I specifically went back to search for this battle after it was talked about in the VOIDcast. I am so glad I did. both sides of this battle were so strong in similar areas. you two seriously brought it! I only wish I'd been around to add my votes to this.
MISTER KENT- I am quickly becoming a fan of special friend. He's like VOIDs everyman. He just has the fighters of the city figured out. Are they all that as transparent? transparent as S.P without his armor on? oooo! I especially LOVED the fact you could see Mammon's reflection in special friends helmet as he's calling himself a freak. How very visually symbolic. Great linework as well-just everything about this comic I totally ate up.
MAGISTELLE- Poor Mammon. This comic totally had my heart melting for him. He's so frustrated and angry, but for arguably legitimate reasons. Nice he had Special Friend to help with all that venting. As always, beautifully rich colors and angles, but your environments and settings could do with some characterization. Oftentimes they come off to simple and sterile.
Mags: I am loving that cover, so retro!
Holy gods this has to be the best comic I have seen you done to date. I am loving almost everything about this.
You made Special Friend speak in exclamation marks! Which was wonderful, it's those little details that really nail characterisation. If you push that further in other comics, you will make your job so much easier when it comes to conveying character.
You are really pushing for those backgrounds here, except for page 2 (with good reason considering dream scape and all). Sometimes you lose the perspective a bit, especially in pages where the background is not the focus. A good example is when Special Friend goes to grab the boxing pads, that floor is misaligned from his feet.
Your colouring is also a little flat and bland, it lacks the vibrancy that some of your earlier works had. Are you using a low opacity black brush to do shadows? Because that's what it feels like, and you should really be using different colours.
Your build up in the therapy session of Mammon getting angrier and angrier is done very well! This is actually my favourite part of the comic. Sometimes you lack some force, such as when SF cataches Mams big, skidding across the room punch. I also love how you have characterised them with their body language, super cool.
That city feels lazy in comparison to the rest of this comic though, try and find other ways of doing mass buildings like that quickly, the rectangle tool isn't great. Sometimes you focus on characters too much, when SF disappeared we didn't see him disappear, as he could just be out of shot. I'd have had the focus on the area, with SF missing from quite far around Mams.
That punched up anger room is awesome though. We need more stuff like that in Void comics.
Careful with drawing cracked gas, it's a lot more angular and asymmetrical to how you've depicted it.
And yeah, I'm with Kura on that Beo thing.

Thanks for the crit on that, Kura. :'O I'll admit that was a blurb on my part; initially, the shots were different and arguably more coherent, but I just couldn't make them work. I'll keep your words in mind!
just wanted to point out mags, that Beo's suddent reaction shot totally threw me off. Beo was not in a previously established shot and only appears after mammon starts yelling about the phone call...which then makes me question where the heck beo is in the house to begin with. this could have been handled in many different ways:
1. You show mammon walking past a sleeping beo on his way to the phone to establish that where beo is sleeping. (which makes it seem like beo is a heavy sleeper so much that the phone doesnt wake him up, but mammon's shouting does)
2. You cut to an outside view of the house when mammon starts yelling, then the next panel an interior wide shot half asleep beo looking at mammon like "dude what the hell it's 4:00"
3. Beo woke up from the phone ringing instead and angrily wakes up mammon in a "why is someone calling you at 4 in the morning, seriously." kind of way.
Great entries, guys! Both were quite interesting!
MAGS: I see that you've gotten better! Mammon was quite expressive (good thing, of course). Even though its a little thing, I liked what you did with the lighting of the lamp in Mammon's room as well. Your perspective, however, on things like Mammon's bed as he sat up were a little off; and I think more environmental shading would help make the backgrounds a bit more interesting as well. Also try using slightly thinner lines for the background as well. I really liked the dialogue too; I could honestly feel a bit of Mammon's resentment. So overall, great job!
KENT: I think Special Friend is a very interesting character, lol. The fact that he and Mammon never actually fought was a pleasant surprise. I definitely didnt see the whole 'meat suit' thing going on under his outfit; that really caught my interest! One thing that did bother me a bit however was the fact that the color suddenly stopped, only to be seen again a few pages later, briefly. You could also try including more backgrounds in your panels, as well as refining the ones in the huge panels(they need the most attention). Other than that, awesome job! I feel almost like both you and Mags were on the same page!
AWW I love that Special Friend is helping people with their issues, even from beyond the grave! (We almost gave SF the same boxing gloves too!) I love your colors, Magistelle. Very successfully done!

UGH MAMMON YOU BREAK MY HEART I don't even have any criticisms of either comic right now other than making me want to hug a fictional character! XD Great work guys! And Mags, your backgrounds and colours are looking super! (and omg some of mammon's expressions pffffft) Kent i liked the "fangirl" gag XD he does have so many! lol I'm in a good mood now
