Enter the Void with Emma Rios

Emma Rios is an artist who has agreed to an interview as well.  She was noticed by Warren Ellis on Flickr, and soon after made her debut with the Strange miniseries by Marvel.  She continues to work on various projects over at Marvel Comics including a few Spiderman stories and the current Cloak and Dagger miniseries.  I felt she was appropriate for an interview since she's living the dream that people on here hope to see.  Here's some of her art:

So this'll be the drill from now on, who's got any questions they'd like me to include in the interview?

Questions: how often do yous use photographic references for your figures? are there times when you feel that you don't need a reference for figures?

Do you have any solo-projects that you've done already, or plan to work on in the future?

That computer head guy is pretty rad.

Anyway, my question would be along the lines of this:

"What is your process for making a comic page?"

Feel free to word that however you want to make it more interesting, Will.

1) She's awesome
2) Fantastic questions so far
and
3) Will, I hope you've got a few questions of your own, since the community may not ask many.  Where you from, how long have you been doing this?  That type of stuff.

Yup I've been preparing my own.  Originally I was simply going to do my own thing, but I thought it better to open the questions up so everyone could ask something.  So the interviews are a mix of my own questions with what everyone else has been asking.

You might ask if she has any "pet theories" about cartooning or storytelling that she'd like to talk about.  I know I have mine, as I'm sure most cartoonists do, and I'd love to hear what hers are.

I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean by "pet theories".  Could you elaborate a little?  Do you mean some sort of template for storytelling?

I mean any little philosophies or ideas that you've developed about the best way to do comics, what works and what doesn't, etc.  Like, for instance, I can go on and on about the range of styles that's most appropriate for comics, and why those styles work, and why styles outside that range don't work so well.  It IS a vague question, but that's kinda the point -- just to see if she  has any interesting ideas about the process that she'd like to share.
