Canaan: Some excellent art and action.  Kind of interested to see where the story goes from here.  Also, not to go all "English professor" on you buut...a few things did bug me, like using "then" instead of "than", spelling "savor" as "savior" and "owe" as "ow"  and, you know, for the present tense, "chose" needs another "o" in there..
Sorry, when I notice errors like that, in can affect readability for me.  I'd just say make sure you take a second look over the lettering before uploading.  Nothing major this time around, just gotta watch out for that stuff.
The art doth definitely kick ass :)

amazingdavid:  Browsing around here before joining, I've read a couple of your battles already.  Really like your art style.  No exception here. The story was all about the fighting, and really, I have no problem with that.  Maybe not that original as far as stories go, but it was well done here.  Action and the art kick ass.  Aand, since I didn't really look at the French balloons, 'cause I don't know what they say, can't pick apart the editing..heh  ;)

Really, a sweet battle from both of you.

Vencil: Wow. Someone is going back to how he started here in Void isn't he? Really nice to see (Even though your others styles is great as well) The entertainment was somewhat okay for me. Not totally awesome and not boring either. Can't wait to see the next part in this story ( if there will be one :p) I gave you a little higher than average votes :) )

Flint: Nice and great. First match I've seen you in and now I need to read more!! Your style is somewhat unique (I haven't seen anyone else with this style) and I like unique art alot (Don't get me wrong Canaan, your art is unique as well)but in my opinion the win goes to Vencil, with like one vote higher than yours :)

Overall: two great comics and it was hard for me to not give you the same votes, but Canaan stood out a tiny winy bit more in creativity than Flint. Looking forward for more from both of you :)

Awesome! Both of you! I have to give this one to Caanan2 though, because of the sheer amount of detail and work that he put into this.
Caanan2-*bows down* amazing as usual. Great plot, even if the vastness of it eludes me (I'm not familiar with the woman or the story there, or why spirits attacked) I love your attention and accuracy for detail, folds, shading, effects, everything just blew my mind. Fantastic!
David- your eye is very dynamic. I love how you used a few warm colors in such striking ways. You're a master of anatomy, and I love the shading. It's not as detailed as Caanan's, but the skill is there. Your art is really visually appealing, and though the french through me off at first, I love the line "what's french for 'I'm about to fuck you up'" and Vencil's response. Well done!

caanan, the pencils are nice & all but crushing them & trying to smooth out the strokes would have really made this seemed more polished. but given the pencilwork, the lettering in photoshop really stands out. the black versus brown pencils looked weird & the way the text was formatted (kerning, line-spacing, etc), it looked really cold & detached from the more organic traditional artwork. things like that have to work in tandem, not against one another.

dave, this was great. best i've seen from you thus far. it got a little too loose in spots, while clean in others; but that might be preference on my part. the strong colors really fucking made it top notch though. didn't like the font & the one caption bit with the red on black was impossible to read on my monitor here at work. as for the french, i don't get the complaining. i dug it. there are people on the site here from other countries that have to translate into english & people bitch about their grammar & shit. an english speaking creator can't go & try to give a french character french dialogue in his comic? what the hell? no one needs subtles, as you can get the overall idea. if it's still cheese dialogue though even in the french (or grammatically incorrect), someone like kon should call you on it haha but yeah, overall, real nice. (haha & now scrolling down, i see he did)

FoO-Royce:  but seriously i think you shoulda made the translations available for people if even only in the comments so people could really judge one story against the other. but at the same time. yur story telling was very ace in the artwork alone. but as far as cheesy lines again it was about even.
Quote

It totally wasn't even, because he covered up the cheesy lines by making them French. Putting the entire comic in French for a non-French speaking audience is about the same as throwing it into wingdings or something, only it leaves it translatable for people that looks into it. I used French as a dialogue cover-up one time and just made the shit up so it couldn't be read by anybody. This is a situation where the story-telling is 100% visual and relies on a mixture of cliches and storytelling standards to be told, without any written dialogue. It can't be called a silent comic because they are talking to eachother but it still reads like one, it's clever.

Canaan, great art! the story seemed kinda cliche though...

dave, I was gonna start commenting on you, but then you went and used French. So I am going to continue hating...

sadly i think its workin heheh.. but i think cheesy lines work for certain characters.. and vencil is one of those..hes a oldfashioned goth campy vampire character... a reluctant monster. but seriously i think you shoulda made the translations available for people if even only in the comments so people could really judge one story against the other. but at the same time. yur story telling was very ace in the artwork alone. but as far as cheesy lines again it was about even.

Caanan: i loved your action sequences and camera angles you chose. It was very tasty eye candy, that's for sure. but some of the dialogue you had was a little cliche. other than that, good job C=

David: Blood~!!! i love it. this is your best comic yet. i think you should keep with this style because....well just because i like it and everything came out looking clean >3< and i love how vencil just kills flint and walks off XD

caanan you did a bad ass job man.. sure some mighta thought the lines were cheese.. but vencil takes himself so seriously that it makes sense to me to give him some cheese lines everynow and then. the art was pimp. you always make yur opponents look crazy bad ass. very nicely done.

david, it was sick bro.. i wanted to re comment after i got my girlfriend to read the french for me. and vencil had some cheese lines in there too so i think it evened out a bit. but really i loved both because they were so different and still so strong together. nicely done.. either one will deserve the victory here.

