Don't mean to be a dramatic hoe but I think this comment is long overdue.
It's been a nice few years and I've met a couple of great people and artists on this site and Void really brought out the potential in me that I didn't know I had. I really am grateful for what the site's given me.
But I'm done.
I expected disappointment over defaulting in the final round (which is something I really wanted to avoid for any tournament/battle), no matter what excuse I threw towards at you guys but I've had so many issues with not only the tournament but the site and community overall that has been building up for the year that all it took was one comment for me to call it quits. Criticism, I can take but disrespect, no way. I'm still be turning something in for SS but that'll be it.
If you think I'm overreacting, maybe I am but I made up my mind and quite frankly, I'm not willing to sacrifice my health for this site again when I'm trying to get my life back together. If you've got things to say to me, you know where to find me cause I'm not gonna logging back in.
Peace
Camel I hope you can find the time to finish this! This was super moody and I absolutely love all the scratchy blacks and dramatic lighting!
The both of you kicked butt through out this tourney!
yo, drama put aside, everyone who participated in this tournament killed it! Ya'll are great no matter what the outcome is here.
Also...
DALE WILL FUCKING PREVAIL. The end
Logging in a final time to say: please look at yourselves. And by this, I mean the people complaining at the incompletion. Please just think for a few minutes.
You're saying for them, for us, to spend almost 2 months, during the busiest retail time of the year, to submit totally complete work? To forego health and family and work to finish all of this, during the most stressful time for both commute and work for many of us?
I understand the argument that in the art field, you need to meet deadlines, but here's the thing: Void isn't paid. Void doesn't pay bills. Void doesn't grant you any work exposure, outside of meeting peers. It's practice at best and exposure at worst. IF anything, doing Void, while fun, is wholly irresponsible if you have bills to pay.
So, to tell people they're undisciplined, when they had a job and SAID THIS REPEATEDLY, for not submitting tons of free work for a hobby site is ludicrous and I hope you can reflect on how you treat others this holiday season.
I'd yell more, mostly about how this line of thinking and inconsideration for people having lives and bills is a major detriment to the site, but I have to go to my job, which I've prioritized over a free comic site.
Happy holidays.
It's a shame life happened on both sides but it did, When things get all better I hope to see more stuff from both of you since both of you do great stuff. Camel i love these AUs you have been doing in this tourney and hope to see more of that in your future battles since it's really refreshing to see different takes on the characters. also that inking style is super awesome.
I have to admit, I was kind of mad when I saw the state of this final round, and I didn't want to post it haha. But honestly, I don't think anyone can really understand just how busy/stressed out/drained you guys were from everything going on in life, and it's unfair to make any assumptions. I'm disappointed at the result, but I understand the effort that you guys put into this whole tournament, and sometimes Life Just Happens™
Thanks for all your hard work, and I hope you learn something from this, whether it's better planning like Hellis suggests, scaling back like Camel hinted at, or just that sometimes shit happens that you can't plan for or control, and that's fine.
@Hellis I understand about the disappointment but can you legit tell me that anyone on this site can plan for being called into work on their off days? Plan for their cars breaking down? Plan for their family to spring events on them suddenly? I do not really think anyone can. These comics on this site, are done in free time. None of us get paid for these. It would be completely different if we were. Hey, even a professional can have things come up to where they can’t get their work done in time.
I really do get that since this is a tournament, everyone looks forward to the finale, but life always comes out of nowhere with something hard to deal with.
Burnout is areal thing. As is life cutting into your time. But when you commit to something, you should be aware of that and pace and plan your stuff accordingly. Not doing that, is worthy of criticism in itself. Especially if you want to make art your profession. While I would not word it like heathen did, I agree this was disappointing. Especially since I know both artists are capable of great stuff.
@Golden @Heathen
personally, i'm okay with Heathen expressing disappointment. Facing criticism due to things out of ones control, i believe, makes one a harder worker, because it's a risk one takes any time they enter a battle of Void. A constant stream of "better luck next times", without any criticism, can lead to complacency.
That being said; Heathen, i know it's subtle, but i think it's rude to put "Fukuro: (blank)" in your critique. She gets it, trust me, you don't have to rub it in. I know it's subtle ,but still.
Hey cut them some slack Heathen, it’s not a fart noise. I know this is a tournament, but that comment was completely unnecessary. That’s kinda disrespectful to the effort that, while unseen, was put in. This month is difficult for a lot of people, between school, family, holidays/retail, and many people have been getting sick.
Nothing like ending a tournament with a long, drawn out fart noise.
Camel, I love how you recast Dale and the Gravediggers as human characters, and despite knowing there were only two pages when I opened the comic, I instinctively tapped the screen to turn to page 3, only to have an incredulous scoff escape my face as I glanced indignantly at the page count in the upper right of my screen for confirmation that no, I would not be seeing where this went. I'm just gonna straight up say you owe me, man. I want to read this comic!
Fukuro:
I'm sorry to hear things didn't hash out for the both of you. What're the odds of that? I think all of us who've hauled ass on an intensive multi round tourney know the feel of burnout though. Better luck next time!
I too have bad news, my last round really cut into my schoolwork and with this round being during Finals week, i had to focus on that, and with an overly ambitious script, this comic is very incomplete. But i would love to do these characters justice. Fu, you rock.
I really hate to do this for the final round and after submitting TWO incomplete comics but I gotta default this round. Finals week and work have both been draining the hell out of me and I just don’t got as much energy as I used to do. The best I could do is turn in my thumbs but tbh, no one’s gonna be able to read them.
I’m really sorry about this, Camel. I really wanted to do something nice with your boys and hope you don’t mind the comic on a later date when I get my shit together ( •́દ•̩̥̀ )
