Kozispoon: I kinda want to see this in black and white just to get the full effect :)

gimme ur e-mail address and your dream might become true ;) and yeah, it was brush and ink. I love it so much.

Adam: ta! Not sure about the next installment, maybe during the void childhood tournament of 2015? ;P My gran did a great job of telling me lots of slavic folk monsters nonsense that she totally believed in (despite being a good catholic) that utterly terrified me. So I might one day do a thing on that.

Fern: lol I like how the morale seems to be thankfully even though you escaped death you might not be so lucky next time. heh I particularly liked the last panel of page 2 (cause well "lol") and the living room shot on page 3. Nice job! When is the next installment of "things that almost could have killed Fern but totally didn't"?

NIBBLES- Last Christmas, I gave you my heart, but the very next day you defaulted away ;3;

FERN- I spy the use of that ink brush and I am loving it. Seriously, that establishing panel of the little house in the woods is simply lovely. Also the picking mushrooms bit totally reminded me of Finland. errybody did that over there!
I will have to agree with puzzlething that your colors may of overtaken your delicious inks. I kinda want to see this in black and white just to get the full effect :)

Puzzlething:  It's quiet, honest, and little dark. It reminds me of being in a forest, and even if you made it up, it feels real. It's wonderful!

Ta, ta. Well, it is REAL, as much as memories can be. :)

I am totally guilty of the wonky perspective though, I think I always do it and never think much of it. NEXT TIME...

And re coloring, what would you suggest? was it more the fact that it was flats, or the color choices? I tried to go for colors to add to the atmosphere and you say it did the opposite. I think I might go with watercolors next time I am drawing something ;) or back to b&w. Who knows.

Elge: the point of this was like our own personal second round of short and sweet. I was certainly hungry for more after that challenge! Hence the page count.

Shen: I didn't hate the outdoors, I was just fearing death :P

@Nibbles: Lame. You're also the one who issued the challenge. Doubly-lame.

@Fern: I had a hard time discerning what was going on in the first 9 panels of the first page, but i instantly recognized it was a sequence from the X-Files (nerd). I think adding some visual cues like television white noise on the X-Files scenes or adjusting the HxL of the girl's panels would have helped a lot. The first and 2nd panel on page 2 are visually redundant. I feel like a lot more could have been done with that first panel while the car was still driving in that first panel.

Nibbles          -

             T_T

Fern              -

The perspective in the main lodge area thing is kinda wrong. It's weird you can see so much of the counter top in the background, and yet almot none of the mantle top, or that table-top on the right of the fireplace. A number of small things are also quite flat, like the rim of the mounted head, The door-frame, the bricks etc.

I think you really should've focused on atmosphere in your art. Have these solid, flat, saturated colours takes the focus off your moody ink lines, but there's no light or shadows in your rendering, and so nothing to strengthen or even replace the atmosphere lost when you started flatting.

If I harp on the lack of atmosphere in your art, it's only because it's so great in the writing/story. I really really liked it. The kind of disjointed way you pace the comic makes it feel so much like the way you recall a memory, but without being jarring or anything. It's hard to describe exactly why I like it so much. It's quiet, honest, and little dark. It reminds me of being in a forest, and even if you made it up, it feels real. It's wonderful!

Noooooo Nibbles, are you okay? What happened? :(

Fern, I liked your comic. I thought the punch line was hilarious.
I felt the pace was too quick, I guess I would have liked to see more of the outdoors and more backgrounds and more interaction between the characters presented.
Oddly short for a 5 weeker though!

nibbles what happen D=
Fern, little you was not a fan of the outdoors i guess haha! I think that story captured childhood beautifully, especially all the dream sequences that blended right into the reality. I like the cozy firelight colours on page four lso. not alot happened but it was a cute little snippet!

Thanks Elge, Mints!  We're doing a theme of childhood stories but with no page limit.  I've got mine written--mostly--hardest part is figuring the denouement.

It's good to see you guys took each other's challenges.

Nibbles, it's good to see you doing comics again.

Best of wishes to you two.
