cy: thanks for the review. I was trying some new experiments with how to quickly throw some colors on when working with another artist. If I couldn't get the magic wand to circle something, I gave up. But I can imagine things might have looked more finished if I'd added more blocks of contrast.
Snager + Kent - Really great opening page, very dramatic, and I liked the concept of Oleander sending Cornelius to track down this cult, knowing he could find it, before swooping into kill them all. It did feel kind of incomplete though? Even discounting the page without colour, pages like 3 and 4 seem to have the base background colour laid down, but no colour for the characters. Having said that, it made for a cool effect on page 5, like the shock of Oleander's betrayal had sucked all the colour out of the environment, or that her light had blasted through the shadows.
Mints - Damn dude. This was fantastic. Character studies and deep interactions are my shit, this somehow managed to feel real and intimate, but poetic as well. It's really hard to put into words how much I enjoyed this, but yeah, awesome job.
Snager + Kent - an interesting, fun blend of styles and some decent comedic moments. This one was enjoyable!
Mints- I was really rooting for Cornelius in this comic, his harsh words to Oleander made me want to cheer. I'm a fan! This is also my first Cornelius comic, whilst I did get the context for certain things, I understood the emotions behind them and I think for this comic that's all that really mattered. Wonderful job on the visuals as well!
These were really cool! Poor Cornelius just doesn't want to be stabbed ;;3;;
Snager and Mister Kent: Page 3 stood out to me because of the transition between the 2nd and 3rd panel, placing Oleander and the cult leader in the same framing while covering up the cult leader's face with the word balloon. It was almost a comically good shot and I love that kind of creativity. I liked that the cult seems like they're just misunderstood when Cornelius comes in ready to fight, and then they turn on him right when his guard is down. I feel like you got the reader's guard down too, and it made it all the easier to feel betrayed when Oleander turns violent.
Mineth: I looooved Cornelius' lines after Oleander forces "mercy" onto him. It was such a good "fuck you, your philosophy is trash and you're a soulless monster" moment. Like I can imagine Oleander getting a sinking feeling in her gut hearing him yell at her. She's not doubting her judgement, but something in her got swatted down and chipped at in that moment, and I feel like this interaction will stick with her.
