Quite simply, some shit votes happened at the last minute. Charmy won due to this. However remove the shit votes and we\'ll see that Bslug won fair and square. Charmy also needs to shut the fuck up as well, none of us understood what the fuck was going on in the fight, and fights on void should never have us searching around the web for a translator, that\'s bull shit!
But regardless, Bslug won fair and square. Let\'s focus on Harriet vs the Amazing Lobster boy!

My internet comes back and this is what I return to? People bitch about a comic being posted in the reverse manga style but a whole different language is excusable and fun?
And hell, I must be a goddamn genius to be able to decipher the apparantly baffling enigma of Harriet\'s story.
In summary: Congrats on your win, Charmy. Sorry if I sounded too harsh on you. You better win this thing or the universe will implode.

delya is right imo, if i drew a confusing comic with wild panels people would be mad at me for not making teh story clear, In general you want to avoid taking people out of teh comic. Its not impossible to sell a comic with a foreign language or without words but.
The lack of words made it so you had to tell the story better, but your work didnt draw one in and make one want to translate it, or feel great emotion. If your telling a story where the words are not an impediment, you have to be on point, your story telling and illustration of emotion has to be classic, your overall story has to bring people in and hold them without words being needed, you didnt do that.
You did win by 2 votes, but id say you won more of the hot chick reputation than this particular comic, people just wanted to see your chr go on. That is something in an of itself i suppose, but yeah harriets story was pretty much higher in everyway for my two cents. This one just seemed a bit cliche and unispired. anyhow not that it matters you move foward

I gotta agree. XD I liked Hariet\'s battle more, EVEN if it appeared unfinished, some comics are good with a foggy ending. The story was good, the art was befitting, and personally, I liked the uncertain outcome.
Charmy, your battle wasn\'t bad. I do think you should have translated what Hariet was saying, though. Even if the dialogue would have been guessable - it still would have added to the story.
I realize you might have done that on purpose, and that in some stories, emphasizing the world between both characters works well, but I didn\'t really think it worked in this battle. The story just wasn\'t as good as your normal ones.

Charm, I\'m going to be perfectly honest- you didn\'t portray the actions and emotion well enough to make sense of what was going on without a proper translation.
So buck up and suck it up. Not everyone loved this one.

The Falcon: Haha, well my main point is that most people reading comics here aren\'t going to want to have to go searching for translators in order to understand what they\'re reading. It kindof takes away from the enjoyment of the comic- having to put extra effort in to understand it. Comics are supposed to explain themselves for the most part, they\'re stories written and illustrated to entertain.
That\'s just my opinion, though. Seems some people here have no problem reading German. XD

These were both good battles in my opinion. Though I do have to give Hot Chick the higher vote, mainly because of the story. Now, that\'s not to say that Harriet\'s was bad or anything. It\'s just, I pretty much had no clue what was going on at all through most of it, and especially at the end. I mean, I\'m not even entirely sure how HC dies, or if he even does, as it doesn\'t really seem like it.
Either way, good luck to both of you, and we\'ll see who wins tonight, I guess.

Jumpin\' jehosefet on a stick, the battle is tied at 50-50!! What happens then? Is it a tie that causes both of them to die, with ALB winning the tourney by default?!
I think I ended up giving Harriet the higher vote, but maybe it was HC, I can\'t remember... ^^;
In any case, this is hot, and the next round (whoever ends up winning) better bring the MG-GAME if they want a chance of living.

Delya: \"A lot of translators really fuck things up when you try to use them. I\'ve used translators and just left the site even more confused than when I arrived.\"
Did you try http://babelfish.altavista.com/ or http://translate.google.com/ ? They both give pretty decent translations of the text in Charm\'s comic (provided you feed them complete sentences, though, and not just fragments). Well, except they couldn\'t translate the word \"Muti\", but that\'s only because it\'s a typo—it should be \"Mutti\" (mommy). (An mistake easily made, by the way, since \"Vati\" (daddy) is in fact with only one T.)
Actually, that is exactly where most translation programs usually fail: typos. Unfortunately, if you don\'t have at least some basic knowledge of the language in question, those are of course impossible to discover. :S

Also, German isn\'t a common language in the States. This site was created in the US and it (obviously) uses English as it\'s main language. If you\'re going to do a battle in another language, you better make sure your readers can understand it. =P

And heck, I\'m definately not going to put down some nonsense just cos I wasn\'t going to translate it; The idea was, if you translate it it\'ll make sense, if you don\'t translate you\'ll have to go by emotion.
You\'re all a bunch of lame punks for pointing this out so much. :C Holler to the people who liked it without translating.

Bslugeth: i like your characters\' story more and have since the beginning that\'s why i\'m dissapointed you tried to throw in the towel. Fact is i liked your story and artwork better and i think you deserve to win.
Charm: while i don\'t care it wasn\'t colored there was nothing in you work to make up for not coloring nothing to really fill it in and give something more. it just seemed as if you just didn\'t have time to color. also the untranslated german really kills it for me and even though the text was nice (after reading the translation) i have to take it for what it is which is untranlated. seems that the hot sauce finally got to this chicken.

So, just for the record, to clear up any misunderstandings: I thought it was a *pity* most of you couldn\'t make anything of the German.

overall, i\'d say it was good work from both of you... but i did get confused near the end of harriet\'s story, i guess that was supposed to be fire, but i\'m not sure...
anyhoo, i wish i could have taken back my vote just for the fact that i think i was a bit harsh on bslugeth\'s side of thinks... but hot chick still took it in my book, mostly for the cleaner visuals.
as far as reading german is concerned, i actually had a feeling of what was being said... dispite not being able to speak a lick of german... i used to have quite a few \'straight from japan\' manga and i enjoyed them a lot without the knowledge of the japanese language.
basically, if you plan out you paneling, angles, lighting, etc. well enough, you can still tell story that crosses the language barrier. something that i felt charm is pretty good at. well, bslu is good too...

