Ok, so I gotta say, I really like Julz’ play-by-play style of critique, and I appreciate her brutal honesty. I agree with her impressions, but as I was reading Julia/Abigail’s side, I wasn’t distracted by the sparseness of or lack of detail in the backgrounds, I was invested in what was happening. I think the apparent laziness in the backgrounds may have cost you guys this round, and it’s too bad, because I so wanted to see where this was gonna go! It’s still my favorite comic of this round. Hope to see more of this unlikely duo soon!
Congrats to Gregly and Bloombeard on the win, can’t wait to see what you guys do in round 2!
Vidkets- Wow this is a very intriguing story!! Ahh I love how this pair teams up!! XD Page 4 1st panel is so lazy geez cmon XD You forgot to put lipstick on Abigail on first panel pg 6. Man, I just love how lazy you get with Bruja's face/eyes. She looks so psycho. BGs are practically nonexistent alot of the time. ABIGAIL WHY?!? Agh that is one way to catch a criminal :/ Bruja made the right choice teamin up. Man page 11 is so good, it really makes up for the quality of the previous pages XD All of those expressions are just killer!! SEriously love this page.
Bloomly- Ah interesting dynamic of these two, tho I suppose eventually there may be some trust issues :x It is very nice to see full color. Ah I just love the dingy look, especially on page 2, a great way to really drive the setting. Dude, what is up with scout for real. She does not listen. First thought is straight up murder, no questions asked XD damn. If I was Boris I would just leave.
These two comics are some of my favorite comics of this battle and I really enjoyed both teams, great job for both of you.
Video/Pockets: I enjoy how you establish an overaching plot for this, Though this does result in having less time to establish the other characters which is unfortunate since it doesn't feel like your opponents contributed anything unique to the plot and could have been replaced to with any of the other opponents. However I think what makes it all work and pay off is the dynamic between your two characters having not been pre-established and also with the thief being the one against killing I really hope to see how this moves forward. I also relaly enjoy the art and the expressions in this. Video I love your comics and it's good to see and pockets both back doing stuff on void.
Bloomg/Gregly: The humor was amazing in this comic, every joke landed. Also the dynamic between the two was fun. I do feel this comic also had a bit of the same issue were your opponents didn't get to do much and were just pushed over, but there was an explanation and a bit of a fight that had the element of using Boris as a swinging weapon was cool. I like your art style and it's awesome to see an artist and mostly writer team be able to do 8 full colored pages. The backgrounds were also really well done in this. It will be interesting to see how you will follow this up if you go to the second round and what other things Scout may have Boris do for training.
Video/Pockets: I love that you establish the overarching conceit of the tournament right away, giving everyone the same McGuffin to chase for their own reasons, that’s really smart. I also love that your magical girl team isn’t actually a team! I can’t praise your plot setup enough, it really hooked me.
Your expressions are top notch, I love the way all these characters act, but there are several panels where body proportions and poses get hilariously bad, like after Julia successfully talks her way past Abigail, and they both go off down the hallway. But overall, I was more impressed and entertained by your characters than anything. On a writing level, my only minor gripe is that your opponent’s were dispatched a bit too easily, so if you make it to round 2, try and challenge your girls a bit. But here, the main goal was establishing the conflict and tension between Abigail and Julia, and showing just how in over her head Julia is. I love what you’re doing with this comic, and you’re easily one of my favorites to win, now. I just really want to see what happens next!
Bloombeard/Gregly: Great establishing shot of the gym on page 2! The dialog was amusing, and I really like your use of little arrows pointing out details, especially the magnifying of the character in the window, and you worked this style choice into the gag at the end. Your comic does suffer from the same issue as your ipponent’s in that your opponent’s characters are just pushovers, here, for the sake of a joke. As funny as it is to see Scout just punch Julia to death in the background of a panel, it does feel like Abigail and Julia didn’t really do anything in this comic. And as funny as the ending is, you haven’t set up any plot threads that I’m anxious to follow into round 2.
VIDEOPOCKETS - ooh. some of the expressions in this are really good, but in some of your angles and such, the proportions and such suffer a little bit. Overall it was a very fun comic, and I kind of like seeing that these girls were not an established team at the start of this comic! It was really refreshing! The Violence vs non-violences is a really good overarching plot too, I definitely want to see more.
GREGBLOOM - WHAT I DIDNT EXPECT ANY OF THAT WHY IS IT FUNNY IM SO CONFUSED, THIS WAS ALL A BIG MISUNDERSTANDING hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Okay so basically i love this but i have no idea why, please help.
