Charlotte's life BRANCHES from Gray's. When she was 18, Gray went to a doctor to see about a procedure that was supposed to develop her budding psychic powers. A resulting explosion 'killed' her, and the rest is Void history.
Charlotte never made that appointment. Thus, she never 'died', and continued her life unencumbered by Gray's many emotional and mental health issues. However, she also never developed her psychic powers- as such, she is weak and graceless with them, lacking control. Her powers have the potential to be as great as Gray's, but she spends little to no time developing them, and mostly lives as a normal human, her meta powers practically an embarrassing secret.
Charlotte is a devout practicing Catholic (though with modern understanding of some of the Bible's flaws and mistranslations; Charlotte has a love for all people regardless of what some older generations may interpret from The Good Book). She is virtuous, patient, sweet, generous, and even-tempered. She volunteers with her church, teaches Sunday School, and resists sinful temptations.
However, if there is one flaw she shares with Gray, it's that extreme emotional reactions can trigger her powers. While Gray can aim or temper her psychic displays, Charlotte lacks the control, and can cause grievous harm and damage with her unchecked powers.
