Thank you everyone for reading and for your comments! It's greatly appreciated.
Camel, once again you really nailed it; I'm a big fan of yours. Fantastic work.
zee: ugghh this entire thing is so dang tasty!! the story is fun and dynamic, leads to a lot of incredibly nice scenes and shots, you leave behind void city entirely for space adventures which is something i 100% support, the way you've been experimenting with your style is pushing something i already thought was top-notch EVEN TOPPER-NOTCH! there's not a single quality of this comic i would not describe as excellent, zee why are you so good
camel: ooooo this tale is wonderful!! i definitely wasn't expecting horror but i am very glad to see it. this comic's mood is so well established by your choices in shot and color! honestly big fan of using a predictable panel setup like this, i think it really gives the content itself the ability to shine, and of course you deviate from it at choice moments. this is supes solid and professional!!
Zee: Your colors are so bright and vivid! Such good angles too!
Camel: You did a great job building up the atmosphere in yours! Love your use of shadows!
Oh my god these were both just, incredible reads. To produce such quality but art-wise and story-wise in such a short time too? Wow. Fucking loved them, this is gonna be such a tough vote.
Zee - This was truly a delight to read. I enjoyed literally every panel. The colours and lines are great, Grey is so expressive and fun to watch, and all these other alien designs! Damn!! Especially love the crab-like one. I honestly didn’t find any issue with the pacing, you edited well as it flowed very smoothly for me.
Camel - The sense of dread is amazing here. I get the distinct impression that the device isn’t just infecting Grey’s ship, but his very mind, as he tries to push his luck further and further and hide things from the others. I liked this grid format and the spotblacks, I think it made things feel more claustrophobic or urgent, and I loved the purple and red palette. Though I do agree with Pyras that unfortunately some panels looked a little messy.
@Zee: Your pages belong on the stands, idk why but I missed the punchline because I was expecting there to be something hidden inside the deck of cards
@Camel: The Dave Gibbons energy is strong, this comic's pacing and color choices were so good that it was frustrating that some shading looked good but other panels looked very rushed and sloppy
Y'all are titans
ZEE- Your futuristic space environments and passion for sci fi really shows in spades in this comic. Everything from the simple panel fo Klepp running into a dynamically angled hangar entrance to the space pirates space parrot hoisting him up to catch Grey's ship were handled with cinema grade action. It's always such a treat to get your comics on void and I certainly cant wait for more
CAMEL- Love love LOVE the grid panel layout! I think the use of it added some eerie pacing to your tale. specially the spooky encounter with a shadowy klepp in the darkness of the ship. I was actually kinda sweating moving to the next grid! I will admit that there were some sequences I wish didn't have exposition. I think Grey arming himself with his gauntlet and sneaking down into the hold in the dark in silence would've really upped the dread factor. Also what is Klepps deal?? That backpack! I MUST know more!
Zee - You have truly come a long way from where you started here on void and this was a marvelous testament to your experiences. Good stuff.
Camel - The mood was spot on throughout this entry. Using a grid panel layout worked pretty well for this and you really followed through with it. Very cool!
Both of these comics were quite impressive! storywise and colorwise.
Even more impressive that you could produce this much in only two weeks.
Good job to the both of you! you guys are on another level!
Oh my god I love both these comics 110%.
Zee: I love your style, its so whimsical, and thE COLORS. LOVE. Also I adore the story, it felt like watching a saturday morning cartoon, lol. The dynamic between Grey and Klepp offsets one another so well.
Camel: asafsdaf This whole story had so many eldritch vibes and that is 110% my vibe. Absolutely love the story writing. And good use of shadows.
But now I'm kind of scared of Klepp now.
AWESOME COMICS IM SCREAMING YOU TWO ARE AWESOME BEANS
These were such a delight to read!!
How anyone could cook up something this good in just 2 weeks is beyond me. I'm seriously very very impressed by the amount of super talented and skilled artists on this site-
Zee - Your colors and inks were phenomenal! the paneling is so nice and easy to follow. The character interactions were really sweet! This might sound a bit weird, but the placement of your dialogue bubbles is -heavenly-. Same with the compositions on every single panel. Lovely!!
Camel - The grid comic formula is very interesting! It definitely gives your comic a very different vibe. Loved how eerie and mysterious Klepp appeared in this! The shading is absolutely gorgeous, too!!
I had never done a proper grid comic so I experimented with that this go around, we'll see how successful that turns out to be. All in all, i'm quite happy with my comic, and I'm really stoked to have been able to battle one of my favorite Void chars. Lets go!!
I had a lot of ideas for this one but after being away for so long I totally underestimated how much time these things take and thus… poor script vs time management. A good number of pages had to be omitted and panels moved around, so I apologize for the awkward pacing and general nonsense. I hope what made it out is enjoyable enough though, and thanks for the battle Camel!
