Ethos: you could've been a little bolder with some of your shot choices. Everything's pretty flat and straight on. I guess that's something you'll grow out of though. I also didn't exactly like that in your story you go to some length to explain that Flint Locke is this great fighter, but Dr. Ethos just kind of sits him down with a pat on the head. Given what we knew already, it seemed like an EASY way to finish things up but maybe not the BEST way.
Flint Locke:Very, very nice work. Cool concept and I think the heavy blacks really make everything feel solid. I DO think that the extremely casual style of writing might diminish some of the punch of the thing... but overall it's quite good.
Leavin' him a robot's kinda weird, I guess. We'll see how that shakes down.

Lol yeah same here Coatl, I had an idea of a Highlander-esque Story between the two cyborgs, but I'm sure i can come up with something cool with the new Robo Ethos. But hey, I may still win.... Last second Victory!! lets do it!

Penryn> You have a nice story going on here, very fable-esque. Liked how you made the Doc a Blacksmith in days of antiquity and elaborated on his arm. I will reiterate what others have said about varying the line-widths of your inking for the sake of distinguishing figures better against environments. The quality of the pages itself also seems slightly blurred save page 2, where you could see the inks clearer than the others. It would also be great if you would vary up the choice of shots and angles- there isn't enough size variance or dynamicism in there to get the viewer more involved visually; Basically get more close-ups or even farther away shots to be able to see full on figures..So try thinking more in cinematics, like how a movie would progress, rather than storybookish if you catch my drift.
A.D.> Man, you broke me out of my stoic slump and got me cracking up hard at your dialogue. You're good at distorting semantics and writing colloquialism in a humorous way. Terrific and flowing stuff as usual dude. Your comic here is easily accessible for people who don't know what Flint Locke's been through, which is a plus. I don't have many critiques to offer, but I think throwing in an extra tone or two would have definitely helped the eye differentiate between things better, which is repeating what Willy-D said, which you already acknowledged...So I will offer this: Perhaps you can balance out the distribution of usage of blacks to your subject distinguishment advantage better. They are intermixed loosely and solidly, not always following a specific lighting schematic, and sometimes my eye doesn't know what to follow. I do dig how loose and lively the style of your characters are, though. Godspeed on Armageddon.
Thanks Guys, i'm glad you Enjoyed my side of the Scar Match. William Duel, thanks for the suggestions, I'll start experimenting with Tones and try to add more Line Variation. David your awesome, i love the comic, the pacing was a bit fast, but you wrote Ethos perfectly and i love the scar. My favorite parts of your side were the Montages, first Flint's reactions to Furry Life and then who Ethos' reaction to the Potion.
Ethos' side has a cool story, but I feel a big detachment because of the narration style.
Flint's side is hilarious..! There are some panels that are hard to decipher, like page 5.
Now that Flint's a bunny, that sparks an idea for a match....
Pen, you had a lot of cool details in this comic - I enjoyed the ship and the nice character poses. I think you're very much improved and cannot wait to see more! (and the scar you dreamed up was indeed cool)
David, I really liked some of the angles in your comic, like the scene of Ethos' smoking shoes, and I also liked your version of Ethos (wanting to do science to stuff)

and yeah..total stream of consciousness...all the dialogue was kinda written the "marvel way" I had a script then after I was finished drawing I hated all the original dialogue...and idnt have nenough time to redraw...so I just was like "I'm gonna do an 8bal of coke and then write the dialogue" and there you have it...
also the page where flint is walking down the street I noticed that and it kept pissing me off..I flirted with the idea of a thrid color...but then said fuck it...

David what you have here is interesting but it seems you did take my advice and do this in a drunken bender because it's practically stream of consciousness, which is okay in a way and it kinda flows in your usual style but I'd say this could have used a slightly slower pace, you did have a lot to sort through here. I love the ease with which you draw your backgrounds but at the same time the details can at times make them overbearing and hard to wade through, like when Flintlocke was walking down the street, I see you tried to make him stand out from the background but with that level of detail behind him it's kinda hard... Hell I think what would have worked was using a third color aside from BW. Anyways good going, now get to work on arma.

So Pen, I like the detail you put into your comics, it's cool. Though I'd say some line variation would go that extra mile like that first panel the forest/village scene, it would be kinda nice to have some differentiation or some greys maybe. I'd also say beware your proportions, not only anatomically, but in relation to other characters. Other than that, I was kinda curious because the comic left me with more questions than answers, will this sword play any further role?
My hats is off to you Pen. Though there will come the day when I fight David I don't know if I'll have the balls to make it a scar.
