Thewkhangkbon: Loved seeing Claude and the Nomad talk to each other here! Seeing Nomad just deck Nohuron like it's nothing and act so casual as the Winged Behemoth save him from getting eaten was such a good bit of characterization - it really helps show that he's been handling kaijus for a while now, and for good reason.
Roradraws: Nohuron altering herself to mimic the Behemoth was a super cool twist! Love the composition on some of these panels, too - it helped give everything a good sense of scale.
Doe: As always, I love how creative some of your panel compositions are! The setting that you chose and designed for this looks absolutely stellar, too - I've only seen it for just a single comic, yet I already want to know more about it. I love seeing the little hints of Claude and Roel's backstory as well, and how that ties in with his current feelings.
Nohuron has been defeated, I'll be dropping a Beyond that re-contextualizes the comic's ending so she is not successful in defeating the other two. The multiverse can breathe a sigh of relief, the queen has lost.
It was a pleasure facing off against @DoeFR and @thewkhangkbon! Seriously. The comics you all made were incredible and I've learned a lot. Can't wait to see what you both do, and thank you so much for the opportunity.
Your world building has been super interesting for this tournament! The art is also so spectacular, I think my only nitpick would be that the Nomad felt a little out of character, but I know that sometimes it happens while making a story! Lovely work!
Seriously, are you three superhuman??? It's also funny that they all involve the two duos teaming up against Nohuron.
Definitely the darkest of the three in terms of tone, and that gave this an engaging emotional core. Very intriguing sequel hook, too. The way you used color here is very striking, with each palette mainly consisting of one color with some contrast.
Gorgeous comic! The use of motion blur here is really striking, especially combined with the standard comic motion lines. The fast pace of the story matches perfectly with the pace of the action.
Your last comic set up a very high bar, and I commend you for continuing to live up to it! I'm amazed you can get out so many full-color pages in just two weeks, and they're absolutely gorgeous. While the story is so-so compared to the last comic, you were also working with different constraints, and you delivered a lot of fun action. You really took advantage of each character's personality and feats.
This one was really hard to vote, I was moving the bar up and down, these 3 comics had I honestly had a hard time deciding because they were really close, and honestly I don't know what should I critique, there's obviously points of improvement on all of them, but I'd need to look at them slowly and very focused to take my time and write up something useful, which is something I saddly didn't have a lot of this week.
What I'm saying is that all of you did an outstanding job, congratulation
OKAY I'M OBSESSED WITH THIS COMIC??? The action is SO good, I love all of the worldbuilding you're doing, both with this floating Greek-ish society AND with the organization Claude and Roel work for. The body horror at the end is INSANE and very well done, and the way the red flesh forms the panel borders whenever Claude and Roel are at the station really sells the idea that they're always being watched and under the control of these ruling beings. Also, I love the "not only is all of reality at risk, but even worse: our RULE is at risk!" Excellent character writing! I also love that Behemoth and Nomad know exactly what Claude and Roel are up to (builds well off of their presentation so far as being mysterious but seemingly very knowledgeable and powerful beyond what you might assume), and the way their benevolent desire to save the world compares and contrasts with Claude and Roel working for an evil entity and having very difficult thoughts and feelings about their work and the people who get involved. I love how upset Claude got when Nomad predicted he would become just like "THEM." Good expressions can tell you so much about characters, and you're nailing that storytelling! I'm just so blown away by this! Now it's time to sit and wait as patiently as I can for more fantastic Doe art :D
This was a very fun comic to read! Getting to see The Nomad in action is a special treat. Makes me want to know how this seemingly human friend got so strong 👀 I really enjoyed all the dynamic angles and intense action in this comic, and want to see you push your art even further! I think there are places you could experiment a bit more with panel layouts, exaggerated movements, foreshortening, and other techniques that help comics feel larger than life. This was a really fun comic and I'm excited for your next one!
