Thanks for the comments, Kozi! I really appreciate you taking the time to offer your advice, and I think I'll take it. I told Lukia I'd challenge Bilikis once I was done with this battle, so I'll try giving myself some breathing room with that one.
Regarding the art style, that's just due to this comic being done digitally, whereas his intro and the Jessie Valley one were done traditional on bristol. The Procreate iPad app has a very distinct look to its brushes.
As I said below, the first and last page didn't upload, so yeah, you're missing some context. The lack of dialogue doesn't help, either. But hopefully it'll make some sense when you see the finished thing this weekend (It'll be uploaded well before that, but I realized the 1-week BB deadline locks it into that release date regardless, so).
By the way, I had a funny gag idea for a confrontation with Mimi a while back, so I look forward to using that sometime.
Dino- So glad to see more of this nefarious nogoodnik still doing his thang. Even being a little funny in his pursuit of Koosh besides! While you've only just begun your glorious VOID journey into battling, I'm noting the fact your battles are coming out unfinished. I also see you started off with a one week battle and in this one you've bumped it up to two weeks. I think you have a good handle on what you can accomplish now that you've familiarized yourself with voids deadlines. Why not try a month and a small story to see if you can complete it start to finish? :)
For what you have, it looks really promising, but then again your intro comic and incubator work also showed off some beautiful inking skills and detail. Though when I compare this to your intro there is a definite change in quality. I'll admit I wasn't too sure of the story or reasons for conflict in your side of the battle. I'll chalk it up to the default 'chance encounter? fight!' trope most voiders implement. I wanna get further peeks into Smile's personality (if any) and his motivations, but thus far it seems you're more invested in exploring your opponents personality. Show us more Smile behind the mask. Figuratively speaking of course!
Hey guys, thanks so much for voting and commenting.
Nothin: Super fun scene, man, I love that first shot of Koosh running through the doorway, and your use of Smile's hands. It's funny that we both included Koosh running from The Smile and saying "Whew, I think I lost him!", and then hacking something up. And of course, I love the ending, because gangsters gotta mess with eachother sometimes.
Now, about mine! Yeah, this comic was actually finished, with inks and tones on every page (of which there should be 6), and word balloons, and all that jazz. But I was out of town with only my iPad and a slow-ass wifi connection to work from, and let's just say I experienced some technical difficulties with the upload process. Basically, what you see here are 4 of the 6 pages I (was pretty sure I) uploaded, in whatever state of completion they were in at the time. Well, once I finished the pages, I went back to replace these ones with the final ones, and no matter what I did, I couldn't delete the old pages from the upload box. The little trashcan was just un-tappable. And those huge pages? 706 x 1000 according to Imgur. I guess my iPad thought they should be larger? Fuck if I know.
Anyway, yeah, I'm bummed, but look for the finished comic as a Beyond Battle here in the next day or so. Since I'm not on a time limit anymore, and I'm back home where I can access Manga Studio, I'm gonna redo the dialogue balloons and touch up the tones and backgrounds a bit before I upload it.
In the meantime, anyone who's trying to view my pages, such as they are, you can right click them and "open image in new tab" to view them at the proper scale. Y'know, if you care to.
Thanks for the battle, Nothin!
Kichi- I liked this! a nice complete colour comic, little light on the backgrounds but very entertaining! I liked the story, the idea of these two scumbags previously knowing each other and playing card games is quite an image! I liked the bit of yellow for the mask. this was simple but effective!
Dino- I kind of cant read yours?? The page size is monstrous- I can read it a bit better in the thumbnails ^^; the black and white looks amazing and I enjoy the way you draw Koosh, cartoony but still fitting into your world. Was there supposed to be dialogue, though? Its cool looking but I cant follow it much. Im not really sure what to say about it, but your inks are as nice as always! I hope next battle is a little easier to follow!
Nothin: Nice comic! I enjoyed the lineart. It's thick and it fits your character just perfectly. Also, nice work for a monochrome comic. ('cept for The Smile's mask. But okay)
I liked Koosh's expressions throrugh the comic, and the set up of the lighthearted story was alright. Good job. :)
Dino: Aw man. This looks incomplete and I am not entirely sure what is going on. :( Are Koosh-Koosh and the Smile partners? But then The Smile betrays him and gets him in the van?
Also watch out on the size of your pages! :O
The art is really nice, so I hope we can sometime see something complete from you. I like your character!
