Arena vs Drednaut vs GIGARA vs The White Dwarf | All-Together Now! 2010 Round 1

I think I'll be continuing this story exclusively for tournament matches(provided they fit). It's a good way to keep the Trend of random new characters. I was trying a more frenetic, reckless style with my strokes for this comic, less meticulous than arena or Gigara comics normally are. Unfortunately it didn't pan out into a solid look as far as everyone else is concerned because it looks more unfinished to everyone else than anything. An easy way to remember arena's lip color is that the top lip is colored the same as her hair. The bottom lip is plain. This is au natural for her.

Thx for the crit Pyras, as I stated before, I enjoyed drawing Arena, she is a very cool character. I would deff like to include her in more of Dreds future comics. I will nix the red lipstick in the future. In retrospect, I included it to balance the color red on the page. It would be cool to see you finish your comic, The concept of writing the characters without their powers is a good one. I didnt think your entry was a polished and finished as I have seen you do in the past quality wise, but the fact that you drew 19 pages in two weeks between both battles is impressive to say the least.

drawdan: This is the best 'vs. Arena' comic that an opponent has drawn on this site, and you deserve to win fully in my book. It has a wonderful, if retro, balance of the story elements that make comics fun to read. A superficial criticism is the red lipstick that Arena dons in this comic. Funny enough, where some people start to wane in quality near the later pages of the comic, your later pages are actually better than the first few, both in detail to backgrounds as well as figures. I think Yui Lee suffered the most in the comic; her anatomy/proportions, compared to everyone else's, feels very sloppy. And yes, Arena will go out to dinner with Drednaut

No, if that were true Park would have transformed when White Dwarf started chasing her, and probably woulda burned the entirely island down. No one has any powers in this story. It makes zombies more threatening.

Pyras, I take it that your comic takes place in the GIGARA universe you talked about. Interesting. It reminds me so far of what Marvel did with the Marvel Zombies.

thx RolfQ, I appreciate the nice comments. I did enjoy this battle, I have wanted to draw Arena for a while and it was great to draw thw White Dwarf again. You are right about the anatomy, though I think im getting more consistant. The long neck on Arena pg#3 was intentional, I tried to show her streching out in a battle pose . The treatment is all markers with a little photoshop in the glowey areas. I also kept the pencil lines tight so I could digitaally ink them. Z- Thx as well, glad you enjoyed it.

PyrasTerran: I really liked your story for this one. An alternate world take with your characters and stuff is really interesting and zombies are appropriate for an October event. It's a very different take from you, since we've never seen horror from your side. I thought you did a nice job, but once again, I think you should work a little more on anatomy, because you have a tendency to elongate things. Page 6, where you've got speedlines working there, I think they would look much stronger as black and behind the characters. Everything else is okay with me, but keep on working at this stuff. I'm hopeful to see what you do for your next battle and I hope you pick up this option again. Drawdan: Man, it's way cool to see you back at your prime again! This is your best battle in a long time, by far. It's also totally obvious you really enjoyed making this, which is great. All of this art was terrific and your colors were really nice looking. How did you do them? Was it gray-scale and then adjusting in photo shop or was this all markers? I really am stuck on what to critique you on for this comic, because you've got a real solid form with your art style since you have so much experience working with it. I think however, you do have a few snafus and problems with anatomy sometimes. Examples being arms being a bit too long on Kim on the last page or Arena's neck/shoulder region being a bit too long on the third page. It never hurts to brush up on it when you have a chance. It was really cool seeing you pick this up right after The White Dwarf's story in 2006 and I also really liked how you incorporated this fight into Drednaut's regular universe and I'm very interested to see how you handle this all if you win this round, because it's going to be great fun seeing you progress into the next rounds. Great job.

Technically only the last three pages were rushed. The overall sketchy fast strokes deal that the whole comic has was a conscious effort.

Pyras, it looked very rushed, but I know you did 2 comics at the same time. Thw idea was cool as a halloween comic but very limited backgrounds and story. drawdan, I didnt know the backstory of white dwarf so I went back to the sdt he was in. Cool pick up from that battle. I liked that he is alive but the dual personality was lost when he died. Very entertaining and nice story. Who was the kid with the 13 jersey on? My only crit was when the wizard gets stabbed through the chest, it would have been cool to see him arc his back or contort in pain, he was a little stiff. But awesome facial expressions. I liked that you did grays with just a little of color. It was one of my favorite from you.

Uploaded. The most frustrating part is that this time it wasn't laziness that caused unsatisfactory work. Personally disappointed with this one.

A stupid ferret "emergency" and a faulty ADR session killed the extra hours I could have used to finish this the way I wanted. It was crazy enough making 2 whole different comics in 2 weeks. SO my apologies for any rushed stuff.
