Well I have been kicking this can down the road all week cause I wasn't really sure what to write about more indepth. Mainly cause I have very little to crit cause I didn't enter this toruny myself. Lol but i wanted to write a bit more cause this battle is the one that I have have read multiple times now.
Knomer: that was a great read. I really dig your figure drawing, and little things like the folds in the pants and such. The whole last page was excellent, using the trumpet to blow his head off was not only drawn perfectly, it flowed into such a nice ending statement on the grave stone. Great set up. Excellent ending that had me laughing. Chalk me up to the number of people sad this match up was in round one.
Sheldon: lol 11 pages in record time... I'll be honest the beginning took a few reads, but time is a bitch when you are in a speed match doing 11 pages. And to behonest you had all the info needed in there I just wasn't familiar enough with all the characters in the death match pre reading your story. Once I connected girl and zombie dog... Brilliant. Also great fore site in making the pages with the person you are up against the most polished, a sign of a void OG. I really loved the toaster set up, the fork missing and the impending face meeting construction materials. Perfect. I told neens this and I'll tell you I want you and her to fight, I would love to see the fall out between you two after you wreck her apartment...
Great fight you two my favorite of this round for sure

KNOMER - A lot of the blank space was really noticeable--I think a little more background would really look good with your style. Also, a lot of it was really faint and sketchy. That said, WOW your stuff looks great. My favorite pages are the first and last, so you started and ended strong. Kudos!
SHELDON - I liked the fluidity of you figures here--even the really sketchy ones were pretty expressive. Page 6 and 7 are probably my favorites--that first hallway panel is really well done, and the BOOM on 7 is nicely designed. I like your use of blacks throughout. Make more comics for us!

For all the SDTs in murderfest, i really like how everyone tried to make the effort to make a decent ending, even if it's a cliffhanger of some sort.
I am also rating all of this not knowing who the hell these characters are. Both of you did an excellent job introducing them to me and immediately understanding the situation.
Knomer: I flipped when I saw the last page--THAT WAS AWESOME I can see you weren't completely done with page three and four, good lucky next time. I feel like some of the panels would have benefitted with something in the background (although some left blank gave a good dramatic feel to it). I think you inked this by hand, but there are some black areas which look like it was done on the computer. Especially page two panel six, eight, and nine. It would have been nice to have chosen a thinner brush/pen for the shading, because the thick lines take out from the subject behind or next to it. Especially the last panel on page two, where the most prominent thing is the explosion and the foreground character blends in on the side of the panel.
Sheldon: Okay I really dig the pen work on some of these pages, and I also assume some pages weren't complete because they don't look as epic as other pages. Not quite sure what the hell happened on page nine though. Even though some of the pages are amazing, I can still see some pencil work in the back that you didn't erase properly. Sorry, I don't know what else to say I really liked it ^_^;

That was a great read... and exactly why I am kicking myself for not being able to enter this tourney. Both of you did a great job and I was very into both stories though the whole ride. I loved it! I want to see more from both of you! I'll pick through this in a bit to give a better crit just wanted to let you know it was massively entertaining.

Knomer: Puerto Ricans don't say Pinche, only Mexicans do. RIGHT GALVO??
Sheldon: I didn't know it was Girl and Dog at first, had to reread it to realize that whole set up.
You guys rocked and set an awesome tone for this SDT. I love you both

Wow, just wow. Ok then...
Sheldon: Damn dude. 11 pages? Haha definitely didn't get the memo. I will agree that a shorter comic with less of the incomplete pages might have been better, as the middle did seem to be a stumbling point, but then it seems you got the pace back, and belted out a great ending. I loved the intro page, the details were ridiculous. I also like that you set the toaster up in the beginning, and it came full circle in the end. I think Charlie needs to ditch Zeus, and start hanging out with that toaster. These comics were both great, but I think the little details you had on the completed pages win out here. Great to see you back and doing comics again, man.
Knomer - Wow dude, you level up every time I see new work from you. I thought this comic we very clear and looked great. Some of the panels could have benefited from some background, as there was a lot of white space going on, but at the same time it doesn't really take away from what IS there at all. I love your facial expressions, especially when Charlie pulls the Explorer out of his mouth.... hilarious. The last page too.... OMG, I was dying. I remember I tried to do a similar effect to Galvo back in the first Battle Royale.... and failed MISERABLY compared to this one. Well played, sir, well played!!!

Just popping in after gushing about it on twitter (its the right thing to do). This is probably one of the best battles I've seen on the site for a long while now, I really like both of your work and you both delivered. Pretty rad stuff - and like I said on twitter I love pages 6 onwards of yours Sheldon. Absolutely dig the panel layouts and the heavier black details at parts.

sheldon didn't get the memo that said it was a 5 page minimum.
but how the fuck can we possible disqualify him for that- i had tears in my eyes from the both of you cunts.
ya'll made me feel like i was 20 again.
old school void flava.

It's called the "Knome Round 1 Tourney Curse", Round 1 I'm always pit against someone amazing that keeps me from moving on to round 2. It's a thing.
Chico was done justice, the minuscule details like the case lock and the fingering. The sfx too, one can say that I came out the bigger winner out of this.

Knomer: That last panel just killed me XD I definitely would have liked a few more backgrounds and cleanup in there, but the action was fun and you just brought back everything I loved about VOID when I first joined. There's just this perfect blend of out-of-the-box, wacky creativity and straight-up old-school violence.
Sheldon: Damn, dude! I seriously just kept checking out that first page like it was Van Gogh. So much detail, right down to the pubes on the soap and the little skeleton dangling off the cold knob. I already know the owner of that shower, and the comic hasn't even really started yet. That kind of detail is exactly what I need to practice and we all need to learn.
Oh, and then you get to the second page and things start getting progressively weaker until the details suddenly resurface on page 6. I'm going to ding you for that, especially since this was supposed to be closer to a five-page comic and you more than doubled that. I would have much rather read 5 pages of glorious detail than have the quality jump around and fall off like that. That said, I love that you still get a feel of personality in even the sketchiest of drawings. And the humor in the whole thing was beautiful. There were a few parts that I had to read twice to understand what happened (most notably the very end, which I completely mis-read the first time as another explosion caused by Chico Colon), so watch out for that. I might just be stupid, but then again that's your target audience most of the time, so help us dummies out and make important plot points just a little bit clearer.
Awesome to see both of you around again, even if it's just for this tourney! Too bad one of you has to die.
