Ah yes! I see the lines on Page 3 Bec! Since the paper was too big I had to scan it in pieces, and that's where that comes from. EEE I'm usually able to erase them all! I'll try to be neater next time :p
I loved both of these! Both were really well executed and were very entertaining.
MisterKent: I love your crisp linework and your dynamic panelling, really nice use of blacks and greys too. The only thing I would say is be careful of your levels in some places, like on page 3 in the middle panel where Nyle is flying out to meet Special Friend - there's some pencil lines showing through there. That is like SUPER nitpicky of me though, heh. Overall I loved it, short and sweet. :)
Bobo: Aahh you rock the traditional. I love how solid the colours are, but they still have that wonderful traditional texture to them. The Friendzone is a really neat idea and I love how you designed it. Aside from the perspective being off in places, as someone already mentioned, the only other thing that threw me off was the highlights you used in some places, because you have no shadows to balance them out. The bit that stood out to me most was on Nyle's desk on the first page, where the light is shining on it - I didn't realise it was light at first because I assumed you were doing the whole comic in flats, and I just thought you'd missed that spot out. But overall I loved it! Nyle is too cute.
MisterKent: I always like your linework! I agree that it felt cut short at the end but it was pretty concise and nice regardless!
Bobo: The zit page was really gross! I like all the bright colors you used for the friend zone and the scratchy panel borders. The overview shot of Void City was really cool too!
oh man bobo this was a brilliant first fight, Nyle already looks so fun to play with, I want to fight him too! And like many others, I'm so super sad that Special Friend is dead! T.T Both comics did end at a sort of "awww but what happens nowwww?" point but there was a lot of great story in what pages we saw! Also the dialogue! "this looks gay." "gay as in happy?" "no." XD my review is incoherent and all over the place sorry lol. I have a lot of FEELS.
Atomicfish:
Bobo- Great colors, bro. I was eating when I got to the back zit page...so my appetite is dead.
I want to fight Nyle with the goth girls, it's a must.
You're on!
PS--Sorry about your appetite, although I'm glad that it had that effect on you. It means I did it right :)
Aw man, you guys!
Kent- Hilarius. That is all.
Also, I agree with Kinu and Kura.
Bobo- Great colors, bro. I was eating when I got to the back zit page...so my appetite is dead.
I want to fight Nyle with the goth girls, it's a must.
Sorry to give you blue balls Fed :(
Also, I'm so looking forward to the next Speed Resurrection Tourney!
I forgot to mention Bobo's colors--Bobo I think its really cool that you keep to traditional art on the Nyle comics. I think its one of the elements that makes Nyle probably the most exciting new Void character in a while :)
XD Fed you actually compared our comics to a porno? I was kind of planning this comic as part 2 in a continuing series (which I just realized means I should have put in a "To be continued..." like I did in his intro).
By the way, I do plan on using Special Friend as a recurring character, with Kent's consent...
Bobo: I really like this Nyle character (his big ears especially), and the comic shows great promise, the "friendzone" is wonderfully designed and the "fade" to Void is elegantly done. The big letdown is that it ends there, a wonderful build-up with no pay-off, just a "oh, I woke up in my bed"-moment.. I would've loved to see the story drag on for a few more pages.
MisterKent: Good solid work, but you make the same "mistake" as Bobo, cutting off the story before any pay-off has been delivered.. Like a porno without a moneyshot it makes the viewer feeling unsatisifed.. IMHO anyways, both of you could have benefited from dragging on the story a bit more. Oh and the pun made me cringe inside, but in a good way :P
Good job guys! Enjoyed both of these! I must admit, it's gonna be hard to not associate these characters together from now on.
Kent-a-Burger: Dude, I was super thrilled to see your layout. It was certainly more exciting than standard box panels. And again, there is nothing technically wrong with them. It's just cool to see some new panel shapes from time to time. And I must admit, I didn't really find anything too bothersome about your comic. I'd have to be nit-picky to come up with something, and I don't do that. Just keep doing your thing, bro.
Bobo Shake: Man, im digging the way you colored this. Reminds me of old school comics, back when everything was traditional. And your bgs were super cool! The friend zone had a beautiful, yet eerie feel to it. And the panoramic view of the city on page 5 was done really well. My only piece of advice to you would be to watch your perspective. Some of the buildings had lop-sided windows that didn't look as great compared to the rest.
But you both did great. Looking forward to our inevitable battles.
Holy crap bobo my original story draft started with Nyle and action figures! I seem to be mindreading my opponents lately :p
Love the "Friend Zone"! I'll be using that. Also, I think my comic is actually a natural continuation of yours! great minds think alike I guess...
I can't wait to see what you did, Kent! I'm afraid all of my panel borders are pretty straight, but I'm trying to break out of my mold, too. Just putting the finishing touches and then mine will be up!
And thank you, Kent, for challenging me! Special Friend was the perfect opponent to start of Nyle's story in Void City. :)
Tried to break free of boring straight panel borders this time! EEEE Hope my comics will be more exciting from now on!
Thanks for the battle Bobo-- I hope Nyle dreams of Void for many comics to come!
