Title: Voider Webcomics
Post by: William_Duel on Feb 07, 2013, 10:03 PM
I realize that a lot of people go into and start their own webcomics so I thought, why not have a thread that gives them a shout out so people can check them out?  I'll start but if you know any Voiders past or present who have webcomics let's stick 'em in here and give them some love.
For easy access, I will modify the front page:

This may be a good chance to ask about what people believe to be good sites to host online webcomics.
From my own research it seems your own wordpress site with comicpress is the best but it would require a bit of website building.
Any input?

Let's not forget http://bff.nematodeinspace.com/ (http://bff.nematodeinspace.com/)Best Friends Forever, which is being drawn by void's own mickequ/mickey!

I've seen people use Smackjeeves--like mynameismad, who hosts her comic http://sakana.smackjeeves.com/comics/1032298/001/ (http://sakana.smackjeeves.com/comics/1032298/001/) Sakana on Smackjeeves. She got picked up by MangaMagazine later, which is a subcribe-to-read hosting site which invites comic artists with already established comics to host their work on the site.

When I had webcomics I used www.drunkduck.com (http://www.drunkduck.com) It was a decent site, easy to use. My old webcomics are still up, but hopefully I can restart them at a new site. I think some people use wordpress sites, but I'm not sure.

How does one go about getting a site--for example, squid, what did you do to get your moonmarauders site? I don't know what all is involved, but am very interested.

it's old but you can see my gradual improvement as it goes on. (http://in-your-head.smackjeeves.com/comics/794684/chapter-01-01/)
I haven't updated this in a year now, but I'll eventually get round to it. I feel bad putting it on a cliffhanger for so long.

Years and years ago I did a webcomic at http://nighthawkdayhawk.comicgenesis.com (http://nighthawkdayhawk.comicgenesis.com), and fewer years ago I did another one at http://starserpent.smackjeeves.com (http://starserpent.smackjeeves.com), though neither is really a good representation of what I do anymore, especially since I focus on folks of the more humanly persuasion nowadays.  They still have a special place in my heart though.
I do have another informal comic going too but it doesn't have a site yet.
Actually KJV is a re-tooled version of a character from the first comic too, but oh so different now from back then.

So this has been the main focus of my entire summer and probably for the rest of it also:

Kolby's Unknown (http://foldedpaperstudios.com)

I have been working on it in collaboration with my Dad and brother and have been a good learning experience for me. Though the update is roughly about once a week by this point I hope to have it the current chapter finished by summer's end (ie before school starts.)

Anyways, introductions and one comic is up: http://lifelessonscomic.tumblr.com/

Post by: Angie on Oct 19, 2013, 08:21 PM
Why yes, we do.

http://angelarudell.entervoid.com/

People just have to tell us if they want their web comic on the site and have to provide us with some pages to get it set up.

Yeah... haven't been on here for a while. I've been busy and for some reason on Firefox this site messes up. Fortunately I just remembered that I also have Safari that I rarely ever use.

Anyways, I have a fantasy webcomic with Raleigh, Edgar & Alister featured here- http://oldbonescomic.blogspot.com/. It updates on Mondays and Fridays.

I don't know you guys, I think it might just be an illusion.
There's only Angie's comic, which I mean, how do I even access it from the site? and I never even heard anything back from my proposal. The evidence for the possibility of webcomics on Void is not overwhelming.
Title: Re: Voider Webcomics
Post by: Angie on Oct 20, 2013, 08:06 AM
You're preaching to the choir! I've brought up the lack of ease of use and advertisement for the feature a few times, and the general consensus is that's coming in 6.0, so it is being worked on. I want to see it succeed because the thing that killed web comics on the site last time was lack of advertising and no one had any idea how to submit one.

As to why your comic was never approved, I have no idea who you contacted, but I see it listed on our topic about it on the mod boards and apparently whoever you originally contacted never replied to you? I see that you have pages so the person you contacted should have set your comic up. If you still want to do it, I can do it for you right now.

It's a bit much to assume the entire feature will fail just because of one bad experience. I'm in the same camp as you as I actually want it to be easy for people to submit a comic and for the feature to actually be advertised.

Post by: William_Duel on Oct 20, 2013, 08:27 AM
We are still very much taking babysteps as far as the webcomics feature goes.  Angie`s webcomics was always the beta and as far as structure it works.  Obviously there are still kinks to work out but as long as we are still willing to talk about it we'll get it worked out.  a few other entries were approved but I don't know what happened along the way.

I still have every intention of making a comic, I just have to wait until my movie is finished and then I'll really start roughing it out

I actually REALLY want to submit the webcomic I'm working on.  I just want to get alot more pages going before I try that, though (Only have seven so far).  With college ending for a month or so I should be able to produce more pages and get a good start on this webcomic.

Here's what I've got so far:

Yeah I've put insane amounts of time and thought into this haha.  I was working towards being a tattoo artist earlier this year, but I really don't think its my calling so I'm buckling down and working on comics.   I feel way more confident and skilled than I used to be.  I feel like I can tell a good story now and make sequential art work. :>

My writer and I started working together again last spring on a (luckily) failed pitch which is why I sorta ghosted on you guys, and then we spent the summer developing this guy: http://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/worldbreakers/list?title_no=9336 (http://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/worldbreakers/list?title_no=9336), which updates every week! It's probably my favorite thing I've worked on, and it seems to be coming along pretty well!

Hopefully once I figure out time-management a little better I can get back into some Challenges here! I miss my ladies!

EDIT: Sidenote-- is anyone else on LINE Webtoon? It's a really great site for any indie webcomic artist, imo

My comic where my character Raven (and future Void character Ran) came from

Raven's Void version is way into the future of this comic so I guess you can say that this is sort of her origin story. I purposely left it out in her bio because it is very long and complicated -also obviously took place in another world:
