Yes, 6 was just a minimum, but the roulette can keep growing as long as people want to join!

News & Events / Rumble Roulette Sign Ups!
« on: Mar 21, 2018, 10:36 AM »
Are you restless and feeling the itch to battle?  But do you feel like the awkward teens at the Winter Ball where no one wants to get out on the dance floor?  Well, let us throw the first punch for you and welcome you to the Rumble Roulette!

I want to stress that this is not a tournament and not an event!  Though it will be structured like one.  What do you have to do?

You'll sign up like normal.  When sign ups close, the mods will randomize your opponent from the pool of challengers.  And then you shy kids will be thrust on the field of battle where you will meet your blind date!  Think of this as an ice breaker/alternative to just using open challenges.

Sign ups with be open for a week and a half with a minimum of 6+ fighters.  Sign ups close on Sunday April 1st.  If this proves popular we may open up the slots and increase the regularity of this method.

Parameters are a 1v1, 3 week normal battle.  Again, this is not an event, just a chance to get a normal battle with someone unexpected!

Sign ups

2.yarnwitch with Sumiko

3. Golden with Crikey Dile

4. Jaykat with Izanami

Your art is way cool.  Can't wait for your intro pages.  Would definitely like to fight you someday and play up the whole Dracula vs Frankenstein motif that my character has.

This is seriously awesome pro looking work.  I'd really love to see you make more comics.  I'd totally battle you (and lose) but I also miss your creepy bondage couple haha

Declines are generally not due to concepts and I can think of no exceptions.  Personally I'd like to see you tough it out with the previous dude.  Changing the concept won't really change what you need to do in the end but if you feel this is what you need to do in order to give it your best effort, then I'll respect that.

My hope for you was that you'd view your previous attempts as a storyboard and work off that to refine your vision.  As people we tend to fall into the sunk cost fallacy, where we think we have to sink in more time to get rewarded in the end.  If something is not working, scrap it.  Look at it with fresh eyes.  Everything you do is just a step towards getting better and pursuing your goals.  In the end, drawing more will only help you.

Fuck.  I wanna dust off Cavallero and fight some priests.

Hi. I don't fight a lot. But I've been made aware of your existence and I feel I have a public duty to preform.

Two weeks. As soon as you're ready. Let's have fun! C:

Sure.  We'd never reject a concept.  If you enjoy it then by all means go for it.  Id love to see an intro comic soon.

Design sheet is fine.  But before you're ready to submit it please make sure not to cut off the feet.  It's important that your opponent be able to get the full profile.  On to comics.

I generally enjoy these sorts of concepts.  So I'm interested.  Design sheet is good so far, hoping to see some pages soon.

Another pro tip: If a Buddhist monk shows you an amulet, it's not a souvenir for you to take.  Those dudes are fast and will chase you down.

The museum of natural history has these WEIRD rules about not touching exhibits...which really if they were so concerned theyd do a better job keeping them out of my reach...amirite?

Jobs / Commissions on Social Media!
« on: Jul 08, 2017, 07:11 AM »
Hey guys,
I'm sorry I'm not always on top of things.  I kinda didn't know this section existed.  So what I want to do is this.  I'm one of the people on staff who is primarily concerned with our social media output.  So from now on, if you put your commission info in this thread I will do my best to blast it on tumblr and facebook and get the word out.  It would also make it easier for me if you put it on a handy dandy infographic like many of you already do.  I notice the thread hasn't been used in awhile but I want to change that.  So I want to help signal boost your needs!  Just keep at it and I swear I'll try to do a better job of following along.  If you post and you haven't noticed it on social media for a few days please feel free to IM me and be like "Fuckin' Duel, where's my shit?"

Since stuff on this thread is pretty old, I'll put out newer info from this point forward.

Boo.  Everyone should just come to Boston.

spit spat, time to chat / Re: Defaults
« on: May 16, 2017, 12:15 PM »
I haven't read everybody's arguments yet but I want to say that the mods have discussed this on and off again.  It is certainly an eternal problem and ultimately I don't think there is a concrete solution to prevent all defaults ever.  Communication between artists can definitely let them cancel and plan ahead of time.  As someone with a spotty record and his own depression issues I understand.  But I think the big problem with serial defaulter is that it makes them less approachable.  Event participation is decided often enough on records and I dont think its a big surprise to say that people with better records are often chosen.  Mostly I just want to say it is a point of discussion and this is indeed a healthy discussion to have.  Just know that of our discussions a point that has been stressed is that people might get a warning beforehand if they continue that way.   No one is getting a surprise punishment.

I like it.  You have a good design sense.  It shows in Miwesa and in this character and I totally wanna battle you some day in the near future.  With names, my strategy would be to decide on a cultural heritage and look for a meaning that matches it.  (i.e. Usagi Tsukino, Japanese, literal meaning Rabbit of the Moon)  Or one of my favorites is to take names from popular myths or fiction (Cassandra, Ophelia, etc.)
