I have to agree with BenT on "WHY IS THERE NOT MORE?"
I'm sure the both of would have done more if you could. These were both awesome.
Tofubeast: the Hawaiian Hero is going through some rough stuff. while that sucks for him its a pleasure for the rest of us. Future stuff is always entertaining if done right and you sir have. Good stuff.
Poketmouse: I was looking forward to seeing to seeing Merrik in action and you delivered. Who your heroes are really say something about you and choosing M-zero for Merrik was a great idea. I'm lovin' you traditional style, keep on being awesome. Good stuff.
I got to the end of both your comics and wanted more. WHY IS THERE NOT MORE?
Tofubeast: I love the feeling of doubt the Ehren is dealing with in your comic. Should he be a hero at all? Is it even worth it? CHARACTER DEVELOPMEEEEEEEEEEENT!!! I was also loving how you used Merrik's knowledge of VOID's future to sneak in some foreshadowing. Future M-Zero-Oh looks BADASS.
Technically, your storytelling is good, I was able to follow along and you really did capture the emotion you were going for. Your lines are nice to look at and go well with the story, but I feel like you could spend some more time on them and get them looking cleaner. Also keep practicing anatomy and faces (something we all need to do.)
Pocketmouse: I thought it was interesting how you came to a similar story as tofubeast. not that there's anything wrong with that, if anything it was fun to see that Merrik's hero happens to be M-Zero-O. I also applaud you for going for the more emotional story, but i feel like some of it was missing. I can't put my finger on why. Possible because of the simple dialogue.
I like your traditional style a lot, but you need to work on backgrounds. the city buildings were just big blocks, and the background fades away completely in the second half of the comic.you might also want to try to get blacker lines in your panels, a lot of the linework seemed to be opaque and greyish. I know that's because you're using a brush. I'd recommend after you get to the point you were at in inking/coloring your comic in this battle, go back and just use undiluted india ink and go over your lines.
Good reads, both of you!
Great job both of you~! I just want to say that the story/character development really stood out to me the most from both. It feels like both of you had the same basic idea, but I loved how you both took it in different directions.
Tofu - I like how M0o was dealing with his regrets (ie really using his backstory to grow him) and how it wasn't just about being a "hero" for him but about his homeland. I would like to see a little more setting/background, but since it was heavily character driven I didn't notice so much. Especially since you drew them at more interesting angles at the right moments to keep it graphically interesting. Page 7 seemed a busier and could have been split into two I think. It was still a really clear and easy read and I think it was paneled well/paced right to convey the story just right. (ie: I rather like the "Merrick had the biggest fanboy crush" panel for your choice in angle.)
PokeMouse - I love the colors~! I really liked how in exploring M0o's "growing pains" in becoming a hero, it showed what sort of person Merrick was: well time-traveled so he knows that even his heroes don't exist suddenly as "perfect idols". I think normal people would have gotten mad to see their hero hurt people in such a lame way, but Merrick knew what was important was the core of M0o's character and that his hero will still become great despite mistakes.
"Heroes don't take baths!"
Aw both stories are really nice! I like that both of them center around heroism.
Tofu: I like your line art and layout style.
PoMo: I like that you draw your comics completely (mostly) traditional, there's so much life and personality to it.