VERY COOL FIGHT!!! Nohuron modifying her body is such a cool and terrifying power. I'm not sure if Claude and Roel felt quite in character, but having them compete with Behemoth and Nomad was a pretty clever way to even the playing field so Nohuron could get a bit of an upper hand. I think I would have liked to see the other two team up against Nohuron from the start even if they didn't fully trust each other, and maybe the distrust creates an opening rather than the other two kaiju outright fighting each other? The more I can connect with character motivations and how they drive the action, the more impact your comic is going to have on me, and I think that goes for a lot of readers! Nevertheless, I thought this was a very fun and action-packed comic, I enjoyed the variety of angles and switching between long camera shots and close-ups, and overall think this comic is a step in the right direction! Your last comic was great, and this one is better, and I can't wait to see what's next! Also thanks for featuring the Technodome; it always makes me smile when other artists find it an interesting enough location to make use of :D
This story you are sharing is top notch! Hyped to see what comes next.
Can't believe the improvement from your first comic to this one, congrats!
I really like your style and action man, so easy to follow and so pleasant to the eye.
This was the hardest round to vote for a winner, respect to you 3!
Congratulations to all three of you for delivering the most kaiju-flavored battle of the round, with all three submissions. This kaiju fan is feasting
@thewkhangkbon
I will be brief as you requested no crits, kudos for being able to deliver another full color comic for the round
@roradraws
You've improved on every avenue from the last round and that's great to see. The surprise of Nohuron's adaptation for the battle was a great new twist that kept the fight fresh. You did a good job showing how formidable Nohuron is. The sound effects especially are on point and should be noticed by others. Keep experimenting with line work, you still have some ways to go with word ballooning but there is an improvement. If you keep improving like this with each new battle it's gonna be wild how your work will look a year from now
@doe
Yes it is still a kaiju comic! Your worldbuilding is absolutely engrossing, you were able to seamlessly weave your opponents into your characters' universe to great success. I have my theories about what the memories are hinting at in the end, consider me hooked. It does feel like you stretched yourself a bit with this submission: For as vivid and imaginative as the compositions and paneling are, the lineart is rougher and looser than last round's. Time probably got in the way of refinement, but I know you have it in you under ideal conditions, and am hungry for more on the world of Claude and Roel
Damn, what a round!
Thewkhang, your action shots never disappoint! Really liked pg10 especially.
Rora, wasn't expecting the copy ability from Nohuron, that was extremely hype
DoeFr, love how your comics contain such a compelling narrative, leaves me wanting more
Truly inspiring work from all involved
You all did such a fantastic job in two weeks time! These were all such great reads!
Finally in the right professional headspace to give my comments! First of all you guys really popped off, You three did an outstanding job. in this round 2 entry the three way fight really stands out the most cause' not only are these visually stylish and clean but also the contrast of the story too, and it works perfectly well as 3 different scenarios.
Thewkhangkbon, your comic is incredibly clean and your unique artstyle made it worked. The fight showing that in a 3 was fight, a helping hand for one of the combatants helps finishes a type of fight that prolongs in terms of attrition, unity is all it takes. Behemoth's special divine attack in the 3rd act makes the perfect conclusion! a good ending overall and an intriguing cliffhanger.
DoeFR, in this three-way fight your story here stands out as the most intriguing, from start to finish the fight is well made, a coordinated fight to stop a living nightmare sets the mood that Nohuron is truly an existential threat and poses a stronger antagonism in the story. The portal sequence fight is the coolest thing I've ever seen here, and Claude being morally challenged by the Nomad at the end is so compelling, shows that despite even their unity in this fight, their fundamental differences is still there. The ending makes me excited for more future works from you!
Roradraws, your comic works so well in the PoV of Nohuron, although the comic initially began with Claude and Roel as Nomad and Behemoth came for the save, Nohuron displays how truly dangerous she is when her cunning nature is fully utilized. I've always looked forward to the unique ability it was hyped up and to see it finally shown was jawdropping. This is a win that favors Nohuron because even a lack of coordination is shown, her element definitely works best when all enemies are at eachother's throats, and that is the fighting chance Nohuron needed: Unity is too late, and their synergy is disorganized. That small fracture is all it takes.
