don't want to make that a habit. Again, perhaps I can continue this story in a BB sometime.

So anyway, best of luck to Julz, I can't wait to see your side :3 I'm sure it'll be awesome.
