Doe: Love the paneling and characterization throughout all of this! This was an incredible visual treat (especially the first page, lmao). Loved how Claude got hung up on the crowd not liking his speech and how much both Claude and Roel care for each other.
Rikun: Ape just chugging down a beer truck like it's a can is an incredible visual gag, lol. Him just chucking it at Roel got a chuckle out of me.
As a Florida man and appreciator of classic Disney animation, I have to applaud you for designing a comic that seems to have so much going on under the hood in its design choices. Familiar architecture of the theme park aside, what actually blew me away started on page 7 when the battle starts playing classic Disney animation tropes to a T: The climactic thunderstorm that elevates the final battle, the use of red in moments of darkness, I could almost hear the classic dramatic orchestra of the older animated movies, with strings and brass punctuating strikes on screen. If this wasn’t intentional it’s quite fortuitous.
Going forward I would like to see the strong compositions and colors backed up with more refinement in the lineart and some effects like action lines here and there. But besides that there’s a lot to love here and it’s one of my favorites of Round 1
@ Rikun
As you requested no critique, I will simply comment that there are some panel ideas I liked here, as well as the idea of drinking a beer truck like a beer can.
Your artwork is very fluid and gives a lot of weight to the action. I actually think the sketchiness of the lineart helps with making it feel loose, although some more polish could be nice for sure. Solid panel structure as well; the slantedness helps them to not feel so static.
Well, this was wonderfully hilarious. Loved the cover, first of all; it caught me off guard. The story itself was also a lot of fun, with fluid action and a breakneck pace throughout. You made the most of the setting, too; loved that King Kong reference with Florida Ape climbing the castle.

There's a reason the statement "Don't judge a book by its cover" exists and this comic is proof of that. I didn't know what I expected by the cover but after reading it, I gotta say I love how straight to the point it is with what plot you had going on here ahha. Very charming.
As for the comic itself, it was a very fun read! Very wacky beginning as expected with Florida as the main setting. Find it funny how nonchalant the crowd appears to be until the kaiju make their ~dramatic~ entrance. Love the action scenes going on and really enjoyed the portrayal of Stink Kong (Florida Ape) in your side. Page 8 and 9 gotta be my favorites cause I love all the ACTION going on in those pages. The beatdown and shockout? *chefs kisses*
The only major critiques I had were 1) some of the panels sometimes blended in with the borderless panels, which can make it hard to read sometimes when there's the same color going on and 2) the thunderstorm that occurs in later pages felt a little sudden, to the point where I was like "?? where did the rain come from?". It fit so well for the conclusion scenes that occurred afterwards though, so its not unwelcomed, haha.
Seeing Roel all beat down and in not great condition made me feel so bad for him. Knowing more lore bits about him made me feel even worse for both him AND Claude. I definitely look forward to seeing what more you'll bring of them •ᴗ•

Damn now THAT'S a Kaiju Clash!!! I'm so impressed by this comic. The cover was a masterpiece, the worldbuilding both in terms of the visual storytelling of your backgrounds and in terms of the lore developed between Claude and Roel as well as hinting at their relationship with larger powers at play... all PHENOMENAL. I'm taking notes on how you showed combat between the two, showed how powerful they both were, the way their footsteps cracked the ground with every step. The bond between Claude and Roel seems central to their stories, and I'm so excited to see more development of their story! I'm a little sad that we're in different brackets because I think bringing Claude and Roel together with GRAVEYARD SMASH would be incredibly interesting... maybe we can make it happen anyways someday?

Drug abuse is a serious condition and I'm sick of seeing it used as a punchline. And in this comic, that seems to be the ONLY punchline. I'd like to see art that come from things that are more personal to you or that you've experienced rather than characters and stories based on pop culture references, stereotypes, or just things in general that you don't have a deep enough understanding of to treat properly.
With that out of the way, I do always appreciate when you put effort into making art, and I appreciate that this comic, although unfinished, at least tells the whole story. There were some fun cartoony expressions in there and I think you should lean into those even more if you enjoy them! I just want to see what Rikun art from the heart really looks like, whether it's a serious story or something comical like this.
Doe, this had me laughing from the very first page. where were you when Rikun was asking for help naming this guy? Stink Kong is definitely the correct title.
the poop handstand unlocked a primal memory from my childhood. Roel's little sad eyes made me feel so bad for him like
Didn'tey def needs to have the piss taken out of it more and I didn't realize how cathartic it would be to see its attractions torn up. and the king kong climbing the empire state building reference got me laughing, again.
after that, you seamlessly switched tone to a more serious take. I very much want to see the next installment and find out who these guys are!
my one negative is that you drew the ape a bit too appealing-looking. it would do the character justice to make him a lil more repulsive.
but gosh
as an intro comic for your Kaiju and friend, this one takes the cake! LOVE it, dude!

Rikun, I feel like I'm not allowed to laugh unless I have a friend from Florida to give me the pass. ;,D
With that out of the way, the art direction has a lot of character and Florida Ape has some nice acting in his poses to support it. your story is coherent and follows similar beats to Doe's end. I'm going to pretend that this is just the same day's events as recorded from Florida Ape's perspective.
Very interesting comic, you did a lot more than anyone could have rightfully expected! It was a fun story and the similar color schemes creates this fun effect with the colors that you made them really pop out with. I'm excited to see more!

I'll be honest, the concept of Florida Ape is very distasteful to me.
Moving on to the comic, I wish there was more to it than rough sketches because there is potential. I am glad you uploaded what you had though so your opponent was able to see their character.
This is just a good old fashion monster beat down in the Kindle of legally distinct corporate funland. I have to commend your ability to fully lean into your opponent's trope, I don't think I would have been able to do the ape justice, but you didn't shy away from it

Damn, this comic has it all, from the hilarious cover to the brutal action and compelling narrative, I am hooked start to finish. Seriously impressive work DoeFr. All I can say is keep it up what you're doing

That was dumb... in a good way, it was easy to follow and showcase the things these Kaijus can do. I think when you are able to find a nice system that can help you through the process of making a comic, cause I do feel here you wanted to tell more, pace yourself and don't be afraid of taking risks, this is the perfect place to do that!
There's so much to like in here, the colors to set different moods, the interaction of the inviroment, the change of scenes within the smae city, the framing of the panels.
It's really hard mor me to find something to critique, maybe the lines could've been more clearer? still that's a preference not really a critique. This was really good, haha!
I'm actually gonna grab some of the elements in this comic for my future battles!

I feel like the cover of this comic, into the actual comic itself is just, perfect. Was not expecting that, genuinely a great fight sequence, beautiful colors. Another great comic!

I feel like this is your strongest comic yet!
This one has a raw and energised feeling!

Holy Rikun! I didn't expect this kind of polish and story with a "funny" character like Florida Ape, I was impressed by this. Awesome stuff man.
It's impressive that your sketches are this clean, it was easy to understand the story.

Rose and Snowy pretty much stated my main thoughts about this side.
Good job getting a comic in at least.

Their first mistake was making landfall in Florida.

It's insane seeing such incredible work in 2 weeks! Another banger! Loved the entire thing and that ending was a superb cliff hanger!
Silly and short, I absolutely adore what you accomplished in so few pages!

WOW, really impressed by the quality in only 2 weeks. The color schemes were also so good. Really great job!!
Didn't expect the story to be this serious. It was a desperate battle against a crazy monster! The art, flow, atmosphere are magnificent
Man don't mess with the ape!
The cover was funny but I do love how serious the story is
I love this little short comic and how silly it is