Nohuron's enemy making a team up is nice! Unity is the most fascinating thing to witness, BUT since the match is essentially supposed to be a 1v1v1, your comic follows the true three way fight because the 3 were not picking sides, and this proves that it takes real team play effort to truly defeat an intelligent nightmare like Nohuron.
Really interesting story, I love seeing how Nohuron adapts to her opponents! The art was quite good too, nice work!
Lovely work, I really enjoyed how a lot of the fight was taking place in the background! The colors you do for comics look great!
I can’t believe the drawing time was only 2 weeks? You all did an amazing job and I am very impressed!
You've got a very clean artstyle and it's been working well for you so far, especially with your clearly well thought out panel compositions. I know you've tagged this as not desiring critique but I think it really needs to be said, you really should learn to draw eyes. For a lot of your own characters its no big deal, and the red Nomad especially works well with this particular stylistic trait, but on Claude it doesn't feel quite right and honestly the lack of actual eyes on Roel is pretty jarring
This is a very solid action comic. 3 way matches can be a challenge to integrate all 3 characters into a plotline but that seems to have presented no problem to you (or any of the members of this battle, honestly). Managing to balance all three characters so well and still find time to expand upon Nohuron without it feeling out of place or forced is definitely a feat.
You really pushed this match-up to it'd limit with this one! Fantastic use and integration of all the characters, that that ending is a direction for Claude I absolutely was not expecting
you three are NUTS. all this work in just 2 weeks? absurd.
I prayed to the OCT gods that if I got eliminated in round 1, that I wanted to see the Nomad and Behmoth vs. Claude and Roel. and they answered my prayer. then they put a cherry on top by making all 3 possible dimension hoppers interact. of course, if I REALLY want to see what would happen I should just make my own commic about it.
each of y'all's takes on this play of characters was interesting in its own right! I'll get y'all your indivudual crits in a bit!
This. This was INSANE. You did some of the most impressive shit I've ever seen with a teleporting enemy. You really took advantage of her gateways and unpredictability in the movements. I also LOVE how you depicted the inside of her void dimension, you definitely read up about her and how she's constantly stashing body parts in there so she can continue growing. The fight choreography was insane and the dialog fits both speaking parties! And oh my god, this extended lore with Claude and the other scientist... I WANT MORE!
I loved the weight and impact of the hits in this! It almost feels like Nohuron is feeling out the battle with Behemoth, figuring out what works and what doesn't! That final hit that looks like it's cracking reality made my jaw drop! Every panel made me salivate, good job my guy!
Funny how you made Behemoth's enterance literally getting his arm biten off by Nohuron and Roel lol!
The way you made Claude attack Behemoth, then use their banter to give time for Nohuron to digest Behemoth's arm and mimic his style!
Finally the ending. It's interesting how you made Nohuron escapes *wink*.
Even after the fight was over, there are still scenes exploring deeper into the story, and whatever Claude may have to deal with in future stories is intriguing!
Lastly, THE FLOATING ISLANDS! How beautiful it is with your art style! The civilians caught me off guard lol, but it's interesting the stuff you came up with the environment.
The way you carry the narative from Claude and Roel's perspective towards to eventual teaming up with Behemoth and Nomad, is incredible. Then immediately Nohuron showing up, ready to rumble.
I'm amazed how you illustrate the combat scene, as they were changing locations/dimensions. The choreo and the progression of the fight is so well done. Behemoth is struggling a lot to help Roel and dealing with the red world is fantastic.
Another comic that I didn't expect to go this way. The fight was so cool, the colors are very nice and very creepy as it goes on. Really enjoyed reading this one!
Oh I was not expecting this battle, genuinely terrifying of a character. She's so menacing, loved reading this comic!
Very exciting!! Im still amazed how you are able to color everything in such short time, looks great.
Very exciting!! Im still amazed how you are able to color everything in such short time, looks great.
A 3 way!? And the 3 opponents are solid contestants, good luck all.
Holy shit this is an extremely hype three way!!! I can't wait to see what y'all make!!!
