COMIC ZINE ARTIST CALL -- Sweet Treats.

COMIC ZINE ARTIST CALL -- Sweet Treats.
« on: Sep 24, 2014, 10:16 AM »
For anyone who hasn't heard already, neens and I are putting together a comic zine, and are looking for submissions. Comics, illustrations, recipes (the theme is sweet treats, btw).

  • While this is a cute theme, it’s not intended to be all ages! sexy things are okay, though ultimately it is up to our discretion. just be tasteful!
  • Hi-res images are encouraged! 300dpi and up (600 is recommended)
  • Please make new art for this! we’d rather have fresh stuff
  • we are planning to sell printed copies, and digital copies
  • Final page count is not yet known, since this is our first project of this nature! it all depends on submissions. this will also determine pricing.
  • We are not concrete in artist royalties yet, but we do want to make sure you get a little something! right now what we have in mind is free print copies, as well as splitting money from digital copies. money from print versions would likely go back into print cost.
  • The deadline for submissions is October 15th. That's like 3 more weeks or something!

You can email submissions to nina@dapshow.com! Let us know if you have any questions. I answer a lot of them on Twitter, @DAPshow.

Also, my bad if this is the wrong forum. This didn't feel like it should be posted in jobs, though.

This looks pretty ....sweet.

Great jokes aside, if we submit a recipe will you need real pictures of the food or are we cool to draw everything?

I briefly had a whole webcomic set up about Candyland, maybe I could dust some of those concepts off...

Cool. I'll totally go for it. Probably. I really hate drawing on a huge canvas, though I'll give it a try  ^.^

I'm so excited there's interest in this!

there's been some questions, so I'll address a couple things here:

the size is 6x9" and the trim is .125", see the link below for a handy guide!
http://www.printninja.com/resources/bleed

you do not have to have an idea approved by us, though if you are unsure you are more than welcome to run it by us! chances are it will be okay as long as the theme is present in some way

this looks and sounds like a cutesy all-ages deal, but it is not intended that way. things like sexy pinups and (some) violence are okay, just keep it tasteful :9

bleed is .125 inches too, for anyone wanting to live on the edge.

So are you only making one issue or do you plan on doing a few more of these? I think I can qualify since I used to work at a bakery and I'd love to contribute to future issues
