Disclaimer: The nazi adjacent imagery adopted into the character is meant to be subversive and frankly experimental at the time of its creation in the late 'aughts. As times change and problematic ideals sprang forth the following decade during 2016 and on - the topic that these comics ruminate on has appropriately gone off the table.

That said "Mars" is about an escaped youth that escaped the clutches of Time Nazis and supposedly fights them to this very day. Their symbol [which you will see in old comics] is a Manji, an older more venerable symbol than its militarized icon of hate and bigotry. The character is and always will be an agent AGAINST such terrible regimes.
