hmmm...when the hell is Flint gonna be in Jane Blonde continuity? HMMMMmmm...hhhhmmmmmmmmmmmm
I'm always very entertained by your stories. They are compact neat little boxes that open up to reveal bigger boxes...and in turn those open up infinitely into more boxes always getting larger. There are very few creators on Void who actually have strong continuity from story to story...and you keep it fresh Kent and you steadily improve and produce quality work. I would still suggest looking at Geoff Darrow, C.P. Smith, Kevin O'neill, and even Guy Davis. These are artists who work primarily in static line...perhaps you can pick up some tidbits of what to do with that kind of line from them. You don't need to reinvent the wheel. I think the hash lines are okay but because they are so similar in weight to the rest of hte illustrations they just become distracting. Anywho keep it up Kent...
and soon...very very soon Flint vs Jane Blonde!!!!
I'm going to agree with the majority in saying that you are improving by leaps and bounds. However you still got a few kinks to work out, for one thing you still have most of the action zoomed in to claustrophobic levels (shots of characters from the waist up), but towards the end it seemed like you were slowly starting to get the hang of zooming out and showing the action. Zoom out when things get tense in your panels, zoom in when things are calm.
The story I thought was a step up from your last battle, nice build up and execution. I do look forward to how you continue this story. Step up the art by zooming out, keep that story nice and fresh.
Thanks Will - I'm going to try to really up the ante on the next one
Thomas - Yeah, the end isn't really quality, and for that I apologize (but didn't want to post an apology page - I'm just gonna have to make up for it later) This was largely an experimental thing, to see how much shade I could make with inks instead of PShop. I think I'm going to push it even further in my next match v. Carlito
Monsieur Kent, your stories are always crowd pleasing and very suited for Void. I'm not sure what to say except to continue to push yourself with your details and shading.
kent, you're improving loads, keep it up. love your cover a whole lot, too. i dunno if the whole flat-colored mouth/eyes bit worked too well, pages 9-10 specifically. it seems like you just didn't finish coloring, is that the case? anyways, everything else was pretty gravy. That means it's time to start experimenting and pushing boundaries! I'd like to see more black shaded backgrounds like the top of page 5, for starters. Don't overuse them, obviously, but I liked seeing them here. I'd also like to see you do more variations in line-width and hatching. I think you'll be absolutely amazing if you start trying out some super-fine shading/hatching. Keep up the good work, looking forward to the next comic.