I totally agree with Kami on this one. The fact that Charm was without color- was okay with me since they have wonderful lineart. Both are infact a little confusing storywise. I could understand BsLuGeth\'s better however. Perhaps with this German character (if she survives)- add subtitles sowe can better understand whats going on? La sigh. My vote is going to be a mixed one.

Falcon-One question, How is it petty that someone\'d be confused by something they cannot read? I can\'t and will not speak for anyone else but I know that if I cannot read the dialogue in a comic, alot of it\'s impact is going to be lost on me. :/ Even with emotionally striking artwork. I\'m just going to go \"Oh.. sad stuff happened. Well that sucks.\" and move on.
But anyway. I have to give this one the BSLuGeth cause to me, it was a little more clear what was going on. I was disappointed that the ending just kind of leaves you to guesstimate the outcome. It\'s really obvious that Charm\'s fight, detail wise, as far as the artwork goes depended heavily on color. There\'s lot of frames that seem very very open and empty. Wasn\'t digging that at all. I may not be a comic making master but as a reader of comics, I\'m all about presentation. Though I do understand that shit happens.

I noticed a lot of commenters couldn\'t make heads or tails of all the German in Charmy\'s comic, which is a petty, cuz I thought it was pretty good. So, if anyone\'s interested, here\'s the English translation of Harriet\'s monologue:
For years have I tried
to find you.
I leave my home, I risk my life.
Just for you…
Daddy!
Why do you continue to reject me, daddy?!
Is it just because… I\'m your daughter?|
I will show you, daddy…
I will show you that I\'m better…
than any son you would ever have!
Mommy left me with grandpa.
Grandpa only cared about planes.
Daddy tried to kill me.
But you…
You stayed with me through it all.
We will never part.
I love you, Zickel.
For years have I tried
to find you.
I leave my home, I risk my life.
Just for you…
Daddy!

This one was very hard for me, not just because these two are my favorites for this tournament.
Slug, your illustrations were great as usual, but this has to have been the worst pacing you\'ve done with your entries. Crucial plot points for your character just aren\'t coming together well in this installment, and as many have pointed out, you didn\'t kill your opponent. Ultimately, I felt spectacularly meh reading it.
Charmy, I\'m soooooooo bummed you didn\'t get to finish this entry. I would\'ve liked to have understood what Harriet was saying, but at the same time, I can appreciate it left as is. Hot Chick isn\'t getting the benefit of understanding German, so why should we have an advantage.... That\'s how I\'m looking at it at least >.>

Charmy, your lineart is always good, but you didn\'t back it up with some solid colors or shades, so i had to mark you down there. Also, I dunno if the plot point of HC hatching Zickel was planned out between the two of you or not, but in your fight it really felt contrived, like you were pulling it out of your ass. You beat Sluggy by a point in Entertainment, but only because she didn\'t finish her story.
Sluggy! WHAT IS GOING ON? I mean, is that supposed to be the end, or what? Did you just not finish? How does Hot Chick die in this? Aside from that, you won out in Quality and Creativity. I love Harriet\'s running story, but make sure we can understand it when you present it, please!

Great on both sides. My only complaint was that once again as everyone else mentioned. I don\'t speak a lick of german. Except my nickname. With is garbled german and probably spelled wrong.
But you managed to make me feel a bit sad at the end Charm, even without really knowing what was going on.

Battles so great I think its the first one I\'ve ever been forced to critique.
BSLuGeth: Wow. I think we\'ve actually found someone who out-tear-jerked Charmy. You gave Harriet such a horrible past it\'d make Darth Vader cry. You also did a good job with keeping Hot Chick\'s character. The scene with him by the tombstones is great. The only fault is it seems like you threw in the chips a little too early. However I\'m dying to find out how Harriet gets out of this one if/when you win.
M.E. Charm: Now I like to stay unbiased when I vote so I actually sat down and took the time to translate every text bubble. I have to say that it was a mistake not to translate Harriet\'s lines as they certainly add some more umph to your story. Your linework is as good as ever and the only problem visually is that you made all of your previous fights colored masterpieces and make this one feel a bit undone. I consider you a king of storytelling on Void so I was disappointed when I saw Harriet enter the fight screaming, guns blazing. You left out a beginning which you\'re good at (esp with that Fragile fight). However the rest of the story was good.
My vote goes to Harriet Glauben for this one.

Very good fights from both artists
Bslug: Really impressive looking comic, I don\'t understand why you doubted yourself in the first place. Artwise you\'ve got the vote from me, storywise I really enjoyed this. Only thing I have a slight problem with is that hot chick doesn\'t die in your fight. Regardless, I think you had a great showing this round.
Charmy: Artwise dude... you\'ve done a hell of a lot better within a week. Storywise this was pretty good, but the least you could of done was translate what she was saying. Only thing I can really pick appart is that the tear jerking factor of this fight was really low, that or I\'m being an uncaring bastard

Both of these were quite heartful. We know about Harriet\'s father and Zickel\'s true origin and real name. But somehow, Charmy\'s story was a bit more understandable (besides Harriet\'s speeches that is), so his gets some more credit.

Slugger, make Charmy suffer. Everybody\'s rootin\' for him, but that doesn\'t mean he\'s won, and that doesn\'t mean he definitely WILL! You\'ve been doing this longer, so GIVE IT ALL Y\'GOT!
Oh yeah, good luck to you too, Charmy. XD

The only real losers in this case will be Zickel\'s and Hot Chick\'s poor adopted chicks; either way they will have to live the rest of their lifes without one of their parents.
