rkarl...I enjoyed your battle.  The pacing was nice, you had some creative ideas, and I like Darren VanRipper\'s design.  I\'ll give you three things to work on.  First, try to throw a bit more contrast into your work to bring the characters out a bit more.  Right now things are clear enough with your line work, but throwing in some thoughfully well placed blacks in the background will just make things pop out a bit more.  Second, you\'ve got decent perspective on the characters like when Darren\'s shooting the blackhole at Ziggy, but try to work on your background perspective a bit more.  The last thing, isn\'t really so much a thing to work on as it is just something that I think\'ll make things look a little better.  If you\'re sticking to pencils, try to use smoother paper like bristol.  It\'ll make your lines look a lot sharper than the sketch book paper.  If you can find some at a comic shop or art store, buy some 11\'\'x17\" comicbook art boards.  They come with the nonphoto blue lines which make setting up your page easier also.  They can run a bit high, but you get like 30pgs to a pack which should last you for a bit on VOID.  If you go to http://www.kubertsworld.com/depot.asp you can buy them there online.  Keep up the good work man.  Looking foward to some more of your battles.
