Hieme—That was a really entertaining read, while the style isn't what I'm usually into, it works really well for your character. And storytelling wise, the whole thing flowed through and kept me hooked till the end. I like the cynical jokes and gags too.
Drawing-wise, I like your watercolors, but I think the black pages are a little too harsh. I get that it's dark humor, but your style would probably look better with a faded color (or colors?) in the background so the panels look like they jump out rather than smothered by the black.
You could benefit from some wacky layouts too, page 3 was kind of hard to see what's going on from first glance, with all the elements on there maybe a different arrangment would have been better. Page 7 is really good though, I think that's my favorite panel actually.
David—You're making the black and white work really well, pages 2, 3, 7, 8, 12 especially look good with the contrast and level of detail, ALSO just the way they're drawn on those pages too. Some other ones look less good compared with the good ones, but it's also a result of inconsistency in the style. Those pages I mentioned have a lot of crisp detail while some others are lacking smaller lines or hatching. This could just be because of time restraints, you did draw a lot of pages.
Your layout is really good on some pages too, the graphic design you've used here works really well. It's also good that you kept some other pages more standard, but I think you should practice making standard pages look good design wise rather than generic. It's much harder to make the plain stuff not look boring. Pages 7, 12, & 21 are probably the best examples of good design and eye-flow.
Page 7 was awesome, especially that matrix style pig tube farm. Your contrast is perfect here, and the use of white space lets your panels breathe and tells my eyes where to look. The white space in the top draws me up there first, then the black area in the middle panel pulls my eye from there to the more white area at the bottom of that panel, then the white space at the bottom gives my eyes a break and the last panels lead me into the next page.
Pig is my fav. in the tourney so I'm glad to see him likely to win!
Hieme, I would have enjoyed a more graphic close up splash page or more panels of the beheading before the "Justice was Served", a more drawn out death might have given you room for more jokes as well. Really strong work even compared to your usual solid offerings. I'd buy a graphic novel of a pig.
David, I thought this was pretty epic and imagining the pig dying in outer space in the now useless pig-mech was awesome. In some panels, Ethel became too much amorphous-blob-style, and it fucked with the read a bit. Story was crazy but it worked I thought, the void-normal tie in at the end has me interested in what would happen next.
Heimie, I'm in love, again. A fucking pig, he's just a fucking pig, genius! We don't anthromorphasize this bacon, we just let bacon be bacon! Your shifting paradigms my friend, your shifting paradigms.
Hiemie: of the comics you have done so far for this tourney I think this one was the funniest. I'm not sure what else I can say; you're keeping up consistency both in art and humor here, if not improving as you go further.
Dave: sound effects, tones, and some varying line weights would have helped your comic out a lot, as is a lot of pages are visually cluttered and confusing. Also the narrative is cluttered and confusing. Pretty much the whole thing could benefit from some more planning and a little more fit and finish. The art is kind of a hair better than yours in the last round, but still below what you had in the first round.
Heim- I can't argue, Pig has been a path of the most eerie style of simplicity.
Dave-Way to swerve it, chief. Especially with with the continuity at the end.
Hoo boy, this honestly is a tough call.
Hiemie: Out of the two entries, your quality was the best and most consistent, some things are a bit too cramped up in certain places and things get a bit too confusing here and there, but overall it was a very interesting read and your quality hasn't wavered at all. The story I thought was pretty cool if a bit disturbing. Joke sorta fell flat towards the end, but I didn't mind too much. Quality here gets the vote from me.
David: You're still pumping out pages, I'll give ya that, but the quality is a lot different from the very first round, I do like the explosions and all that, but it's looking too messy on my end, hard to really focus on anything, first round was straight up clean and simple linework, second round also had that. Too much going on here to really focus. ALSO! If you're going to use digital text, use just one font please, that text on pages 10 through 12, don't use that text ever again, I had to squint in order to read that shit!
The story was cool in terms of action, but amazingly confusing with no backstory or substance. I'm giving you a slight edge on hiemie in terms of entertainment, but what's going on? Is Ethel a monster, some sort of demi god? I don't see this in her bio, last couple of comics didn't hint at any of these powers aside from her knowing kung fu, what exactly is going on man? Props for action nonetheless, work on your stories though mang, can't just pull powers out of nowhere with this character, I like the idea of her just being Granny with kick ass Kung Fu and wits to get her by.
Overall this was a close vote, David's was surprisingly fun to read, but I think it should of been just action and shorter this time as it really looks like you're losing steam to me, more isn't always necessary. Hiemie's story was cool and creepy, the joke fell flat though, quality more than makes up for it in the end. I'm siding with hiemie by a slight point, but I think this is anybody's game right now.
