Ooh can I ask some things?

- Do you actually have to kill your opponent's character in the comic in a death match?

- Can scars in a scar match be a psychological scar? As in, can you change your opponent character's personality? Or do all changes have to be physical?

re: Death Matches
The only condition is that your opponent must die in the comic. You're free to be creative in how it happens, even if it means your fighter doesn't actually kill the opponent.

re: Scar Matches
Copied from the User Guide: "These matches give you the opportunity to change your opponent's design. The loser of a scar match must receive a "scar" from their opponent, as described in the winning comic. The winner of scar matches escape unaltered. The only rule is that your opponent must be depicted receiving a scar in your comic."

A psychological scar on its own merits no design alterations, so I don't think that would fly. You could inflict a physical scar with the implications of psychological damage, but there is no rule that strictly enforces artists to change how a character is written.

Ah, but what if the scar was to make the character homeless, begging for food and covered in raggity clothes? that's a change to the character design.

Are they like stricken with a poverty curse? Something they can't write their way out of? I believe that's what matters.

You got a point there.

Scars are tricky, since your opponent can write around bigger things. The most common fix for things like missing limbs are mechanical prosthetics. Very few characters on the site haven't replaced their missing limbs. For THE BEAST, I gave him regenerating tentacles to replace his missing arm and worked his broken back into a character development arc that gave him back his rational mind and turned him into a cyborg.

So yeah, scars are a fantastic way for you to have some fun and to possible push your opponent to go in a new direction with the character they had never thought of.

No matter what, you need to give them some sort of physical scar to go with the rest so there is something to update on the design sheet. For example Angie received a psychological scar in Suit vs Angela Rudell but we still made sure she received a physical one to go with it.

Please don't comment on battles that you want a comic canceled! I don't always read battle comments until the battle is due to go up or I've been informed there's drama that needs to be cleaned up, so there is always the risk I won't see it and you'll get a double default. In order to cancel a battle please have both parties contact either me, Wei, Bobo, or Red (you both must contact the same person obviously) to let us know you want to cancel.

There are just a few questions I have about void since I'm actually still really new here,
do they call things like the master of disaster tournament by that name?
If I ask is it okay to have other people's characters show up in the background of scenes instead of generic void denizens?
Is it okay to use different styles for different characters?
you insensitive bitch. some people can't even GET boners.

Don't really understand the first question.

Yes, cameo who you want. Everyone loves fanart.

Yes, that's fine. Experiment as much as you like on Void, that's what we're here for.

I remember from reading back in like 2008 or something (probably earlier) sometimes the characters were aware that it was a tournament and sometimes it was random. Is it okay to call things like the master of disaster tournament by their names in comics? Because I wanted to use it in a characters intro, thanks for the quick response by the way!

Yeah that's fine. People in tournaments aren't obligated to make the character aware in the tournament.

You submit a new character and it gets approved. Your into comic goes up for voting. Do you have to wait until that time is up to challenge someone? Or can you go round chalenging people straight away?

...last time I submitted a character the intro didn't go up for voting, so forgive my ignorance :P

You should totally be good for that - Ignatius Weaver's creation date is the 31st of December and he was in a battle on the 4th of January (vs Raygun).  With the one week voting time there's definitely some overlap there.

Is it okay for a character to have a power or second form but not show it until later in a beyond battle? If its added to the character sheet

Howdy!

I haven't been active here in years. My old handle was Kaelin. I made a new account because I go by a new handle now.

My question! It's been five years. A lot has changed. The characters I once used on void have changed tremendously and I don't want the old iterations of them confused with the new. Is it possible to resubmit them on the new account and leave the old iterations retired? I understand if it's not preferable, I mean I can see how it would muddy things up and I'll be happy to accept no for an answer, but it doesn't hurt to ask!

it isn't unheard of for this to happen...more common than you might think and normally done without any real hooharrah...characters change...most artists simply change bio and design sheet and move forward....I think Rtv! for example re-designed his main character at least 4 or 5 times over the years as I recall...not even including scars and such

...I would suggest that if a division or reboot point is important to you.... that you simply retain the same account....change the design sheet and bio for each character and add a small notation in the bio re: all comics before such and such a date are representive of older versions of the character....or what have you

past your own personal preferences a division isn't even neccesary...people will see your design sheet and go from that ....anyone reading the old comics should be at least swift enough to read dates and make the proper asumption even without some notation in your bio....and any comments proving somthing contrary will allow us to identify and tag the more stupid members and then chemically sterilize them before placing them back into the wild.....most humane thing to do really

your proposed course of action just causes too much potential for confusion and I for one cannot get behind the idea of people just starting up new accounts for new versions of the same character....not a precedent I would want set

you can also change how your account name appears on the site as Kent might possibly be qualified to tell you

So if I hadn't talk to Kent about it beforehand, how was I supposed to know who was challenging me with which characters?

Wow, that is a big oversight on my part when I changed how titles work on the site. Bug Kevin on chat and he'll get it fixed pretty quick, I'm sure.

Hello, I tried looking around the User Guides and FAQs and these were some questions I couldn't find answers to:

-About the profile avatars: I haven't gotten any error messages, but it still is not showing up from what I can tell. What are the dimensions, and where should I upload the images to link to them in the Edit Profile settings? Also what is the "gallery" for avatars?

-Is there any way we could specify sorts of explicit material we really don't want to happen? Like for example, I am fine with gore, scars, violence, etc but I saw it mentioned and I am uh, very averse to the idea that people can rape my characters. Should that be part of my bio, should I say that when I discuss with potential matches, or do I have to tough it?

-What is the rule on characters who are initially ghosts, if their full abilities are outlined on a character sheet? Like obviously in a death match their spirit is gone, but is that too complicated? Should they just be alive?

Thank you!
