I also should mention that I feel really shitty for having next to nothing to post for this or any battle. I am passionate about making comics, and I hope to make a career out of it some day. It's clear that my ambition is overtaking my skill and time management.
I'm not going to come back and battle here until I can get back into the groove and make complete short comics.
I'm sick of being a disappointment to everyone on this site and myself.
I'm not giving up, though. Thanks for the honest advice, everyone!
Obviously things went very wrong with this. We are continuing to work on this as a collab BB, and it will go up as that ONLY AFTER we finish the pages completely.
Bobo: Yeah, it was really strange. I guess the easy fix for the problem right now is to make 100% sure the pages that are uploaded the first time are the correct ones.
EVERYONE: I am taking an extended leave from battling on the site while I settle in to my new home and job in Boston, but also so I can find my drawing pace. I can pump out rough pages with solid composition very quickly, but my finished art takes a while. I'll have to figure out the pacing that works best for me, and stick to 4 and 5 week battles in the future with under 7 pages, I'm guessing. I clearly can't trust myself to make good battling decisions at this point.
Pocky: I know how to write a script. I write chunks of action with no dialogue to get the pacing down, then I break that into individual pages and write full scripts. These early rough story outlines are meant to be seen only by me, so I can be as messy with them as I want. I don't care what they look like when some one else reads them, because 99% of the time, no one else does read them.
I can promise that you will never see the back end of my writing process for battles ever again, so it's not really an issue. I have plenty of completed scripts for past battle that I could show you.
Also, the story outlines that were posted here are not mine, they are alberto311's. I didn't write them.
Bent no more scripts >:I 10 pages isn't bad for 4 weeks, unfortunately crap happens, but the script doesn't do anything for anyone. A To Be Continued black page actually would be preferable to the script. I do think you should take a page from GPS-Device and other artists who can do a good comic in a very short amount of pages (and sometimes very short amount of time). Your art is beautiful when finished, and very detailed, that last bit being both a boon and a bane. If you could manage 3-5 page comics in all your complete colored glory you'd be delivering solid.
alberto you should have uploaded the pages anyway >:I even if they came out looking funky, it's better than a default, always, in my opinion. I haven't forgotten that we got a Gigara vs. Rebel Roach comic to do, either, so let's see some work!
Hope you guys are able to deliver next time, don't sweat it, dust yourselves off and just keep moving forward~
Bent. Scroll back up to the top of the page. Look at the logo. There are two words on it. READ THEM FOR ME WILL YOU. Take special notice of that first one.
If you're not going to finish your comics, fine, but stop with that script bullshit.
Bent: The first two pages looked promising enough, but I'm not sure putting in scripts after what you could get in is gonna really win people over. I know, I have some really bad time management myself, but I noticed the script thing in the comic against Jethro as well, as much as I didn't want to point that out there.
Alberto: Hope to see your comic as a BB soon. Also, I don't know where to find a 11x17 scanner. At least not one that's inexpensive.
Alberto311: I use an 8.5x11 scanner and photoshop pieces together every time i have big pieces. There's a bug on my Photoshop that doesn't allow Photomerge to work properly, so I get the job of doing every piece manually. Regarding colors, if you weren't desperate to keep the colors maybe scanning it in greyscale would have been the other option.
TheBentOne: Is your intention at the end a synopsis or a script? There's no indication of dialogue, yet everything is described how you want things to be specifically. I'm not a heavy reader, but here are some ways to make it work a little better (although i'd highly recommend you stop doing this in the first place).
-If it's a script: Write everything in third person. No 'we see blah blah', we're reading a script we're supposed to know. I can obviously see it, I'm reading it. No excessive dialogue, or it gets boring. Just get straight to the point, with dialogue.
-If this is a synopsis: make it shorter. Synopsis is a brief description of how it begins/ends. Not every detail and explanation.
-If it's a story thing: Please, just don't do that.
Sorry BenT One for the uploading issues. I'll diagnose the problem and give the system a little love as soon as I have a chance.
Both of you, I know shit happens sometimes, but I wonder if you could have turned in something decent if you had just edited down your plans and done something short and simple. Ben, I can definitely see some good composition going on in those two pages, and your finished stuff is always great, so I hope you can keep that in mind for future matches to make sure you have a result you can feel proud of.
Sorry Bent and everyone else. I got the ten pages penciled, but my scanner would not scan the pages correctly. It scans inks right. But color is all jacked up. Strange. Sucks. I'll ink then post as bb. Anyone know where I can get a 11x17 scanner cheap haha. This one will only work on my 13 yr old PowerBook (os9). Yeah time for a new computer too. So frustrating.
This is depressing. I'm in the middle of moving to Boston, and getting all the parking permits and shit lined up (not to mention getting a part time job lined up) ruined my time management on this. I do have roughs that I will upload tonight.
It looks like after this and Game Night 2, I'm going to have to take a break from VOID until I can get my life under control. I'm sick of never finishing my battles and disappointing your guys.
The BenT One:
alberto311:
Are we going to see The Rob Leifeild clone 90's art? That would be awesome!
At least for the cover. I dunno if I can pull that off for the whole thing.
Haha! Yay.

Mister K E N T:
Very excited to see you both in action!
Thanks Mr. Kent! Looking forward to some Beast on Roach action... (Ewwww that sounded kind of sick.)
