And here I shall post my latest results at practicing Illustration.

Pencils

This guy in similar in concept to a transformer, but no transforming. I guess you could say he's a primative transformer. Those rockets on his back are put in his staff. They don't shoot out, though. Just explode on impact. I don't think he talks either.

ahhh he's really cool! The thing is with line art, to make it interesting is to vary up the widths of your lines. So what you have right now is a great starting point, but I'd go back in and add a lot more. Easiest thing is to pick a light source, then thicken up the lines on the shadow side, while keeping the shapes of the objects in mind. I think you've got a good sense of that so far though, but I'll give an example if you'd like. Finish it up and it will indeed be epic!

If you've got a good example, fire away. I'm always looking to improve. As for finishing this, school is kicking my ass, and I want to get my character Zedan finished and submitted. Thanks for the tip.

I've got other penciled drawings that have yet to be inked. I'll be sure to post then here when I have time.

I totally had an example to link to you, but I forgot what is was ahahaha, so I drew you an amazing kitty wearing a dress drawing instead.

It's just adding dimension and shape to your drawing in a pretty simple way.

I'm going to try to post more stuff in here starting this winter, mainly realism studies to improve my faces and anatomy.

Here's a fully completed comic-style book cover I did in one of my classes.

I'm slowly coming back from my hiatus here. Let's start with the first draft lines for my character Zedan.

I've also done soe work on his official bio for the site, seeing as how I'm working on a new storyline for him.

BIO:
Height: 5’7”
Weight: 180 lbs
Age: Physical state equaling the prime of youth.
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

WHO IS ZEDAN DROMER?

Zedan is a native of the Dreamlands, a realm that is as close to pure chaos as the multiverse likes to get. He was banished by the evil deity Gon’kra to the physical world, namely VOID City. As far as he knows, Zedan is stuck here for the foreseeable future. He has a basic understanding of how human behavior works, but knows almost nothing about our world or cultures, like an alien visiting earth.

Zedan is a traveling man, never staying in one place for too long, and never making ties to bind him down. He’s a survivor, and is willing to do almost anything the situation calls for, but won’t knowingly sacrifice children or the innocent, nor will he kill those who don’t justly deserve it. Bloody vengeance is not out of the question. He is willing to fight for another’s cause, and if the stakes are high enough, he might be able to bend his standards to achieve success. He is not above stealing and deceit to get what he needs.

On the surface, Zedan is sarcastic, brooding, and very focused. He’s not afraid to talk to people, in fact he loves highly populated places and the feel of life they exude, but is very reluctant to open up to people and make true friends. At heart, he’s an Instigator, forcing change for what he sees to be the better as a lone agent. He believes in the rights of the individual to live and survive. He does not take things lying down, but accepts that there are things that he does not understand and might not be able to change. Not that he’ll give up without trying. He also believes that people need to speak what is on their mind, as it is the only way to truly communicate.

When is comes to the Bizarre population of VOID City, Zedan feels more comfortable than he'd like to admit. There are even more strange beings and species back where he comes from. He does not discriminate by appearance, but judges by character.

Zedan is observant, intelligent (not ignorant or dull), and analyzes and plans his actions in advance, but can’t always judge every element of a situation. He’s a very linear strategist when it comes down to it, which might be his biggest weakness. He makes up for it with his willful nature and natural discipline. Zedan's emotions run hotter than normal people, and his actions reflect that.

He lives by his own code of frontier justice, dealing it our where he sees fit.

Zedan has an intense fear of the dark, especially subterranean environments. He won’t go to sleep without setting personal defenses and traps, partly from a real fear of attack and partly due to paranoia. He’s also creeped out by cats.

NOTE: Zedan is fascinated by the real world and all it's details. It's not uncommon for him to spend hours watching something as small as a fly.

WHAT CAN HE DO?

Zedan has a unique ability in all the Dreamlands: a connection to the Creation Force. This allows for manipulation of the very fabric of the world around him when his abilities are at full capacity, but he can generate effects from things he and other people have created (namely art) much easier. This power has an effective range of about 25 feet.

All of the abilities that Zedan can use due to his connection with the Creation Force are limited by the physical world to a great extent. He currently only has the ability to control his tattoos and augmentation seals.

--------------------
- TATTOOS - This is Zedan’s favorite ability, and he uses on an everyday basis. He can bring his tattoos to life and control them completely. Each tattoo is limited by its shape and contextual association (example: a chain and hook tattoo can’t be brought out as a mini-gun). Each tattoo can only be used once, and attack and defense related tattoos can only take a few powerful hits before shattering. He can also activate other people’s tattoos, which they control. THE ONLY EXCEPTION are Zedan's wrist tattoos that generate his blades (see design sheet).
IMPORTANT: Zedan can use tattoos to augment his base physical capabilities, giving himself increased speed, strength, and reflexes for about 30 seconds.

- “MAGIC” - Zedan can boost the magical power of others with his tattoo seals, but commands no actual magical ability himself.
--------------------

Zedan can also enter people’s dreams, but only if they are asleep or fall asleep (unconsciousness doesn't count). Here, he can unlock his true power, which is to manipulate the dreamscape itself using the Creation Force. The drawback to this is that he is extremely unskilled in the use of this power. In his dreams, Zedan is 10x more powerful.
IMPORTANT: In this state, Zedan can move between the dreams of sleeping people, but cannot return to the Dreamlands.

Due to his heritage as a Dreamlander, Zedan moves much quicker and smoother that normal humans, and he often doesn’t have to think about where to land and the route he needs to while running and jumping. His reflexes are quicker, but not near a superhuman level (more like a professional athletes). He knows almost nothing about fighting, but relies on a type of natural instinct, like an animal.

His physical strength is not very powerful. Zedan makes use of kicks and Muay Tai like attacks (fists, feet, elbows, knees) augmented by his tattoos to fight if he has too, as well as using his long coat to hide attacks. He prefers to fight at mid-range.

When Zedan get's too angry, he begins to slip into Nightmare Mode. This is a result of the [REDACTED]. Dark crystals start to encase his body, forming armor, and he gains full control over his natural reality warping abilities. He also becomes pure evil for the duration of the state.

I did this as part of an ongoing themed competition with BrainBaists. He's still doing art, and you can find his stuff here: http://cargocollective.com/timothymetcalf

Anyway, here's new art.

These are from late April 2012. I was trying out a more realistic style from reference photos.

A headshot of Sam Worthington.

And another headshot of Sam Worthington as one of the main characters from my upcoming webcomic SUNCHILD.

Yeah, yeah, I know. I need to lay off the hatching.

I actually think it works better here than usual. Feels more appropriate in that realistic style.

Thanks LeFred. I'll keep that in mind. It's one of these things I picked up in my style since I never colored anything for a long time. I was trying to add volume to the lined drawings, but color would have done a better job.

Either way, thanks!

UGH, it's been a while since I drew. So I'll begin a sketchdump.

Here's a sketch for a digital painting I have yet to get around to.

Some basic inking practice.

An anatomy practice turned character creation. I'm still trying to figure out what this guy's deal is.

More inking practice from a random shape. I think it's some sort of old god statue...

These next two are characters from Scott Sigler's novel NOCTURNAL

SLY (lizard man thing)

Thats nice! It looks more clean and professional than the previous drawings. That might be down to the camera, but I don't really think it is.

It's just my Mac book's camera. But yes, I did try to make the inking on it feel more original than just tracing it. I'll post an update once I scan it and color it.

I was tired of always drawing things realistic and in proportion, so this just popped out.

Also the first piece of art I've done in a long time that I really like.
