So I'm getting my sketchblog back up & running. Nothing substantial yet, mostly just other people's characters without backgrounds. but the good stuff'll come soon. At some point. Just watch.

pardon the url watermark stuff. these last two characters i haven't posted up yet. they're from a concept of mine. jaded reporter & his new assistant:

more stuff coming soon.

So you're a student of Lysol now?

Did you color that first image in crayon? If not you should really darken those blacks and give the cape some shading. The only other thing to watch out for is you have an awful lot of quarter view images.

But he still needs to cel-shade and stroke the hell out of everything!

Looks good, sketches are sketches. Backgrounds/full scenes would be nice though.

quarter views are a bad default thing I gotta get over. if these were comics or the least bit important, they wouldn't all be the same like that.

the harlock cape was colored pencil i had left out after doing the mr. freedom. i would have tried to adjust the levels more, but it brought up a lot of other sketch lines & shit that made the rest of the drawing quite nasty. where it's at is the happy medium from what it was. the better bet would've been to clean it up manually & rescan to adjust.

thanks you two. and lysol's a blockhead.

No worries, if you're just looking to do some static character shots there's only so much you can do.

You draw the cutest little noses. So dainty, much like yourself.

I wish Storm was like that in the comics!
Your girls are all very hot, I specially like the blue girl, and chun-li is also awesome.

Your harlock is very GAR. But yeah, while I like the look of the colors, they could be a bit more fully pencilled, you know, witout white spots, but it does have a certain charm like this.

Indded, I've only seen you draw digitally but this is all very cool.

thanks z. i'm not really a color pencil guy, but i've been doing roughs with blue lead lately. and then i started doing that mr. freedom & it didn't look patriotic enough with only the blue haha then i had the red left out when i started working on that harlock. don't know how much more of it i'll be doing in the future. though i kind of like the look in like the last one where the blues scanned pretty ok. maybe not as much as on the girl, but closer to the guy. maybe do a comic like that.

will, remember when you had your character in the incubator & you at one point cited me as drawing digitally? i responded in a message (WHICH YOU SEEMED TO JUST IGNORE, FO') where at one point i told you i haven't drawn anything digitally in like 2 years due to broken tablets. so thanks, but i'm pretty sure everything you've seen of mine was drawn the old fashioned way.

...Really?  I didn't ignore it but come on, I barely remember what I ate yesterday and you expect me to remember a post from months ago?  I'll be sure to update my little black book with everyone's profiles.

joked about doing a sketch-a-day blog again on my twitter. said i could shoot to not only go the whole year, but the whole decade. didn't think people were going to take me seriously, but i guess i'm kind of locked into it now. so far:

random chick in the cold, jack burton from big trouble in little china, colby from my laundromat story, lo pan, also from big trouble in little china, brandon graham's sexica, & the bunk, from the wire. the color scheme is just to fit my blog. i realize there's not a lot of variation in these as of yet, these were all super quick or drawn without a lot of thought. i hope to get better with that as i keep going. the one i have brewing for today is a building so that should help. eventually i want to do one & done pages.

When is the rest of our battle going to be posted? ; 3;

I love your character designs, they are inspiring to me.  They look very natural and modern, and have a lot of flair/charm to them.

I wish Storm was like that in the comics!
Oh-ho, she waaaaas. Briefly, in the (early?) 90's, I think. I'm not a big x-men fan, but I have some old ragbooks kicking around, somewhere...
Also, commenting on comments made back in october is all the rage. Whoops!

I'm totally digging the red/pink, black/grey/white colorscheme, actually. Your noses are still adorable and dainty, as Red was so kind to point out.
You've done an excellent job expressing how puffy cold girl's jacket is, and I appreciate that. You still doing this sketch-a-day shindig?

Yeah Storm was a bitchy punk back in the eighties actually.  She kept trying to take control of the team (competing with cyclops) then shit changed and she became mature and graceful in the 90s.   It was all Claremont's fault.

would you silly bitches stop spending so much time talking about storm? this thread's about ME!

thanks j. & sirius! and sorry, fowlie. I kept trying to email you what I had, but it kept bouncing back. I didn't post anything yet as I decided to add a bit more to it after what I had planned initially, including a sequence with tentacles unwinding all neat & proper like. but between work, finishing a project I've been working on with a friend, & this sketch thing I've been doing, I haven't been able to finish it up, BUT I WILL. I SWEAR IT! donchuworry!

still doing the sketch-a-day thing. here are some more highlights:

the 12th & the 14th's were both characters I've been kicking around for possibly using on void, & while I was thinking about SDT, I feel it's probably best to sit this one out. but be on the look out maybe for future use. and of course there's a whitey action & a zorg in there too. the other characters are from original projects. the upside down one is one i'm developing with a friend.
And this week I started to reread the novel Snow Crash so I started sketching up people from that. I'll move onto scenes eventually but for right now:

thanks dude.
i was batting around the idea of entering but it's kinda best that i didn't at the moment. he was just something i had brewing for a while & sdt seemed like it might've been a good way to kind of throw him into the mix. didn't know you had one of your own with that same thing going on. i really like the idea of bringing back the cop all scarred & scorn. didn't quite have a reason for my guy's appearance other than it's gotta be pretty hard to be homeless in void city of all places. at any rate, i'll be looking forward to your guy's battles in the coming weeks. good luck!

Oh my gosh the Snow Crash ones are PERFECT! Excellent costume design; they really fit the tone of the book.

Why are you sticking to the same color scheme for all of these?

thanks guys!

figured if anyone on here read snow crash it'd be you, evan. glad you dig them, thanks very much! don't know if they were necessarily specified, but in that last post you've got an Uncle Enzo, Vitaly Chernobyl, & Juanita Marquez at the end there too. It felt a little strange because he doesn't really specify them having too outrageous a look, so I kinda winged it with them. As for the color scheme, i'm primarily posting these on my blog, & the limited palette's just meant to kinda match what I've got going there.

(sincerely) thanks for the boot in the ass, jho!! i know i know i know. i got too caught up in the design & not enough in the presentation. and when I wasn't doing a design, I still defaulted to that angle. I really gotta get out of the habit of doing that.

i had to rush out today's sketch as I'm away from home & don't know when I'd get a chance to scan. I'd post it here if it was any good but it's not. But I did accomplish a full month of posted sketches. If I do shoot for the decade, that's 1 down another 119 to go.
