Nibs- Love the inking for the comics and that you tried incorporating alot of background in there. Crosshatchers ftw!

@ angie: Yeah, I know what you mean about the blending. I probably won't do another battle with quite so much crosshatching next time--I was fighting myself the whole time not to go into 'trance' and crosshatch till there was no contrast left. That's what happened in that one black bg panel on page two, I had to put the black in to cover the screw-ups. I'm kinda thinking watercolor for my next battle, I used to use it a lot in high school, but the way I do it is very time consuming, and thus probably not appropriate for a battle...

nibbles: the story was cute and i enjoyed the artwork---the hatching was especially good.
odd13: the story is nice and you've got a cool style going on. i liked the expressions and tones a lot.
i really don't have anything to complain about in either of these! it was a good match.
Nibbles-It's good to see you back in action! I really enjoyed all the loving care and detail you gave everything in this comic, the cross hatching looked very lovely. I do think things occasionally blended together which made differentiating objects and figures from one another difficult in some areas, especially on that second page. Perhaps doing a little more with pure blacks and line variation could help? I think Jack's arms also looked a little odd, I guess it's just weird for me to see such a stylized character being interpreted more realistically, which isn't necessarily bad, it was just unexpected.
Odd13-This comic was fun, it was interesting that both you and Nibbles did very similiar comics. Your style is cute as always but it's still looking like you're not giving your comics the same attention that you should as there's a pretty noticeable gap between these comics and your stuff on DA. Really just my main suggestion for you is to spend more time on your stuff because I've seen what you can do and know you're capable of so much more.
@ Dimension: Yeah, my perspective always has some flaws in it when I work in traditional mediums. I'm usually using my knees as a desk, and there's never a ruler long enough, or enough space to make a two point perspective not look somewhat wonky. So I end up eyeballing it. When I work digitally though, I have a whole layer devoted to perspective guides and lines going way off the edges of what would normally be my artwork (my forum banner is a good example of this). As for the tail thing, I know just the panels you mean. I was getting lazy/rushed by that point, and I got a little careless. I don't like it either.
I think part of the reason the cross hatching on Jack always looked so sweet was that he was just really fun to draw, so I ended up always working on him first when my hand was less tired.

@Nibbles: cool battle, I enjoyed reading it and the expressions were nice to look at as was the character art (Jack looked pretty cool in your style). I agree about what you said on your crosshatching though...it look nice in some areas and in other areas not as good, it looked sweet on Jack though. Perspective is another thing I suggest you work on ;3 Good job, I liked the ending of the story too; I think it worked well
....this could be me being all nitpicky, but...Eighty-eight's tail looked super huge in some panels, not long but thick. :I
@odd13: A very cute and fun story as usual, I love that cover page and suggest you continue working at that same size (of the cover page) for all your pages since I think you pages are kind of small. I like your style and that "newspaperish" look to your work, it gives of this nice feel to it.
Like I said to nibbles though I think perspective is something you still need work on so keep working on that. You did a nice job too, and that last page was adorable. :3
Critique time!
Odd: I love the way you did Eight's expressions, spunkiness is a part of her personality, but I haven't had a chance to really showcase it yet, but you did and very well. Once again expressiveness is your strong point, but you need to work on your backgrounds and anatomy (doesn't everyone though?). I liked how you used the casino premise, it's actually totally different from what I expected. Good job on surprising me!
To myself: I have a crosshatching addiction. Once I start, I can't stop. Often till I've done too much or I screw up badly. I *know* some of my panels are over done. Also, I was trying out a new thicker pen on some of the lines, and much to my dismay, I found it bleeding through the paper (I drew on both sides), thankfully, the scanner didn't find it. The day I finished it, I decided to stop hiding it from my hubby (he normally dislikes these things), he smiled the whole time and called it cute--but also called some of it a bit abrupt and could've paced it out over a few more pages. Personally, I like 'abrupt' and 'condensed', most comics I read seem too light on content. However, I will take his advise on my next battle and see if I can find a happy medium.
I found my totally legal un-pirated Photoshop CS3, it had been missing since we moved here in July, but I didn't notice till September when my laptop crashed and I had to get a new computer. I used it to clean up the scans and make everything a nice even size (did anyone have to scroll any? I would really like to know).
Speaking of sizes, what are the measurements of the thumbnail gaps in pixels? I'd really like to make them smoother next time.
I really like the line work on Nibble's comic, and Eighty-eight just has a cute personality. xD
And the shading on Odd13's work is pretty cool. :) I think I leaned toward Nibble's comic more though, not really sure now. xD

On other happier news I found my Photoshop! Which I have been looking for since my laptop died in September. I'm so glad, especially since ya'know I didn't pirate it, and the bugger cost $600. I need to put it in the safe. *shifty eyes*
I'm cool with traditional mediums as well. I'm encountering a similar issue with my program due to glitching and such.

I've got quite a few challenges facing me in this battle... A) It's going to be completely traditional media including my letters because I don't have access to Photoshop anymore. B) It's going to be a smaller format than I'm used to because it's in my sketchbook, and I'm also drawing it in a horizontal format for the first time. C) It's my first battle since I've become a Mom. And D) I'm having to re-draw pages of one of my old projects at the same time because *I'm doing this battle in Secret from my husband* and I need something to show him. ^^;;;
