These were fun as hell guys!! good job to you both. The quality is pretty impressive on both sides of this match and i enjoyed them to bits!!
Footini: Thanks for including Nagore in your story! The back and forth of past and present events was handled perfectly and was easy to follow, your coloring and shading/spot blacks were beautifully done. But i gotta say, Dairyu is just too ooc in the "present" events. I can't picture her shouting something like "WHADDAFAK" or saying "meowdy" to answer a phone call. For a down-to-earth character she loses her composure way too often here so these moments felt off to me, but it's the only critique i have.
Snowy: Since you're done with crits i'll just repeat myself: Your comic was so fun to read!! and the quality impressed me a whole lot, especially when Dairyu decides to fight Cryptid in her dragon form! The way you draw monsters is so *chef's kiss*
It's always a treat to read something from you Snowy!
Thank you all - I don't need any more crits for this battle. While I appreciate the time taken out to make critiques, it's starting to get a bit overwhelming with how much the comic seems to have been done badly on my end.
snowy: a lot of the panels of this fight are quite striking! however, i don't think they really come together here. for one, the classic choice of setting the comic in the Platonic Ideal of an Alleyway, in addition to the lack of real characterization of it, and also your tendency to avoid wide shots, or at least wide shots that are aimed away from the floor, there's not a lot of sense of place or positioning in this battle. when action does happen, i'm left very confused what's actually happened. page 10 is a big one for this: what is cryptid clawing? i have to assume it's dairyu because of the liquid, but we have no idea where on her. which is a shame; i love the LOOK of this page in the abstract! but effectively, very little's been communicated with it. then, in page 11, i can only take richter's word that she's being slammed into a wall; since she's already against one and the following pages don't really change this, it's difficult to read this in a way other than her being swallowed into some mound of cryptid flesh. nothing else is that especially nonindicative, but it did take a second read for me to figure out most of the comic.
footini: i actually really love the structure of this; i suppose the last tournament has been a practice run in nonlinear narratives, and you're hitting it out of the park here. there's a surprising lot of catharsis in seeing cryptid defend sammy! i guess the only thing i can say is that it doesn't mesh super well with your comedy - which, admittedly, meshing them is a difficult thing to accomplish, but i did feel like it sort of undermined it.
so both comics went and tried to explain an antagonism between the cryptid and Dairyu.
Snowy's version is more of a classic VOID confrontation with people meeting by chance (and very good greyscales) while Footini's version is rooted in deep history.
I kinda liked this version of the story more.
Also, You rocked those cryptid visuals, dude.
Edge for quality to Snowy, Edge for creativity to Foot.
Monster forms monster forms!!
SNOWY: Ahhh your inks are gorgeous as always, and I love your creative compositions! you really make the panels part of the art. the ship as always is adorable though i confess im confused by "stole my cats" guy, he a bit came outta nowhere. The fight scene was badass, love your use of shapes.
FOOTINI: Your colours are getting so GOOD! i LOVE the lore of having cryptid and dairyu be ancient rivals, thats creative. I also love how gooey Cryptid looks. Not super sold on some of the writing choices, Dairyu feels a bit hostile here, i never saw her as one to snap at people. You draw her very cute tho =3
Both of these are awesome reads and honestly it is hard for me to choose a winner on this one because they both have amazing artstyles, fun stories to read and keep a good pace. Truly a battle of Titans on EnterVoid!
I've been looking forward to these.
Footini, you always deliver on the laughs. I love Gus wearing the goggles on the scooter. Love seeing the comparisons between the past and present encounter.
Snowy, thank you for including so much Rickter!. I love the greyscales and heavy blacks you did. It fives this comic such a good feel. Thos light spots of yellow help set the mood
Footini, I gotta say, this has to be one of my favorite comics from you yet!! Touching on Dairyu being an ancient being, as well as the cryptid, was a very nice approach- and the flow of the story kept me hooked! Ending was simple and sweet, not a neatly wrapped bow but one nonetheless.
Snowy, these pages were absolutely STUNNING!! The dynamic in panel structure was incredibly inspiring and the yellows amongst the grayscales are always a *chefs kiss* touch from you. Not to mention the transformation sequences are getting better and better everytime. Seeing more of Rickter and Dairyu is a treat as always too, very comfy comic, I adore it!!
YOOOOOO, these were amazing very very good reads. I will do a more in depth critique soon , but for now i just wanna say thank you for telling such cool stories! Just by a hair i gotta give this one to FOOTINI i love the past and future trope and you handled it surgically.
SNOWYMOTH visually stunning work
