Guided by the demon Mortimerr, Malec goes around collecting demons. Mortimerr gives him guidance and support and in exchange, Malec helps him gather souls (as well as being a chanel for his physical presence, as Mortimerr cannot exist within the living world away from him).
Malec can call up any of the demons he's collected as he pleases, which is quite a lot by now, though some of the lesser ones keep slipping through from the pocket hell he keeps them in. Those mostly just hang around on him, sloberring his coat up. They're just like small dumb animals. But demons. He used to capture demons through a fake Lesser Seal (a magical ring his biological father Todd Susser used) but he soon realized that his body was the actual channel. He still keeps it around symbolically.
The red scar all up his stuff is the external symptom of the devil he took from his father. It just keeps growing.
