garic, i liked the inking & the lettering a great deal. the figures may have been a little too loose at times, but i didn't feel distractingly so. overall i liked it. but the story felt a little bit lacking though. liked the ambiguous bit but the rest seemed a little too to the point. and if she can just regenerate, how's she gonna die?

fox, after reading your response to the font issue, i think the biggest disconnect you're having is that the text on the page isn't a separate entity from the art. it's just as much part of the overall aesthetic. giving up on that is like giving up on the overall look on your page. i don't think anyone was accusing you of using comic sans this time, but using one with such a synthetic style doesn't work so well either when you're using it with handdrawn line art. the contrast is stark in a distracting way. will's provided some solid examples so don't freak, just give his suggestions a shot. ideally, like i've told you in the past, you want something that will suit your line art rather than detract from it.
besides all that, i think the bigger issue is that it's never consistent. i don't know how you do your word balloons, but fit them to your text not your text to the word balloons. the way the text squashes & stretches between each balloon makes it look sloppy & sometimes effects the legibility. and transparency's just never a good idea.
as for the art, if you have an area where you're going to spot black, flatten those blacks to a solid even tone. it's much more slick than seeing areas where the ink didn't dry as much. do that by adjusting your levels in photoshop. aside from that, there were a lot of right angled shots that felt stiff or alienated the viewer instead of having the action come at them. or sometimes, you'd get real tight on something & the cropping would feel like you were trying to skimp out on drawing more. next time, give action room to breathe & if you want to get in tight, it's fine, but give us more of a frame of reference to work with. and try to have the action coming towards the reader at an angle to help generate excitement.

Hmmm... you guys were about even to me.

Garic's was superior in art, despite little technical issues it was a nice presentation/colors.
Fox your style is like a war between traditional and digital media. Some tones or spot blacks could have really enhanced the mood.
Fox24s had more meat to the story and a bit more creativity than just a meet n beat.

So things kinda evened each other out. Whoever makes it I look forward to the next.

Coldstream: Fox... it's not worth arguing about. If there's one thing I've learned on Void, don't comment back and don't get agitated. Seems people feed off of that!!

Listen Fox, it's obvious the font issue is something troubling for you but no need to be upset.  Yeah, it's great that's legible but it's all part of the experience you know?  If you're having too much trouble, there are alternatives.  Ames Tool is one (I bought one but Lord knows I don't have enough time to really be writing out my own text, though it's kinda interesting...).  OR you can just use fonts that have been suggested by people or some ones that have been known to work.  Like here's a few suggestions: Anime/Manga Ace (not my favorite but it doesn't look bad), I myself tend to stick with Wild Words or Zud Juice, (wild words mostly).  Others I've seen other people suggest.  Blambot has been suggested and that's got a lot of good fonts, lots of similar variants too.  I've heard of people using Acme Secret Agent or Evil Genius, etc.  Really, if you see a font you like in other comics, just ask that guy what they use.  It's really a non-issue, and if it's too troubling just go with what works and has been time tested.  If you want people to pat your back, go with hand lettering, that seems to knock 'em dead.

thanks for all the crits, guys!!  I definitely have improvement to make and I hope I get to participate in round 2, because I have some really great things planned.

Fox, your side was great.  You should see it as a compliment that the font is what bothers people the most, since it's an easy thing to fix.

funny colin cause none of them said comic, and two I tried to make it legible so people like you could read it and won't cry about you can read it. I tried being polite but when you start saying cause it says comic means your just trying to be offensive and not actually get that it's NOT COMIC SANS. Maybe you should check the fonts again and then comment on the art at least man I get it I don't do font well. I keep trying and I don't need you to keep bashing on something everyone's already harped on. Come on man give some folk a break.

Legible or not, a bad font is a bad one. It's just too common place, and it has no character behind it. It's hardly different than using Aerial or Times New Roman or anything like that. Just because it says 'COMIC' doesn't mean you should use it for comics. It's sooo easy to pick up a new font and just use it. I have probably 10 on my comp that I switch between for various texts, and I consider that not enough. It's such a small change, why not make it?

garic-I really loved the expressive linework and the blues worked very nicely here. I think perhaps just putting in 1 more tone like a lighter blue or white would have helped make things a bit easier to read. Like page 5 I had a hard time telling what was going on since the characters and foreground all blend into one another and I can't really pick apart what's going on.

Fox24-blambot.com is your friend. I know you don't wanna hear it but dude, you're lettering a comic, not a term paper. Font is not going to make or break a comic in most cases as long as it's legible, but it's part of your overall presentation and something you should still consider (I know I like to harp on fonts, I took many a typography class so that kind of thing is just embedded in my brain now). I think you had some solid anatomy here and the way No Face Girl died was pretty cool. But your action was kind of difficult to follow, like a lot of the entries that have gone up, you have all these way zoomed in shots so I really don't know what's happening in panels like the 4th on page 2

No Face Girl was definitely a character who I was looking forward to.  You didn't disappoint Garic.  No Face Girl is creepy.  Not Pillbug creepy, but creepy and interesting in her own way.  Your style is memorable and I like it.  I think the poses could use some work and when she's holding on to Emotype's fist it's kinda wierd looking.  Like unnatural and kinda stands out.  Where will the chickie go next...

Fox your art was not bad here but still too light.  Still too much white.  I have a vendetta against negative space, though on the opposite end crowding is a bad thing too.  Your first page is probably your best here.  Nofacegirl's characterization wasn't bad either, kinda fun and filling for your needs.  Everyone's reactions are a bit over the top though haha.

Garic - Nothing much to your battle. There wasn't really a story, and while I liked the idea behind the action, I don't think it was delivered very well. With NoFaceGirl's strangeness, you could have played up the horror/strange aspect of it more in the art and story.

Fox24 - The dialogue felt awkward, especially the last line. I didn't really get why the soldiers were distressed over what Emo-type was doing, seeing how they are testing a super-weapon. You could have used some more establishing shots to get a better understanding of what was happening. Your action felt a bit stiff, more interesting angles could help that. Your inks seem sort of faded compared to the computer-generated black, so you may want to bump the contrast up or something similar.

UPLOADED nice and early, cos I had much more free time this week than I thought I would.  Six pages featuring an exploding head, blue gradients and a misused quote from economist John Maynard Keynes.