Oh yeah and Vencil was never really evil.  Just misunderstood in a way.  He has always tried to atone for what he was but always seem to cause more harm then good.

See That's what Iwas trying to capture...but uh...I left out the beginning...that's why he didn't kill Flint in the end

BTW Caanan fucing great man...you have these really super congested pages with so much data that it blows my mind...its like your pages can be broken up into 4 or 5 pages...but don't really need to be...(I can't draw as tiny as you do)
My only criticism is that I want more more more more more...I like what you did with Lin Kuei...and now you have solved the problem of what I was going to do to get rid of him...

Alrighty alrighty. Caanan, I really wasn't into this one at all. The technical stuff was there but against as nice a finish as David had it came off as unfinished. The story was kind of nonexistent. You threw a bunch of potential story elements, a lot of them cliched story elements, and never did anything with them. A lot of the dialogue was heinous. Vencil's ultimatum to the evil creature, "Time to take out the trash", "Now die", those are the kinds of lines people write when they're making fun of this type of comic. I understand your area is more art and less writing, and your artwork is great, but you could stand to do a better job on the stories.

David, fucking sabretooth balls dude. This is my favourite comic of 09 at the moment and it's going to be rough to knock out of that place. Your linework was top notch but the fact that you did nearly the whole thing in French is HARD FUCKING CORE. I'm glad I don't know enough French to really get it and I'm ESPECIALLY glad you didn't put in subtitles. You set up probably one of the best vampire vignettes I've ever seen, and took some heavy heavy risks. The only issue I had with this at all was towards the end the colour combos get a little rough and become hard to look at/rationalize, but over all this was fucking amazing. Grade A work.

Caanan-While I've never been a fan of your style, the pencilling and rendering are very well done as usual. (how I feel about your style has nothing to do with your technical abilities, it's just a personal preference) I think you did a nice job on the action and the layouts were very nice. I did have kind of a hard time getting into the story because there was really nothing to pull me in. It's like this took place in the middle of a story and I wasn't really given the information needed to totally follow it.

Amazingdavid-I really liked the style you chose for this, I hope you try to do something like this again in the future. It's still energetic but looks more refined than some of your previous work. The French really didn't bother me but I also took a few French classes so I had a basic understanding of what they were saying.

Zephirius Jixx: Both had very good artwork,
Caanan, your style seems to be quite refined, but not very original, the story builds up quite well, but it leaves quite a few questions unresolved, I guess they'll all be answered in the second part. Also the scripting seems to be a bit choppy, but maybe that's the character you were trying to portray.

David, Loved the colouring, I'm all for the mood, but there's no lead up to why they are there. Since I didn't know french, I went through all the hassle to type in the french into a translator, and even then the lines seemed quite random. The one panel with the cutting of arrows I feel isn't up to the same quality as the rest of the comic. Rest of the artwork was awesome

Keep up the good work, both of you.

Nils K.: hmm i enjoyed both. both were very entertaining.

@caanan2 thats absolutely stunning. i loved the art the story and the conversation. i just never emagined Vencil as one of the good guys.

@amazingdavid good work. very good in my eyes. thats a nice way to use colours. minimalistic but nice.
hmmm the idea with the french dialouge of Vencil is cool but some people don´t understand french so my vote for you on entertainment wasn´t that good .
oh and i don´t see the reason why flint is fighting Vencil

uhm btw that was a two part battle, wasn´t it? Why are your Chars in Caanans battle comrades and in Davids Victims. thats just pity for the story in my eyes.

top notch as always Canaan
and David I liked it but, seriously the French dialogues bugged me to no end, you should have added "subtitles"
is like if I draw a comic entirely in Spanish and thats unfair for the rest of Void.... asides that both entries were pretty good...

Both entries were really pleasant to look at - though I wished there was more to Canaan's story. It ends rather abruptly.

David - your work is beautiful. I absolutely loved looking at it. Unfortunately, I couldn't follow it at all - mostly because of the French, but even then, I wasn't exactly sure what was going on. That might be my fault.

heh...to get rid of confusion...and I totaly forgot this...On pg. 2 theres supposed to be a caption that says "5 minutes ago" ...as for the lead in...I kinda scrapped it I had this huge epic written (because Vencil deserves EPIC!!) but then I realized only this part of the story was important...everything else was just french dialogue...

As for the French...I seriously just wanted to see if I could do it...sorry if people couldn't read it...but I hope that you at least enjoyed the pictures...

Ps: I love the french, some of it was misdone but it was fucking funny.

I really liked both of your comics! Canaan, oh man I'm jealous of that gorgeous linework. *_* Everything's so sharp and clean. Dialogue was also fun to read, except you had a few spelling errors. XD;;

Amazingdavid, art was also pretty cool-- I like the red and yellow hues you used. It's what set the mood, or at least that's how I see it. I think I'm just a bit thrown off by the French dialogue (which thankfully I can make out since I'm learning it) which just seems rather random to me... But that's just me, overall both very strong entries.
